Variable Advantage and Spreading
Let's say I have a 15d6 Energy Blast with a +1/2 Variable Advantage. Normally I could drop the EB to 14d6 and spread to hit two targets. If I use the +1/2 to make a One Hex AOE EB may I still reduce the EB to 14d6 and have two One Hex AOE attacks? SAW

TK and move through
OK - I feel safe to post because I a) checked the FAQ and searched this board. I'm developing a hero (Jupiter) whose TK is manifested through three chrome spheres that he can send to do his bidding - they can work together to lift things, grab them, or just pummel them. No fine manipulation, but an EB, and the TK for an indirect strike when necessary. Could TK be used to move through? Its the same maneuver, only Jupiter wouldn't be there. On the one hand, it seems within the rules. On the other, it seems like a cheat since the drawback to the move through appears to be missing, and the difference between the TK move through and the EB part of the "moons of Jupiter" …

Holding An Action
When a character wants to Hold their action, does the player have to specify what they're waiting for, or can the player simply wait to see what happens before deciding what to do with the action? I think most folks play it the latter way, but the wording in the Holding An Action section makes it sound like the former might be the actual intent. It says a character, "...may wait until a lower DEX or until some event occurs." Does this mean they must specify a DEX or an event to wait for? Thanks!

HTH Attack (Power) with Advantages
I looked in the FAQ and didn't see this, my apologies if I over-looked it. If a character buys the HTH Attack power and applies a damage Advantage to it (Armor Piercing, Double Knockback, whatever), does that advantage then apply to the character's base STR for free when he uses that attack? Thanks in advance.

Can Drain BODY kill a character?
I don't know if this has ever been asked before, but: Dr. Lightning has 10 BODY and no Power Defense. The Necromancer hits Dr. Lightning with a particularly nasty Drain BODY, and drops him down to -11 BODY. 1. Is the good Doctor dead, or does he recover 5 points every post-12 (effectively "coming back from the dead")? 2. If he starts to recover, does he lose BODY every phase from bleeding, shock, etc., or is he assumed to be stabilized? Thanks! Bill.

non-combat multiplier question
This question comes up due to an issue found with HeroDesigner. see This Thread for details. The root of the question is: This character has the following two powers, each in a separate multipower: Flight 15", x16 Noncombat (45 Active Points) Flight 15", x16 Noncombat (45 Active Points) Increased Endurance Cost (x3 END; -1) If the character does not allocate the MP points to the second power, wouldn't his flight be 15"/240" (combat/noncombat)? If he allocates the points to the second power's slot, but does not pay the END for the power (thus, not activating the power), I would think the power is still Flight 15"/240", as the END for the adde…

computers in vehicles
Hello folks. I want to make sure that I am using a rule correctly. There is nothing in the FAQ about this that I can find. If you have a computer built into the vehicle, how are the points done? Does the computer have to be bought separately from the vehicle as a character perk? Is the computer bought from the vehicle points (5x) but paid for 1 for 1 out of the vehicle points? Or, is the computer again divided by 5 out of the vehicle points? Any clarification is greatly appreciated. skaven

Starships and Force Walls
When a spaceship has a force shield built with Force Wall (see TE, AW), must it "lower shields" to be able to fire its weapons unimpeded? How about a force shield built with Force Field? Thanks! Ben

How do you build Multiform characters?
I'm rather confused by the Multiform power. Is it intended to build characters who have several similarly-powered forms, or characters who transform into a more powerful creature (superheroes like Captain Marvel and the Hulk)? The Multiform description says that "A character's forms are built on the same base points as the true form," so this seems to indicate that Multiform are effectively limited to the character's basic power level, while the "true form" will be substantially weaker (having paid for the Multiform power). Is this correct? Following that, how would one build a character who transforms into somebody much more powerful? Is this what OIHID is for?…

Grab vs Noncombat
Suppose Viperia is flying at 240" noncombat. Gravitar Grabs her with her 50 str Area Effect TK which is greater than Viperia's casual str, even with Flight Str added. Does Viperia immediately go from 240" of movement to 0" of movement? And if she doesn't, how do you handle the loss of 1/2 phase when she breaks the Grab?

Shrinking and Spread EB
Mr. Long, If a person spreads an Energy Blast to attack all targets in a hex and one of them is is shrunk, lets say 4 levels, does the shrunk character still get his +8 DCV bonus for being shrunk vs the attack? Thanks

HTH Attack/Martial Strike/Rapid Fire
I'm building a character to poosibly replace my current one. His primary attack power will be a STR of 30 coupled with a 4d6 Hand to Hand (physical) attack. My question is: If I buy rapid fire for the HTH Attack will I be able to use Martial Strike (applied to the HTH Attack)while rapid firing? Will my STR apply to damage while using RF? Thanks.

Halving negative CV
Hi Steve, If a character is driven to a negative OCV or DCV and subject to a modifier that halves said CV, how should his CV be adjusted? Thanks.

Simultaneous Move-Through Knockback
Steve, A follow-up question concerning Knockback. Using your example, suppose Ramrod does 23 Body to Tank, and Tank does 27 Body to Ramrod (the average) and assume that each rolls a '7' on the Knockback dice, so Tank takes 16" of Knockback and Ramrod takes 20" of Knockback. With that in mind, here are my questions: 1) The person performing the Move-Through takes full damage if the target is not knocked back; if the target IS knocked back, the attacker takes 1/2 damage himself because he doesn't come to a sudden full stop when he his the target, he continues on for a bit (through space previously occupied by the target) before coming to a stop. Let's use Ram…

Move through Damage
I may have missed this in the rules and faq, if so I appologize. What is the "base" damage when performing a move through? For example: if a character has a STR of 25 and 50" of Running and performs a Move Through is the base damge the STR Damage, meaning the most that can be done is 10d6?

Head-to-Head Move Throughs?
Steve, If two characters are charging right at each other, head on, how do you resolve the results? I'd think you'd handle it like a Move Through, but since there is no such thing as "simultaneous" attacks, this would mean that one of the people would get to make the Move Through attack and the other would get...clobbered, even though running headlong into a target that's moving toward you should do more damage than you'd do to yourself by doing a Move Through on a stationary target. Assuming simultaneous Move-Throughs, how would you handle Knockback? I'd think that your Movement would tend to counteract some of the Knockback you'd receive from the other guy hit…

Adjacent Hex and Move Throughs follow-up
Lord Liaden asked you a question about adjacent hexes and the answer wasn't clear enough for my meager intellect. You said, "1. No. Adjacent is adjacent — right next to the hex the character is standing in when he begins or launches the attack." Here's the deal. For a move through, the first sentence in it's description describes that attack as a full move up to the target and then an attack: "Move Through allows a character to attack at the end of a Full Move by running right into his opponent." So, in a move through, not stretching or the like, is the hex adjacent to you when you attack at the end of a full move considered adjacent? I really can't under…

Two CV-Related Questions
Hi, Steve! Hope things are going as well for you and the company as they seem. These issues came up in a current board discussion, and I wasn't able to find anything on them in 5E or the FAQ (if they're there somewhere I apologize): 1) A hex that's adjacent to where a character is standing is considered DCV 0 for purposes of targetting it with an AoE attack, rather than the standard DCV 3. Let's say that a character has a 1-hex AoE for his Strength (due to size or whatever), but is able to target a hex a greater distance from him by performing a Move By or Move Through, or using Stretching. Range Modifiers would not apply, of course, since these are HTH maneu…

question about walls
If you want to make a wall (for a base) resist Teleportation, do you need to add an adequate number of levels of hardened to counter the levels of AP that a Teleportation power has or do you need to use (an adequate number of levels of) "Cannot be Escaped with Teleportation" or can you go with either? "Cannot be Escaped..." is listed in both the Entangle and Teleportation power descriptions. The latter one (5th ed., Page 150) says that it can be applied to walls. As both advantages are the same cost, it seems that if either one can be applied (to stop Teleportation), it seems you get a bigger bang for your buck by going with Hardened since you get the additiona…

Follow-up Question to "Clash of Limitations/Advantages"
Thank you for pointing me at the FAQ, I bow my head in shame for not consulting it first. However, I now would like to request a clarification. Since Invisible Power Effects at x2 cost hides the effects as well as the source of the power, does that mean a Mental Power does not have to achieve the +20 effect to mask its use from the target if it has this Advantage applied?

Clash of the Limitations/Advantages
This is a somewhat complicated question. There is a character in the Champs game I play in that has the concept of "invisible mentalist". This character is actively afraid of being found out as a mentalist, and her power builds reflect the degree of subtlety she is looking for. To take an example of one of her powers, she has a low-dice Mind Control. To boost the effectiveness of the power, she has the Cumulative Advantage on it. To maintain her "invisible mentalist" concept, she also has Invisible Power Effects vs Mental Senses (to mask the source of a power use) and Mandatory Effect +20 (to conceal that a power was used at all). The question which has …

Skill Master in FH
The Skill Master rule (FH 107) gives a charcter +3 with a skill or with all skills based on a single Characteristic. My question is: what does this +3 do exactly? How do +x bonuses work on spells? Does this increase the roll or affect something else?

Stupid Question, maybe....
I have just converted my friends over to a new 5th edition campaign. I am used to 2nd edition and it has been years since I have played so I have a weird Move Through question. When it says take 1/2 damage does that mean the attacker takes 1/2 damage and the victim takes 1/2 damage or does it mean that the attacker takes 1/2 damage and the victim takes full damage?
