  1. BJ's got it right. You couldn't even play FH by using EVERY suggestion in the book. Most of the magic systems are incompatible.... If the FH package deals are throwing your game off, ditch them. If some are salvagible, then keep those. Don't think twice about ditching or rewriting if you feel the need. In the end, it's your world, and anything that doesn't feel right, isn't right.
  2. Oh, freaking GREAT! Thanks Steve! I've got VIPER and STAST (just got it today), but I still don't have CKC! NOW I have to go out and find ANOTHER book!
  3. "Writing is an adventure. To begin with, it is a toy and an amusement. Then it becomes a mistress, then it becomes a master, then it becomes a tyrant. The last phase is that just as you are about to be reconciled to your servitude, you kill the monster and fling him to the public." Winston Churchill I have to say you've done great work so far, Eodin. Try to keep this project in the amusement phase until you're ready to kill the monster...
  4. I would think it would depend on the special effects of the flash. As Hierax mentioned, a Stinking Cloud would probably be less effective (dogs are great smellers, and have no problems with smells that make humans nauseous). On the other hand, a Flash based on pepper or some other irritant might actually work better.
  5. Thanks for tantalizing us with books that have been out of print for almost 20 YEARS!!
  6. I'd be interested in what you come up with. I've been slowly working on something similar but more-fantasy-less-historical...
  7. Everyone knows that the natives of Pluto are fungi, and they call their home planet Yuggoth.
  8. I found a book called "Frontier Living" to be a great resource for this era. It has all kinds of pictures and commentary on houses, clothes, tools, etc, used in the US from colonial days up through the taming of the West. The emphasis is on the early frontier, though, since the Wild West has been pretty well covered already. The same guy who wrote and illustrated this book (Edwin Tunis, by the way) also wrote one called "Colonial Living", that looks like it covers that time period more in depth. I'm planning on getting that one sometime....
  9. Re: Re: Tax Cheats R Us... Steve Jackson Games has gotten a lot of mileage out of that Secret Service raid on their office back in the early 90's...
  10. Nice work, as always, Storn. Your Conan looks savagely regal.
  11. I generally do a combination of the two. In general, everything is made up, but within a given area in the fantasy world, there is a strong influence from a real-world area or time period. That frees me from the constraints of history's certainty as well as the uncertain nature of a total fabrication.
  12. I would most likely finish at that point. Robert was pretty thorough.
  13. Uh...oops...miscommunication. No FHC at this store. Just the Hero Bestiary, 4th Ed., and a copy of Viper's Nest from way back when. GrimJesta, it looks like it's in pretty good shape...a couple of scuffs on the cover, but no tears, marks, or spills. The FHC or FHC2 has full writeups for those monsters with abbreviated listings in 4th Ed FH. The Bestiary has more. A couple are repeats (old standards like zombies, werewolves, etc), but there are a lot more real world animals, a good selection of fairies and similar things, some demons and demon lords, diseases and venoms...a whole lot of stuff. Since it's used, they only want $6. Let me know if you want it.
  14. That's right. Full writeups for all those monsters in that list in 4th Ed FH....
  15. I'll check it out next time I'm in the store. I think it's in pretty good shape, and it might have been there ever since it first came out, even though it's over with a lot of used stuff. Anyway, I'll get back to you.
  16. It may work that way in your squeaky clean mathematics world, but among us unwashed regular gamers, things are quite different. You math guys just don't understand algebra of infinities, do you?
  17. Well, if you can't find one more conveniently located to you, my FLGS has had a 4th Ed Bestiary ever since I got here. It doesn't look like it's going to be sold any time soon.
  18. Besides Austen's magnificent ship combat rules, FC2 also has several package deals/spell colleges, and I believe it has rules for barding, too. The package deals include a paladin, a warrior-mage, and a thaumaturgist (built along the lines of the thaumaturgists in Master of the Five Magics). That's about all I recall at this point. Overall, I'd say it's a good buy, assuming you kept your bid to a common sense level.
  19. Sweet! I'm definitely picking this up before I start my Champions LARP!
  20. Re: How does sharpness affect a sword? In game terms, I've most often seen sharp swords written as having a higher number of dice for damage, but a reduced STUN multiplier, to represent how easy it is to cut the hell out of someone with a sharp blade, and they not really feel it. Of course, this is for a more normal type sharpness rather than a magical uber-sharpness.
  21. The sane have no business here. We're roleplayers.
  22. No range mod and one hex accurate, maybe? The old 3rd ed Danger International had guided missiles set up with a flat OCV. I don't remember what sort of modifiers it took other than that...maybe none. Someone with a copy might be able to help.
  23. I agree. What's odd to me is how Deadlands, with such an interesting and colorful system all its own, would get translated into so many other systems that are less interesting overall. Of course, translating it to Hero while keeping the chips and cards is no big deal....
  24. Adventure hooks. Nothing sucks more than having a really cool setting, but no ideas what to do once everyone's made a character...(White Wolf is notoriously bad for this). A couple of short adventures might be better, but would be probably too much space. At any rate, I'm just happy that I'm posting first, and not having to say "me too" this time....
