  1. Re: And 6e print books start to arrive I agree with the PDF + Physical idea, and appreciate that HERO Games is pretty progressive on this front. I still prefer to read on physical books, though I am considering a Kindle or Nook or some type of e-reader with non-transmissive display. But PDFs are great when you're on the computer, or at the office, or want to quickly look something up. The ability to search is a must-have. Someone on these boards dropped a tip about searches including an "H" before the term - the HERO Hex is actually an H character so if you're looking for a power or limitation or most of the headers typing in the H first, like "Hflight" instead of "flight" is a fast way to get to the definition of the power. I can't remember who gave the tip, but I owe them rep - it has saved me a ton of time. While on the subject of tips - and I'm not trying to derail this thread, but Foxit Reader instead of Adobe Acrobat for PDFs - much less bloat.
  2. Re: Fantasy Art Thread It's also extremely good Actually, they're all good, but the pirate takes the cake. Repped
  3. Re: And 6e print books start to arrive Got 6E1&2 today. They are heavy, nice - the paper seems to be high quality and the printing is outstanding. The PDFs don't do justice to the printing; they are very nice books.
  4. Re: And 6e print books start to arrive Tracker says it was delivered to my front door. I'm working late tonight, so I guess I'll have to look at it later
  5. Re: And 6e print books start to arrive Mine were scanned in Sparks at 8:50 PM on the 23rd. I live in Reno, so I'm literally only a couple of miles away so I guess I'll see them on Monday
  6. Re: Fantasy Art Thread Nice pick I have to admit, most of what I've seen from these tools (is it Poser?) don't usually grab me, but this one is done rather well. The poses seem more natural than they usually do. Very nice. Repped.
  7. Re: Get away from me. I'm not getting the same results as you. 10D6 Blast, Double Knockback (+1/2) is 75 AP, not 87.5. The average KB for this would be 26m. For the same number of points you could buy a 15D6 Blast, which would average 16m of KB. That extra 10m of KB equates to 5D6 of damage if the target hits a rigid object, so at 10D6 it's right in line with a +1/2 Advantage. At different dice levels the ratios are on par: 4D6 x2 KB vs 6D6 = 2m KB vs 0m KB 8D6 x2 KB vs 12D6 = 18m KB vs 10m KB 12D6 x2 KB vs 18D6 = 34m KB vs 22m KB 16D6 x2 KB vs 24D6 = 50m KB vs 34m KB To put it another way, the advantaged attack will yield the following inches of additional KB effect on average: 4D6: 1" 8D6: 4" 12D6: 6" 16D6: 8" Notice the progression - once we're past the difference of subtracting 7 for average KB modifier, the advantaged attack adds half again it's dice in inches of effect when compared to the same AP total non-advantaged attack. That's spot-on for a +1/2 advantage. Mathematically it works as follows. Consider X = # of dice in the double KB attack, the equation for KB is: Double KB: (2*X) - 7 Non Advantaged same AP: (1.5*X) -7 The difference is 1/2 X.
  8. Re: Get away from me. This is what I would do. I'd also add the limitation Only to Do Knockback, which I would think would be worth about -1. That makes the blast do no damage; it just throws you back.
  9. Re: APG Discussion thread It sounds so shiny... I must have it! Edit: There, that's better, got the bundle, downloaded, and I'll start reading it tonight Cursory glance says this thing is full of win
  10. Re: What if: Ironman vs. Bruce Lee Yeah, I knew that, I just thought the Chuck Norris stuff was funny so I'd throw it up there
  11. Re: CHAMPIONS 6E -- What Do *You* Want To See? I don't remember if this was covered in another thread or not, but will it be of similar production quality to 6E, i.e. full color with great artwork? I haven't seen what the actual print version looks like, but the PDF is beautifully done. I'd like to see the same production quality go into Champions 6E. I would also echo the mini-campaigns support. Things that help you sit down and run a mini-adventure right now would have a lot of appeal, both as a quick and easy run and also as a tutorial on how you can setup your own campaign/adventures.
  12. Re: Empathic Seizure I think you could still achieve this with Entangle using the Mental Paralysis rules and the No Defense limitation (-1 1/2). It would be helpful to know more about how you see the effect working, but it seems like Entangle might be a good fit for it.
  13. Re: AI with remote "puppet" body That's what I would suggest. If youe really needed to build it, or just wanted to, I think jtelson's suggestion of SFX on regeneration is probably the way to go. The other suggestions seem more of an effect from reason approach, rather than a reason from effect.
  14. Re: 6th Ed: Movement It would not be cannon. Maybe canon, definitely not cannon.
  15. Re: Hero Podcast: What Would You Like To Hear? I would subscribe to this. I doubt I'd want to listen to a gaming session, but I'd probably try it once at least. I think a plan for 15 to 30 minutes, and relatively frequent would be better, and go over the time if necessary. I'd echo most of the other suggestions. I'd like to hear a segment on how to reason from effect, especially with contrasting builds (sans the calculations because of the format), and the pros cons and implications of them. Segments on character design would be cool, as would a segment on campaign/world building, and applying/modifying the toolkit to achieve an effect.
  16. Re: What if: Ironman vs. Bruce Lee That video is 100% pure awesome! Of course, in a real fight it doesn't matter because Chuck Norris beats all. http://www.chucknorrisfacts.com/
  17. Re: I ruined my campaign Bob's idea of post-apocalyptic got me thinking. Maybe you can leave the character dead but have his legacy become a major campaign arc. If his SFX were viruses, you could have something virus based create a new problem. Could be super mega swine flu or even a virus is modifying normal people's genetic structure and giving them super abilities. The possibilities are endless, and it could be a really cool tie-in to the character, and that's what comic books are made of. This keeps the character dead, but has him around a lot in the character's minds. Maybe they have to investigate more about him to understand the extent of his powers (where did they come from, how did they work). Maybe the virus mutates into some type of symbiotic hive-mind monstrosity. There really are a lot of ways you could swing this to very good effect.
  18. Re: Tremorsense I'd probably go with the following (5E): 25 Tremorsense: Spatial Awareness (Unusual Group), Discriminatory, Increased Arc Of Perception (360 Degrees), Range (37 Active Points); Limited Power Power loses about a third of its effectiveness (Only for objects that move along the ground, cannot detect details that are not in touch with the ground; -1/2) This isn't true to the original from d20; you can sense through walls, and it's not limited to only 60'. However, since you've already decided to break away from d20, why not go all the way and make this a better fit for what has been described? There's no reason a tremorsense wouldn't work through walls, maybe there's a PER mod, but it should still work. As for the 5' or 1m or resolution, making it non-targeting is close enough to simulate that. I added discriminatory to allow the ghouls to know the difference between people and other objects. I would allow them to know the difference between individuals based on how they moved (biometrics fantasy style!). The limitation is a little more than earlier suggested because I think it's appropriate - with this you can't sense ranged attacks or even what is being done with hands/heads, flying things, etc. Heck - it might even be worth more, but I think -1/2 sounds about right.
  19. Re: Multipower imbalance So it would, that'll teach me to post in the wee small hours of the morning from my iPod touch I would second what Sean says about silliness. The HERO system gives a lot of power, but with great power comes great responsibility . The potential for abuse is there in this and in many other things as well. Actually, one of the things I like about HERO is that it requires such closer monitoring by the GM; much more so than other systems. While this may seem like a detractor at first, I think it empowers the GM and the players to work together to make the best gaming experience possible. In other systems you are spoon fed the rules and possibilities, in HERO there are well-defined game rules and constructs to use as a springboard for defining your own possibilities. I recall a lot of discussion about multiple attacks on the old boards, pre-5E. Myself, I was never aware that you could combine attacks, and it took a while to accept that this was not a game breaker.
  20. Re: Multipower imbalance I would think it unlikely that anything that can challenge a character with a 50 or 60 STR would be threatened bt a 1d6 attack, 6 separate 1d6 attacks, or even 20 separate 1d6 attacks.

  23. Re: Hero Basic 6th : Destructible FOCUS and Power Armor This would make a Western HERO character shooting a gun out of someone's hand's pretty difficult; there simply isn't enough BODY done with most pistols (.45 Colt Peacekeeper is only 2D6K). Of course, we could always build a power specifically for doing this, but I think your suggestion makes it pretty difficult to disarm someone.
