  1. Re: "revised" hit location chart? I'm pretty sure the chart on Fitz's site (http://www.mojobob.com/roleplay/herosystem.html) is straight HERO, but it's handy and well done.
  2. Re: Strange Zoology Damn it must suck not having arms and hands. Stranger than fiction.
  3. Re: No Gliding Limitation (6E) Good call; that would probably do it.
  4. Re: No Gliding Limitation (6E) I would think yes, but I'm having a hard time imagining Gliding at megascale.
  5. Re: Defying Gravity TV Series Rumor mill on the ABC forums is it is being cancelled. The claim is they are trying to find a time slot for it, hopefully that is the case. I thought it as a pretty cool show.
  6. Re: Haymaker a PRE attack? That's an NND that does BODY, and even though HERO doesn't have alignments, anyone who uses that attack is EVIL.
  7. Re: I superhero photomanip-ed myself. That's awesome. Every time I get an X-Ray I ask the technician if I'll get superpowers; I have yet to get anything (that I'm aware of at least). Repped. Your photo manipulation stuff is cool, I'll have to try that some time.
  8. Re: fair cost for strength that isn't strong Yes, I noticed that someone did say that I'm not sold on that maintaining game balance, but it's your campaign. NND trades doing actual BODY as part of it's game balance equation. However, I am a fan of doing whatever makes dramatic and common sense, so if it works for your game then run with it.
  9. Re: No Gliding Limitation (6E) There's a similar discussion to this going on in another thread (the Limited Deflection thread http://www.herogames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=75666). As I stated there, I'm on the fence about UP. I can see places where it makes sense and places where it doesn't, and it's not always clear if it is worth an actual cost savings or not; it's not much of a limitation, in general. I think it's good that it has the exclamation point; clearly Steve was concerned about it as well.
  10. Re: Star HERO with... not magic, really, but... An interesting take on the Gift for navigators would be to do some type of autistic-savant thing. Maybe the Gift only (or usually) manifests in people with Autism or Asperger's syndrome. This would make interpersonal dealings with them more difficult, and would also mean training them would be more difficult. I'm reminded of the Hybrids on the Cylon ships in Battlestar Galactica. This was something I started thinking about recently when I read an article how a gentleman has created a business where he's hiring autistic people because they are very good at certain jobs (especially math and engineering work). I can't find the link now, unfortunately, but it was pretty interesting stuff.
  11. Re: fair cost for strength that isn't strong So you allow NND to do BODY damage if enough BODY damage is generated by the attack? Sounds like a very inexpensive way to bypass all that pesky PD and ED characters like to stack up on. To each their own I suppose.
  12. Re: Limited Deflection For myself, I'm on the fence on the UP limitation. On the one hand, it does provide a limitation that cannot really be modelled in any other way, but is it enough of a limitation to justify a -1/4? I think the answer may well be that it depends. If a character puts all of his powers through the same UP limitation, then he is taking a bigger risk than a character who only has a couple of powers in it. The first character stands to lose more if any of his powers are adjusted, while the second is only risking one single other power. The best uses of this limitation may very well be "it depends."
  13. Re: Limited Deflection Which is a perfectly valid position. As GM you are well within your right to veto any power combo. It is technically RAW, but you need to do what makes sense for your game. Since the Unified Power has the exclamation point, it is clearly something that should require an extra level of scrutiny.
  14. Re: No Gliding Limitation (6E) I was putting up an example based on what you said you could do. The cost is the same whether the individual slots are unified or not, but my example was positing that if the reserve were unified then all of the slots were asimed unified as well. It is not RAW, under RAW my previous example is valid; you get the limitation on all of the slots and the reserve.
  15. Re: fair cost for strength that isn't strong I'm no martial arts expert, but I'm going to assume that a choke hold works by restricting blood flow to the brain. Logic dictates that once you've competely blocked the blood, additional strength is worthless; the blood can't be blocked any more than completely.
  16. Re: Star HERO with... not magic, really, but... Sounds interesting. I'm curious what the potentially disastrous results are - its a little vague on that. What might go well with this would be a crib sheet of otherspace rumors - examples of things that have happened to people in otherspace (true or not), to prime the imagination. That would be a great handout for players to help set the expectation for what their characters have heard about otherspace.
  17. Re: How do you build Drives? I was watching an old western the other day and it got me to thinking on communications. In the old west, you had near instantaneous communication via telegraph, but even then you didn't really have a conversation; you figured out what you wanted to say and sent it, then waited for a response (or not, based on the message). On top of that, you couldn't just pick up the phone; you had to go to the railroad (usually) and get the telegraph operator to send the message for you. This really helped with the frontier nature of the old west, I think, and would definitely change the tone of the Star Hero campaign that had similar limitations (ala the Orbital platforms previously mentioned). It's easy to take for granted the near instantaneous and mass communication and data transfer we have at our fingertips. With instant global news coverage, it's often hard to imagine what the world was like before this. I think it's an important consideration for a campaign setting.
  18. Re: No Gliding Limitation (6E) That pretty much makes my flying build case then. The -1/4 isn't necessary to get the fixed slots to fit, it's only necessary on the reserve: 8 Example Flying/Gliding Multipower-That-Isn't-Necessary-in-6E Multipower, 10 pt reserve, Unified Power (-1/4) 1f 10m Flight 1f 5m Flight; 0 END (+1/2); It's Not Flying (Drop 2m per phase to maintain velocity, drop 1m to gain 1m velocity, requires atmosphere, etc) (-1) Still points out the same as Flight. Note that based on the RAW, you can take the limitation on the Reserve and the Slots, as others have pointed out. Obviously UP requires at least two powers to share the limitation.
  19. Re: No Gliding Limitation (6E) That's correct, it doesn't by 6E rules, I was trying to build something like the freebie Gliding without using new modifications to Flight, which is why it's in there. It was based on what Sean had been saying about the free Gliding that you get when you buy Flight, and was thrown up more as an example of another way to get the same thing the new Flight gives you. I think the free Gliding with Flight will make dramatic and common sense in a number of situations, and I suspect that's why it has been added. I would prefer it not be free as well, but then again, I don't see it as a deal-breaker; it's really not that big an issue with me.
  20. Re: No Gliding Limitation (6E) So I did; I apologize, it was unintentional. I went back and read it again, and I'll be honest, I can't follow what you're saying after that point, but it's not worth arguing.
  21. Re: Flying into walls Good call - I like that idea EverKnight. Here's another thought; buy STR with a limitation only for casual STR against walls & doors, link it to the flight (you'll get 1/4 less limitation because the STR will probably be greater than the flight): 31 I laugh at your puny walls: +100 STR (100 Active Points); Limited Power Power loses almost all of its effectiveness (Only for casual STR vs walls & doors; -2), Linked (Flight; -1/4) With this power you'll have an additional 50 STR to add to the base STR (20 was it?) for bursting through the wall. You can burst through the wall and still attack; you're not using an attack action to do it. I'm not sure about the value of the limitation, but I think it's about right; you can't do much with this STR at all. The Linked limitation means it's proportional to the flight (6E1 p159), so you can't fly really slowly at the wall and blast through it, but I think that's a good thing. It's fairly expensive, but it is giving you the ability to burst through a wall like it wasn't there without using an attack; that seems like it should be worth something.
  22. Re: Flying into walls I like Sean's idea of the AOE cone for the wall debris as a weapon. Just keep in mind that the typical walls are nowhere near as tough as previously mentioned. According to 6E2 p171, a Brick Wall has 5 PD and 3 BODY, and a reinforced concrete wall is 8 PD and 5 BODY. So you can probably lower the DC a bit and still expect to get through. With 20 STR and 60m of Flight, assuming max velocity you have 14d6 without adding any powers at all, more than enough for most non-reinforced walls and should see you through the reinforced ones most of the time as well. One nice thing about Sean's build is it doesn't do any damage to the attacker like Move Through, and you don't need your max movement to get through most walls. The downside is you won't be able to add that additional damage to the user on the other side either. Another thought would be additional PD just for Move Through's on Walls.
  23. Re: No Gliding Limitation (6E) That's not gliding. That's Flight, 0 END, which is not the same thing as Gliding. With the power you described, you can take off, gain altitude whenever you like, don't have to drop altitude to maintain velocity, don't need an atmosphere, etc. That's not the same thing as gliding. Don't forget that the freebie Gliding aspect of Flight is at the GM's option, so there are no guarantees. Your version of flight above is pretty well guaranteed. I'd say those are pretty big limitations. I don't see the problem with it. The example comparisons you're providing are apples and oranges. The cost structure is exactly what it was before; the only thing new in 6E is that you get limited Gliding for free when you buy Flight, at the GM's option. Just remember that Flight, 0 END is not the same thing as Gliding. If it makes you happier, make Gliding a separate power like it was in previous editions, and don't allow the freebie gliding; the cost is the same.
