Automations and Programs
In Fred, p. 310, it says: "Automations can have a number of simple commands, or programs, equal to its INT." So, does mean they can buy programs at 1 point each to be "user friendly" like a computer or AI, or is that unnecessary?

Follower Improvement
While the rules explicitly state that a Follower, once created gains his/her own XP, can the master put his/her own XP into his/her Follower power that he paid for? i.e Upon character creation, I bought a 75pt. Follower for 15 pts. I gain some XP. Can I put an extra point into Follower for 16, thus giving me my Follower with 80pts.? (Let's leave aside for the moment the issue of in-character justification for the Follower's sudden acquisition of 5PPs.)

Duplication: Follow-Up Questions
Thanks for your response, Steve; however, your answers brought up a few new questions in my mind: 1.) Regarding mundane items picked up by the Duplicates -- I'm a little unclear what you mean when you say they "vanish" upon the Duplicate's recombination with the original. Do you mean that they simply cease to exist? Or that the items follow the Duplicate into the "Extra-Dimensional Duplicate Storage Closet", and the Duplicate will still have that backpack or candy bar once the base character re-creates that particular Duplicate? 2.) Similar question, with regard to the Duplicates selecting unique equipment for their individual VPP's and then recombining with t…

Powers with limited Advantages in ECs
Question on partially limited advantages in Elemental Controls: Bob has three 40 point powers (Energy Blast, Force Field, and Flight) that he wants to put in an Elemental Control. Normally this would look like: 20 EC: Bob Powers 20a EB (8d6) 20b Flight (20â€) 20c Force Field (20, 20) However Bob also has a staff (OAF) that makes it easier to use his powers. Normally he gets tired fast when fighting but when he has his staff he is like the energizer bunny. Keeps going and …. Anyway in game terms all of Bob’s powers are 0 End, but only when he has his OAF staff. Bob has bought each power individually like this before putting them in the EC:…

Movement Multipower
Hello everybody and hopefully saviors as a standard human has 6 running and 2 swimming, these are 14 points (2points for 1'' of running; 1 point for 1'' of swimming) spent already - like they have 10 STR etc. As most humans run OR swim, e.g. don't do this all at the same time, this was the point the idea for a movement multipower was born. Other ways of movement are of course leaping, flight, gliding, teleport etc. So why don't get them all into a multipower 'cause you're only using one at a time to move. Now the question for me is: is it allowed to take the base 14 points to calculate the Multipower (sell them back into the Multipower pool) and make u…

Questions re: Duplication
Reading through the new VIPER sourcebook got me to thinking about an old character I designed some years ago, and about the power Duplication. "Strikeforce" is a one-man Special Ops team -- basically a trained normal with a Gadget Pool for weapons and gear, plus the ability to Duplicate himself into 8 people. 1.) If the base character arms himself (i.e.; allocates points from his Gadget Pool) and then Duplicates, do all the Duplicates have the same gear as the original? 2.) Strikeforce creates all his duplicates, and then they all stroll into the armoury together to equip themselves. Can they each take a unique set of equipment as part and parcel of the VP…

Continuous + Accurate Followup
Your answer seems inappropriate for the power effect I was going for, so I will stop being so general. I create a power called "immolate". It consumes a target (i.e. Accurate) in flame and then continues to burn (EB: Fire) as long as I spend END. My question is can the target simply leave the AE and escape the flame? I don't want him to be able to do that, so: 1. Is the special effect of the accurate advantage enough to allow the continuous power to stay on the target? 2. You mentioned UAA. Is that really necessary in this situation?

Teleporting to Unseen Locations
I'm a bit confused as to how I would teleport to another country I have never been to. Say I purchase a teleport megascaled to planet sized. I'm in America, and I wish to teleport to Australia. Would I have to roll an attack at a DCV of 8? (3 for the base hex, -5 for being unable to see it?) Would the roll be the same if I was teleporting to an area in Australia I have already been to before?

Multiple Ablative defenses
The character, an ice throwing super has multiple defenses at his disposal. -- Force Field PD/ED is 15/20, Ablative (BODY). -- Armor PD/ED is 15/15, Ablative (STUN and BODY). -- PD/ED is 5/5. -- Total PD/ED, obviously, is 35/40, with different Ablatives. In a fight he's hit with 36 STUN and 11 BODY from a single EB (affects ED). How much of the Ablative defenses are "shot off" by the attack? In order, I'd think the FF would absorb hit before the Armor, followed by his inherent PD by an attack. Or does that not matter, and you work with the total rather than the parts? My guess is that after the hit, the FF remains uneffected as the BODY …

"Average" Defense with sectional Armor
Hy This is my first post to these discussion boards and before asking any question I would like to thank you for the great job:) So that's the question. I'm Running as FH campaign, and now have decided to use some penalty on the armors. In FH192 there are two suggestion to calculate the medium DEF if you use the sectional armor. Is this "average" DEF, whichever method you use to calculate it, the penalty's for the armor as for FH197? Or maybe it's the DEF or the highest piece of armor donned? and keep up with the good work

DEX off & Roll with Punch
Hiya Steve, The question: Taking into account the rules (listed below) from the FAQ, can a PC who has entered and then lost a 'DEX off' still abort to the Roll with Punch maneuver after being hit (and before damage is rolled, of course)? According to the text, Roll with Punch is the only combat maneuver that can be aborted to after any attack is made, and the way I read it, should only be disallowed if the PC had already taken an action that phase. But if a PC hasn't acted that phase, even after losing a 'DEX off', the PC should be allowed to use it. We had a small disagreement regarding this during our game last night. I hope you can clear it up for …

Ultimate Summon
Apologies in advance - this could be a long one. I'll try to list some options so you can simply advise if one is correct. In a superheroic game, characters pay points for equipment. In a heroic game, they are purchased with money, and you pay for the skills to use them. What about summoned creatures in a heroic game? [Could also apply to Multiforms or duplicates.] For illustration, assume the character wants to Summon a fully armed and armored, mounted knight. How would he deal with equipment? 1. The knight will, whenever summoned, have his equipment. Therefore, the equipment forms part of the character. He must pay points for his equipment but, a…

Continuous + Accurate
To create a power that is easily targeted and then follows the target whereever he may go, are these the only advantages necessary, or does the power require Mobility? I assume such a medly would be a STOP SIGN, but is this a correct blending of advantages?

Rounding question followup
Following up on my earlier post ("rounding question") and your response, the rounding description on page 2 of the core rule book uses a single decimal digit of precision. If you're using, say three digits of precision, does that mean that... 10.499 rounds to 10? 10.501 rounds however the player wants it to? 10.599 rounds however the player wants it to? 10.600 rounds to 11?

Characteristics & Transform
Would a transform that is described as "transform creature closer to physical ideal of its species, increases must be compensated for by experience expenditure of target or spell fails" be a Major or Minor transform? The intent of the power is to allow a quick and permanent (with variable healing method) increase in a characteristic but only up to normal character maxima modified by the target's racial package deal. Thanks

Naked Advantage Autofire and Reduced END
This question is in regards to buying the Autofire Advantage as a Naked Advantage. The cost of Reduced END increases when the base power is bought with the Autofire Advantage. When buying Autofire as a Naked Advantage, how do I account for this increase in the cost of Reduced END? Do I just double the cost of Reduced END, even though the power can be used without the Autofire Naked Advantage? Thanks for your help.

Rounding question
I looked in the FAQ and found several entries on rounding, but could not find one that quite covers this topic. If you end up with a fractional real cost for a power, what are the guidelines for rounding? examples: 10.4 presumably rounds to 10 10.9 presumably rounds to 11 what about 10.5, 10.51, 10.56 or 10.6? Mathematically, they all round to 11. Is this also true in the hero system?

find weakness and entangle
Find Weakness applies to attack powers. Entangle is an attack power. I have a player working on a character with a glue gun. The character is a good shot. It seems plausable that there are better and worse places to shoot someone with a big ball o' glue. My trouble is I can't figure out how to reduce an appropriate defense by half. Would it be best to take it on a case by case basis? Example - Marshall shoots a brick with the glue gun - reduce brick's strength by half for purposes of breaking out. This represents good shot placement. Example 2 - Marshall shoots a blaster with the glue gun - reduce blaster's WHAT? The appropriate defense appears to be st…

Programs
Steve, I was wondering, do Programs for computers always have to have a relevant skill? Some of them, obviously, do (like AutoPilot needs Combat Pilot and appropriate TF) but what if you would like to build something that would just operate your armor (or vehicle) if you got knocked unconcious?

Vehicle Characterstics
Steve Need to know if this needs erattaed or not. In the TUV, there's a chart (unfortunately don't have access to my book right now) that's about 2-3 pages in that lists the costs of a Vehicles characteristics. It also lists the costs of the optional ones as well. It shows that you get a base INT of 10 but a base EGO of 0. In the text later on as it describes the characteristics and when/how they might apply it says that you get a base of 10 in both Ego and Int. Which is true, Chart or Text?

Witchcraft
If a character has received GM permission to place a Talent in a Framework like Witchcraft apparently has, do you use the active points in the talent, or the power that the talent is based on, to determine how much of the framework it occupies? Witchcraft has Danger Sense in her VPP for 30 pts. If based on the underlying power, it would be 35 pts since there is a -1 advantage on the targetting part.

FAQ Error regarding inanimate item DCVs?
Ok, shouldn't an inanimate object have a base DCV of zero? It has no dex, and a live mobile character with a DEX of 2 still has a DCV of 1. DCV base 0 means that joe average (with OCV 3) is still gonna miss hitting that 1 hex sized piece of furniture (book shelf, dresser, whatever) on a 15, 16, 17, or 18. Plus an immobilized character is DCV 0. Am I right about this being a typo or error? This is the passage from the FAQs that I'm referring to: Q: What’s the base DCV of an inanimate object? A: A human-sized or hex-sized inanimate object typically has a DCV of 3. If the object is larger or smaller than that, you apply the Target Size modifi…
