Hardened Mental defense
ok, So the ultimate mentalist states that all mental attacks do not do killing damage, yet the super mage book has mental attacks that do. So in 5th edition is all mental defense considered to be hardened or not?

Upgrading skills with variable costs
Is it allowed to upgrade variable cost skills after play starts, using earned XP? For example, spending 1 XP to upgrade a KS2 to an INT-based KS3, or spending 3 XP to upgrade a CSL5:HTH to a CSL8.

Multipower - I'm blind or stupid
When figuring out what portion of a multipower reserve a fixed slot takes up, do you use the real point cost or the active point cost? In other words, do limitations on powers within a multipower reduce how much of the multipower they "eat" up?

Char Max and Char based Talents
Do Characteristics based talents (like lightning reflexes) double in cost as they take the effective stat above campaign characteristics maxima? The context in which this came up is here: http://www.herogames.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&postid=7824#post7824 We're dicussing GM created "feats" for fantasy hero and, since one of them is built using SPD, we were wondering if the cost should be doubled. -DG

Reputation Perk
Okay... Some things about purchasing the Reputation Perk confuse me. Let me give you an example: let's say Officer O'Malley is somewhat known in his neighborhood as a tough cop, but since he's new, he's only slightly known as yet. This is a small to medium sized area. So, we start with a 0. He's only known on an -8 roll. This gives us a -1. Does this mean that each level of positive Reputation he buys thusly will give him back a point? If he had been known on an -11 or less, would all the levels have been free? --->M@ss

Suppress
After doing an complete search of the boards, I'm just going to post a question to you on it. If you cast multiple Suppress at the same target are they cumlative? Do you have to pay endurance to keep each one active? Do you just get to keep your best roll? Is there an max like 4d6 means a max of 24 points of Suppression. Example: Dr Magus throws Spell Bindings 4d6 Suppress vs all Magic. He rolls an 18. Can he then throw it again to Suppress more assuming he keeps paying the end on the first one? Next phase, He hits and rolls an 19 on his 4d6 of Suppress. Is he suppressing 19 points of Magic for 6 End or 37 points for 12 End? Or is it 37 for 6 End? What…

Dispel and Desolidification
Not clear on how dispel works w/ desolidfication. If the PC has Dispell - all powers w/ water special effect, and Vapor Man has Desolidification (turns to water vapor) can I dispell his desolidification, or did I need to buy "Can Affect Desolid"? My argument was that the dispel isn't effecting/targeting the desolid character, but the power itself. Seems a rip that my "Affects all powers of a special effect" is really "all powers, other than desold, of a special effect". And w/ the "Affects Desolid, Dispell desolidification" the active points compared to Desolid seems a bit one sided. I searched the FAQ and prior threads, and couldn't find anything in my searches. …

More "Penetrating" Question...
Currently playing a Fantasy Hero game... Have a weapon that does Base of 1D6-1 Penetrating... Using Martial Maneuvers, I can get 1D6+1 on the weapon... I roll a 4... Is this 4 Body or 5 Body with A minimum of 1 Body getting past the armor? Or am I completely off? I've checked other post and havent seen an answer that clarifies this for me. Steve Long wrote Unm okay, then how would you buy just a computer (Is it a seperate perk that is not listed?) ... Anyways back to the question on hand, to make sure I got it right: it would then be the cost of the automation + the cost of the computer=The total cost of the Computer brained individual? If the character wanted 4 of these automations would it be +10, or +20 (+10 for the automations, +10 for the brains?)

CKC: Double-dipping?
Hi Steve, Long-time listener, first-time caller (I always wanted to say that). In CKC, I notice several characters take limitations (such as OIF and Activation) on both their Multipower and individual slots. Is this legal? I can see how Charges could be different, but if the battlesuit is OIF, wouldn't the laser blaster be automatically considered OIF? Are the cost savings applied individually to both the framework AND slots?

Automated Brain
Fred mentions that an automation can sell back its INT and then have a computer Brain installed, If this is done is it considered one or two followers? Right now I am actualy working on a team of robots, and considering how to handle some stuff, thank you for the assistance...

Armor Piercing PRE
What effect does AP have on attacks such as PRE attacks or certain mental powers? For example, does having the AP adv. on PRE halve a targets PRE when considering the effects of a PRE attack? Does AP halve MD only when dealing with powers such as Mental Illusions or Mind Control, or does it also halve the targets EGO when determining whether or not the user reaches the desired effect (+10 EGO, +20 EGO, etc...)? I appreciate any clarifications you can give me (or point me to if they're around here somewhere.) Mancer

STUN / END Drain / Suppress
Recovery, 5e, p.285 (italics mine): "Characters may Recover STUN and END lost due to injuries, using one's Powers, being attacked with a Drain, or any other cause." Does this mean that STUN or END Drain or Suppress Powers are Recovered from normally?

This one is confusing
If a character has Multiform, and one form has Duplication with "Can not recombind", is he automaticaly duplicated when he changes to that form? So if Mythic can transform into a number of mythical creatures, when he transforms into Hydra, does he already have multiple heads (assuming you are using the sample power from Fred)?

A couple of questions about the SET maneuver
Hi Steve, A couple of quick questions about the SET maneuver: 1 - Can it be used in Hand-to-Hand, or only at range? The table on 5E-254 and text on 5E-259 don't say, but the sample character sheet after the Index indicates it is for Ranged Attacks only. 2 - Can a character Set and Attack in the same initial phase, or must he spend an entire phase just setting first? For example, assume a Speed 6 character, just entering combat. Can he in Phase 2 Set and Attack (performing no other actions, except zero phase actions, such as Brace). Or is it in Phase 2 he Sets, then in Phase 4 he maintains the Set and Attacks? Thanks.

FRED and Maximum Lift
I've been constructing an Excel spreadsheet to help me format characters according to the HGWG. As I've been setting up the auto-calc features, I've noticed something. The Max Lift values in the Strength Chart for the most part (but not exactly) follow the 25 kg x 2^(STR/5) formula. Especially when you get up into the god-like levels of Strength, liberties have been taken in the rounding of figures. When constructing a character, Steve, how have you been handling the Max Lift of characters with, say, a STR of 48, or 63, or whatever?

Usable By Others question
1. If a Power is built Usable By Others using the Differing Modifiers rule on 5E 177, can the Power be placed into a Framework? 2. If the UBO Power is built into a Focus, does that trump the rules for Line of Sight and/or maximum range?

HHA and Damage Sheild
Steve, I'm sure this question has been asked before, but here goes: My character (Super Blue) Has a STR of 35 (7d6 base Damage) If I purchase a 3d6 HHA with DamageSheild, will that give me a 10d6 Damage Sheild (i.e. do I add STR to my HHA to figure the damage on my damage sheild?)

SH Equipment Pricing Question
Steve, On pg.177, the Pricing Guide lists Vehicles as; "1000 credits (or more) x total Character Points." I assume this means the total number of points (less Disadvantages) times 1000? For example; The Merchant Ship (pg.222), lists the "Total Vehicle Cost: 507" So the Price of the Vehicle would be 507,000 credits (or more). Is this correct?

Usable by others @ frameworks
If a person(Lets call him Kiteman) has flight with usable by others, no END and persistant, in a multipower or variable power pool which he then grants to another player(Lets call this one groundboy). If Kiteman switches the flight out will Groundboy loose the ability, or does the effect actually "Give" the player the power?

Martial Arts Limitations for Telios' "Fighting Arts of a Dozen Lands"
Steve, Sorry to bug you with another couple of martial arts questions, but here goes: Telios, The Perfect Man (Champions Universe p.134) One could say that HA +6d6 (HtH; -½) is essentially the same as STR +30 (only to Strike; -½) but HA's don't get another limitation for "No Figured Characeristics". So why would Telios' "Trained STR" +30 STR; Only to Disarm, Escape, and Grab (-¾) also get "No Figured Characeristics" for (-½)? Wouldn't not getting the figured characteristics be part of the exclusion from "Only"? Also, What would "Only to Grab" or "Only to Escape" or "Only to Disarm" by themselves be worth as limitations? STEVE - Writer's Guidelines and Hero Designer
This is a copy from the Company Questions Forum. I wanted to make sure that you got this. I wasn't sure which Forum to use. I am currently working on a project converting about 140 characters, vehicles, bases, computers, etc. from 4th to 5th. I'm using Hero Designer to do the work. Unfortunately, HD doesn't Export exactly per the WG. I've been working with Dan to create Export tags and the like to get it closer to the WG. What I'm wondering is how much leniency are you giving to the creation of characters and such using HD? These characters I'm building will be for submission in publications. So I'm very concerned about it. I have all the characters entered…
