So I go back to the couch after my earlier post, and get some nap time in. Jenn checks in on me before heading out to some work for a friend. I go back to sleep and barely after Jenn takes off, someone knocks on the door. It's open, so I attempt to ask who is it. Being that I'm breathing through my mouth exclusively based on the wads of gauze and blood stuffed into my nose, I barely manage it. It's a solicitor for some roofing company (we have a brand new roof) and he won't go until he makes sure I see what he can do for me. I get up, walk to the door, and tell him to go away. He practically runs. Sure enough, I had a nice trickle of dried blood around my mouth and throat again. Damn. And Hee. Good luck with that. Keep up your fluids. White Heat's right on that. What's making me cranky is that I received a call yesterday letting me know that my doctor won't be in, but I can be seen by "Emily." Normally, I would've postponed the appointment until I can be seen by my usual doctor. However, for about a week now I've had this strange rash growing on my leg that needs to be looked at, not to mention it's itching like crazy. Being a diabetic, anything that goes wrong with the legs is very very important. Usually, they don't heal well and infections and such can lead to some very nasty surprises (like amputation!). I've had something similar before that left my legs with this strange mottling. Right now, I'm betting on cellulitis. The bad thing is I don't know who this Emily is. I've been shuffled to a different female doctor once before and I don't remember her name. However, back when this happened I couldn't hear out of one ear. The female doctor checked and told me that I had ear wax clogging up the works. She suggested I go to the pharmacy and buy one of those earwax cleaning kits. Which I did. A couple of weeks later, I still couldn't hear and returned to see my doctor, upon which he told me that my eardrum was ruptured. What pisses me off isn't the wrong diagnosis, but the fact that the earwax cleaning kit isn't supposed to be used if you have a ruptured ear drum. I hope it's not the same doctor because if it is I'm going to be a very uncooperative patient. Damn doctors! After seeing the mess that was made out of my wife I am finding it very hard to trust any of them. What I find most galling in this from personal experience is that I've had a couple different doctors, including a specialist, say that those ear wax kits are USELESS if you have built-up earwax. They are to be used for maintenance (which some argue is unnecessary btw); once you have built-up earwax they can actually make it worse. What happened to me (I used them without doctor's advice) was that the liquid got stuck behind the build-up and made things worse. So whoever told you that is probably completely incompetent and you should say "no thanks" if it's the same person and demand to see your doctor or find one that a friend recommends highly ASAP. BTW, you'll find that doctors mysteriously can make more time for patients who aren't regular or are new to them. How...odd...as if a prospect were more important than a regular patient. Well, it can't be for mercenary reasons... Anyway, after all that, good luck and I hope "Emily" is someone different. I knew an Emily, if she were a doctor I'd trust her. It is being held 200km out bush and I'm leaving with my brother-in-law tomorrow morning, very close to first light of dawn. Staying the night at our duplex house and then coming back home on Sunday. What I'm upset most is that it is a huge inconvience to travel for 3hrs there and back and ruin my weekend for a 1 hr wedding and a 2hr post wedding celebration. So for three hours out of my time, I got to sacrifice 1 weekend? Just doesn't seem right, and a bit arrogant I must say. Am I overreacting, does this seem normal to you? A few years ago, my family had to drive several hours to Folsom, which is just past Sacramento, for a wedding. But Folsom has many old buildings, which were nice to look at, and the family also got together for dinner before the wedding. Maybe there's something you can do besides just attending the wedding. The neurologist hasn't found any "Cause" in either his or my aunt's condition. Degenerative bilateral neuropathy. I just hope that I avoid it as my uncle seems to have. Dad's balance is shot, his hands shake, they don't THINK he has Parkinsons. Shake has gotten so bad he can hardly shoot any more. He's kind of my "second string" doctor . I hadn't seen him in a while and was quite relieved to find that he would be treating me. Diagnosis, I must have come in contact with something that caused the rash and then it got infected. What I hadn't noticed, but the doctor did, was that the leg is actually "hot." A cream and antibiotics were prescribed. On a slightly different note, I was also given an antibiotic injection. Which was strange because I haven't had one in the "butt" in quite a while. However, when the pretty nurse came in to administer it I quickly and eagerly dropped trowel. So, I guess it wasn't such a bad day afterall.
