First Mind Control question! ;)
Hey Steve - The absence of any questions in the rules FAQ regarding Mind Control was just getting to me, so I had to come up with one. Seriously though, according to page 131, if a situation changes while a victim is under Mind Control, and the change is such that a higher level of Mind Control would now be needed, then the victim of the Mind Control gets a new Breakout Roll with a +2 bonus per level of change. What if the situation changes in such a way that it would now require a lower level of Mind Control? Does the change in conditions make it more difficult for the victim to break out? (For example, let's say Batman was being Mind Controlled to bea…

Monster Question 2
I have a player that wants to use Duplication to build what amounts to a centaur. The character's upper and lower torso's would be the "duplicates". They're aren't seperate indentandly acting body parts, such as hydra's heads. This seems to over extending the power since a great deal of things would have to be handwaved. More than I am comfortable with for what seems to be an abusive construct. BTW:I did suggest the knockback thing posed in the first "monster question" thread, but more to illustrate some of the ridiculous situations this construct would bring up.

Deadly Blow
Steve, Does the Deadly Blow Talent (FH, p.105) change if the character uses it with a weapon that has Advantages (+1 Stun, AP, and so on)?

Not a question just more of a making sure...
You need FREd to play Champions right?

Monster question
If a hydra (or similar monster) built with duplication gets hit by an attack that does knockback, what happens? It seems stupid that the head (or whatever) that is hits flies away from the rest of the creature, but the rules can be read that way... /Henrik

Multiple Powers in EC slots
Hey Steve, I checked the FAQ and didn't find anything. Hopefully I didn't miss it. I know it's legal to put two Linked Powers into a single EC slot. What about Powers that aren't Linked? If you have an effect where two game mechanics are required to simulate it, but it doesn't make sense to Link them for some reason, can you put them both in a single EC slot without the Linked Limitation? (In the specific case at hand, I'm working on an ice-based character and want to give her an "Ice Slides" slot in her EC. In the USPD, Ice Slides are built as Running and Gliding in a MP together. Obviously I can't put a MP in an EC slot, and it makes no sense to Link th…

Multiform and vehicles
If a character with Multiform also has a vehicle, does he have to buy the vehicle with each of his forms in order for them all to use it? If not, which form pays points for the vehicle?

Damage Class Caps in Power Pools
Is this illegal? A character has a 150 pt. variable power pool. He has a 30 damage class attack bought through the variable power pool. He has bought this attack with a -1/2 limitation. With the freed up points he has bought 12 5 pt. Skill Levels with said attack. He uses 4 of the skill levels to raise the 30 damage class attack to 32 damage classes and the rest he uses to hit his opponent with. Doesn't this violate the Meta-rule?

Invisible Powers, Partially Advantaged Strength
Steve, I've got a couple of unrelated questions for you. (If in the future you'd prefer a seperate thread for each, please say so. ) 1) Suppose a character has a 75 STR and has paid for Armor Piercing on 50 of that 75 STR. In what order/how do you apply damage done by a punch to a target's defenses? 2) A character of mine has an invisible extra pair of arms...think Gil Hamilton of ARM (Larry Niven) except these are actual arms, not just short-range TK. Originally I bought this as +1 Fully Invisible and +1/4 Inherent, meaning it would probably look like TK to someone seeing things "float" around near him, but it actually is an extra set of arms. Last night,…

Escaping Entangles with Desolid/T-Port
If a character is in an entangle and either tries Desolid or Teleportation and for some reason fails, is that the end of the character's phase? I'm assuming because movement is required that a 1/2 phase is nessasary in any case?

Mental senses
Say I buy a detect based upon the mental sense group - I'm looking at using this as a possible baseline - defined as a detect that simply lets the player "know" if an effect is in the area and he made his roll. Is this considered a mental power, and would I need to limit it with "does not give mental awareness" if I do not want to allow that ( which I don't).

Images again
I think I see how to do it, but then is this the correct way to do the Spell that I quoted (p178 FHG): (A) Images to non-targetting sense (unusual group) (5 points), -4 PER rolls (12 points), Increased Size (250" radius, +2) [51 active points], OAF etc (-1 1/2), Gestures (-1/4), Incantations (-1/4), Requires skill roll (-1/2), limited effect (detect illusion only) (-1/4): 13.6 = 14 real points. You wouldn't need to have an adder for the detect since that would be covered by the limited effect, right? If I choose to use an unusual sense that has no other component (such as a detect that works with the sight group) I have to use the limited effects, since you ca…

Images question
Using the FHG, the Spell of Double Deception (p 178) is an image vs a detect. Trying to use it in HD doesn't work, since you need to select a sense group as its base (which gives you the targeting/non-targeting you need for images. So, two questions come to mind: 1) If an image is built for a detect that has the "no or unusual sense group", is that considdered a non-targeting version? 2) can you build an image to a mental sense, such as mind scan or mental awareness? Would it use the same rule (varydepending on targeting or not? After typing it, I think I know the answers, but would like an official answer anyway. Thanks

Variable Advantage
The Shrinking question made me think about this. After looking over the rules for Variable Advantage, I think the answer to the following question will be yes. If a power is bought with Variable Advantage, can you choose to use no advantage with the power?
0 votes1 answer -
Shrinking
The text under Shrinking does not specifically state in either direction, but I'm assuming that if you have, say, 5 levels of Shrinking, you can Shrink to only 3 levels if you like. Its not all or nothing. Is that correct? If so, what might an "All Or Nothing" Limitation be worth? -1/4? -1/2? Thanks

Followup: FF protects carried items
Silly me, I only checked the FAQ for defense powers That answered the last two questions, but not the first. If a carried character is inside the FF, and attacks out, does the FF hinder the attack?

FF: Protects carried items
As a default, if you're carrying someone inside a FF with protects carried items/people... if they attack out, does the FF hinder them in any way? Conversely, if they decide to attack you, from inside the FF, does that negate the defense? Is it correct to assume that successfully grabbing/being grabbed does not mean the other person is "carried"?

WF: All?
Is it leagal to purchase 3 -3 point PSL in order to make a character with WF All Wapons? I am asking because before I was buying this as 3 -8 point skill levels for all combat with the limitations of -1 AOF Weapon of opertunity and -1/2 only to remove penalties. But it has been recamended that this second construct would be more "Rules Legal" by a fellow hero lover. (Plus it is a whole lot easier to put down

Knocked Out of Maneuver
I am not sure if this is a holdout from a prior rules edition, or my home cooking Steve but here goes. . . When a target is struck while in a maneuver (martial or otherwise) and is driven back by knockback or knockdown, is the target driven out of his maneuver? For years I have done things this way. EX1: If Keneton is in a mratil strike and is still hit and takes 2 " KB and still lands on his feat I would say his CV is still base + appropriate levels, but he no longer is in Martial Strike stance. EX2: Prophet aborts to a dodge but still gets hit. He takes 2" knockback and stauys on his feet. Does he lose his Dodge DCV bonus vs subsequent attacks as he i…

Dumb TK Followup
All your answers are reasonable, and pretty much what I would be inclined to rule. One followup, though. You refer to an OCV penalty for fighting telekinetically rather than HTH. Would you allow the character to define his weapon familiarity as being telekinetic in nature, with the penalty applying if he does not use TK? [Yes, this is a bit outside the rules, but so was your -1 OCV comment, so I'm hoping you'll look the other way and provide your views on this one.] Thanks Hugh

Dumb Telekinesis Questions
Assume a Heroic character has telekinesis (say a wizard with a spell). (a) Can he use this TK to wield weapons? [That's the easy one since he can do anything he could do with STR...] Would this require Fine Manipulation [to use only the Strike maneuver, as Grab would not apply and those are the TK maneuvers]? ( If he can, does he need Weapon Familiarity with the weapon to avoid OCV penalties? © Can he use skill levels with the weapon through his telekinesis? Why yes, my FH mage DOES have a telekinesis spell (and an 8 STR). Why do you ask?

Missile Deflection & Reflection while Desolid
Presume said character is desolidified and has full missile deflection & reflection, and an attack with the Affect Desolid or his limited special effect weakness hits him. Does his Missile deflection & reflection power have to be bought with the Affects Real World advantage to work against either of these cases? Or is the character limited to deflecting & reflecting attacks only from other desolid opponents?

Acrobatics and Movement Followup Question
I'm sorry to ask, but I couldn't find where the book explicitly states that using acrobatics to add to your OCV was a 1/2 phase action. I assumed it was, was that correct?
