  1. Re: Pulp Hero, after looking it over I picked it up Thursday around 1. (Joe mentioned in the morning game that DoJ only had a few boxes, so if we wanted a copy to hurry). Had the chance to start looking at it, and its quite impressive. Mostly I have been going through the GM section in the back, it has some great ideas, and I can picture every paragraph being used in a game. Once I finish that, I will go back to the beginning and start to read through the earlier chapters of the book. The artwork I have seen so far has been nice. I like using Pulp Covers for the chapter breaks.
  2. Re: Champions miniatures Wow, that is quite a figure. Very nicely done.
  3. Re: Warhammer 40K Space Marine Power Armour What about Terminator armor.
  4. Re: A Thread for Random Musings Why is it the last 2 hours of the workday before the weekend are longer than the first six hours?
  5. Re: Batman VS Captain America! yeah right... In ancient Egypt, Teth Adam was granted the powers of Shazam, so his powers mirror those of the Egyptian gods. In the current time line he fought along side the original Hawkman and Hawkgirl (the Egyptian prince and princess who found the Nth metal and started the line of reincarnations) and Nabu (Dr. Fate). This is covered in JSA Savage Times TPB. Currently Black Adam has taken over Khandaq again because a military dictator was in charge of the country and was torturing and abusing the population. The flag of Khandaq has three triangles, representing Black Adam, his wife and his son. He was appaled that the JSA would not help take out a brutal dictator and free his people, so he got a group together, they killed Kobra and then freed his land. (JSA Black Reign TPB). He felt Atomsmasher was a kindred spirit, so began to see him as a brother. The current run of JSA has really expanded Black Adam. I like what they have done with him, he has become a much more sympathetic villain. He is one of my favorite characters in the DCU currently.
  6. Re: Be like unto a god True, but it would remove the problem of where do the villains come from. Just because one excels at a sport does make him a 'good' person. edit: Shoot, beat by McCoy, that will teach me to read the entire thread first. edit 2: Should add that this is an excellent idea, I really like this origin and concept story.
  7. Re: pulp hero over opinions? I like the cover art, very nice and conveys the feel and a lot of elements of pulp stories. The lettering in the title is a bit goofy to me, but its okay. Shooting the dame doesn't both me so much, as Curufea said its not terribly uncommon in the noir stories for women to get shot.
  8. Re: Atmosphere I think the dome is the way to go. Likely the dome would be sectioned off into sectors so that if a hole appeared in one, it could be sealed off from the rest of the city. A super-tech dome could even be self healing. Also it would likely have some sort of point defense to protect it from incoming weapons or meteorites. Also, I have the feeling that a dome would be feel more gritty, which would be appropriate for Hudson city. As Cancer said, Pluto is too far from the sun and too small to make terraforming anything but the rubberiest science.
  9. Re: New HG book concept - opinions requested I think if spells were pulled from a Grimoire it would be best, in the front section, to list the spell, point cost, END cost and effect. Then have an appendix which actually broke down the spell into its rules components. If a spell required a component not in Sidekick then asterik and refer to 5ER.
  10. Re: Lack of Fully Developed Worlds I think the requirement for FH to run Turakian Age is a mistake, everytime I read, "refer this in Fantasy Hero" I cringed*. It would be similar to trying to read a JD Salinger book which is missing Chapter 3 and refers to the English Lit text book. Why? Fantasy Hero is more like a textbook, its not something I think everyone needs or will want to buy. Its a great book, but its not for everyones needs. Requireing it for a setting is just one more way to drive people away. IMO *admittedly there were only a few times that TA required a reference to FH, but at least one of those was a package deal for barbarians or horse lords.
  11. Re: Lack of Fully Developed Worlds I would fully support these books. Though I would argue to maybe push the price up in the $20-$25 range and be sure to include catchy and inspiring art (my personal choice). These would be books that may not be bought by the core fan-base, those of us posting on the boards, but would be good to help bring new people in. Also, I would not complain if the main rule book was shortened or broken up, or Sidekick pushed more than 5ER. 5ER has grown too large IMO; when one of the number one rules of the game is, "The GM has the final arbitration," the book seems to interested in defining every detail so the GM has no reason for independant ruling on a rule.
  12. Re: Lack of Fully Developed Worlds Forgotten Realms became the default D&D setting, so it has been pushed and pushed hard. It was used in all of the Gold Box games from SSI. Numerous stories and plenty of RPG supplements. I don't think FR is unique, but it incorporates just about every fantasy trope in it, so its easy to put a game somewhere in the world and get the type of fantasy you want. Which is something I don't understand about Turakian Age, its a good setting with neat ideas and plenty of places and games to play in.
  13. Re: Creating Our Own World Willing to help write, and can do some web-site stuff. My drawing skills end at still life, so unless aliens look like a bowl of fruit, I can't add much to the art sections. I could perhaps do some drafting, and layout of ship interiors.
  14. Re: Creating Our Own World I would go for Terran Empire (with DoJ approval of course) or Dark Champions: The Animated Series. Terran Empire is a galaxy spanning setting, so there is near infinite room for expansion without stepping on anyones feet. Even with DoJs Worlds of Empire, there are still several other galactic political forces that could be fleshed out. Also, good fan-based material may help with sales, move the setting away from its generic roots, or at least please people who are looking for a good sf setting. The hurdle would be getting DoJ to support it, and be able to use some materials, such as the galatic map. DC:tAS, I don't think DoJ has any plans for a specific setting. This I could be seen doing in several ways. Doing a modern setting, and adding a "Beyond" setting. This could be handy as it would be a super-ish setting, but without stepping on Champions Universe's toes.
  15. Re: Creating Our Own World My preference would run: 1 Supers 2 Space 3 Fantasy After that, anything would work. A nice thing about space, is it could be based on some generic assumptions, but even then, worlds that are built for a scifi setting can easily be moved from one campaign to another (as long as the general rules of 'science' are followed). Also, of the three major genres, I think its the least covered.
  16. Re: Lack of Fully Developed Worlds I will volunteer some time.
  17. Re: Lack of Fully Developed Worlds I would say that Hero developing a fleshed out world does not force you to play in it, or ruin your ability to build your own world. Even D&D core book only makes the assumption that the characters will be in a High Magic world, but does not define the world. In one groups d20 game we are in a homebrew world, but the GM took information from other sources to ease his burden in creating the world. On the other hand, to bring more new players into the game system, I think a fleshed out world with more details would be a great benefit.
  18. Re: Lack of Fully Developed Worlds I'll start of by saying some DoJ books are my most referenced books on my shelves, almost all the others have been very helpful and I enjoy them. CKC and USPD are probably two of the best books for Champions. I enjoy not only the write-ups of the villains, but adding the plot seeds was great. Well, the first part is having to define the problem. So it may seem like whining, but if everyone sees a different problem than there is no way to go towards a solution. If we want to do a fan solution, that will require some planning and likely a core group of fans to help organize and track it. I would recommend a small cabal, as that way when life issues interfere for a person, then others can help pick up the slack. Something I would not mind seeing, and would even help contribute to would be a shared world. From a thread way back in '03: http://www.herogames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6651 I don't know how to make it a not-official, official world. It would be nice to see maps, NPCs, information done in short pdfs. That way someone can use a web page as a reference, but also download smaller documents to reference in game. The other nice thing is that making it fairly top level, its easy to drop a campaign into it. Even looking through the other threads while searching for this one, there have been numerous threads on villains, NPCs and characters. It would be great if some of those were put into a world and easily available.
  19. Re: What do you think... Yeah, at the very least the next session can start with...so there is the tanker, just beginnig its fall, youhave 20 seconds to do something. Being time sensitive say 1 minute = 1 second, so they would have 20 minutes to work on a solution. Hugh has some good ideas as well. If the tanker hits the ground its pretty much the end of the campaign as is. The destruction will be brutal, metahumans will be blamed. Nastiness will ensue.
  20. Re: Anthropomorphic races In the Sanguine's *Claw books, lizards took up the roles left by evolution. So there are large lizards which take up take up the role of horse and cattle, and smaller ones that are chicken equivilants. In the wild you might run into a large predator, or a deer like lizard. Basically just a cheap way to get around the carnivore issue. There are a few anthropmoporphic lizard races as well (dragon, snake), but most of the furries are...well...furry.
  21. Re: Batman: The Animated Adventures WEG put out two sourcebooks for their DC game related to Batman. The first was mostly about the Bat-family and villains, crunchy bits. The second was a smaller book which was titled, "Daily Planet's Guide to Gotham." It had maps and details on the history of Gotham as well as all the major areas in Gotham. Highly recommended for a game based in Gotham. Its out of print, but its around, I found a copy last year.
