Re: Pulparize It!

Sure. Take a cue from Fearless and have a competition set up to prove who's style is superior in an effort to whip up Chinese or Japanese national pride. Actually, this sounds like Blood sport. Hmm... one could have the Japanese military back it, to prove their superiority and/or scope out the competition. That makes it more like Fist of Legend, though....

Re: Pulparize It!

It can be set up like one of the other Van Damme movies where fights are arranged for gambling, and take place wherever designated. Bison, the master of Shadoloo, becomes a warlord in the Far East trying to grab whatever he can before the world goes over the edge. Chun Li would have to be the daughter of a local bureaucrat, but not connected to Interpol. Guile could probably be an adventurer who learned how to fight, but not Special Forces. Ryu could probably be the same.

Last Man Standing -- A masked avenger wanders into a Texas border town and finds it in the grip of two rival bootlegger gangs' date=' who trade guns for liquor with Mexican bandits. By working both gangs against one another, he decides to clean the town up in a blaze of .45 automatics. (Okay, that was an easy one.)[/quote']

Even easier since 'Last Man Standing' was based on Dashiell Hammett's story, 'Red Harvest' (which is a humdinger, by the way!)

Stargate SG-1: The Nazis have a gate also' date=' and the team works feverishly to find allies off-world while limiting German influence.[/quote']

Nah, you're watching the wrong show. In another universe it's called Stargete SS-1. Which of course has has the plucky Nazis facing off against demented hordes of degenerate capitalist warmongers intent upon defiling thier precious bodily fluids and making them yet another of the mongrel races!

Ah yes, I can see it now... The Colonel, brave hero of the eastern front, blonde haired, blue eyed (patch on the left one), dueling scar slightly disfiguring his handsome visage yet being strangely attractive to all females of all races. A master of tactics and amazingly lucky. His shirt gets torn off in every episode.

His comrades, the Scientist, Austrian, brave and highly intelligent but with a dark secret that hints at some impure blood or dark genetic secret.

The valkyrian female warrior scientist who secretly loves the colonel but will not violate his or her code of ethics and honor.

And lastly, thier ally, a... hmmm... Italian, Romanian, Finn? Ah, Russian of course! A huge man, a great warrior who now realises how his people have been tricked into servitude by the communists and now fights to bring them the joys and freedom of National Socialism!

Oh yeah, in that other universe the series ran for years and led to the highly successful Stargate: Lemuria

Wonder where I can find the DVD's...

Modified Punisher.

Here's an easy one, but I decided to modify it slightly, partially because I like it with the addition.

The Punisher: During the Prohibition. After an act of mob violence, former police officer and Untouchable Francis Castle is believed dead, killed with the rest of his family. Francis is alive though. Now he roams the streets, killing petty criminals and various mobsters as he tries to get to the man he holds responsible for the death of his family, Al Capone.

Meanwhile, Castle's former boss, Elliot Ness, believes that Francis is still alive and is trying to catch him while trying to find a way to bring Al Capone to justice.

Now, Francis Castle must run from his former friends and coworkers while trying to get the one man he wants to kill most. It's a race against time and each other to see who can bring down one of the most powerful mobsters of the era.

The only problem is there were no skull T-shirts back then. He'd have to wear a black suit and fedora and have a silver skull stickpin in his tie.

He could always wear a skull-shaped mask. He'd fit in just fine with all the other masked crimefighters of the 30's.

Re: Pulparize It!

Don't need to. Watchmen already features the Minute Men, who were a pulp-era (well, WWII) group of crime fighters. That said, the modern characters are still fairly pulpish -- Nite Owl II, Rorschach, and Silk Spectre need almost no modification, while Ozymandius is very much like the Shadow, without the guns. The only issue is Dr. Manhattan. His power level is way off the scale for most (if not all) pulp.

skull knives and Wanted

Well in the 80's Punisher Movie starring Dolph Lundren, he did not wear the skull shirt. Instead the skull was the ball at the very bottom of knives he used. The knives and hundreds of bullets were all that were found at most of his scenes and were considered his calling card. The same could be done in pulp era.

But anyway:

Wanted: (Movie) The movie in itself is easy enough. The Fraternity is supposed to have been around since the Renaissance, so any point between when it was formed and modern day could be used. I did have an interesting idea for it though.

(1) Several Members have defected from the fraternity and have become part of some other group (nazis). Recently, several members in Europe have been killed while trying to take out the marks they have been sent to assassinate. All indications seem to be that the killer were the former members. Now it's up to some newer members to find the opponents who are taking out the other fraternity members.

(2) Adolf Hitler is a fraternity member who has gone rogue, and is now the leader of an entire nation. He is a threat, and his name has come up. The fraternity now has to assassinate Hitler, but there are two problems. One, he knows all their tricks as he was one of them, and with the guise of an incompetent artist, one of the best. Two, he is too public a figure, and if he is actually publically assassinated, the war will escalate further as the ally powers are blamed.

Wanted: (Comic) I can't quite do the comic as well. The main idea would basically that pulp era villains have taken over the world and secretly rule through their weaponry, fighting skills, and advanced technology. if you wanted to get creative and turn it into a campaign, the pcs could always be the first new pulp heroes, signifying the return of heroes, and attempt to defeat the fraternity.

Mystery Men

Mystery Men: The name seems to work in itself if you want to keep it as is at least. :D However:

In a world where names like Indiana Jones and Rick O'Connell are known as great heroes, there is in one city a small group of individuals who wish to make their own names known as heroes, though they seem to be lacking some skill or such to become well known.

When a mad scientist is released from confinement and the city's greatest hero disappears, it is now up to this less then impressive team to save the city themselve. Though they may need some help from their own, rather eccentric inventor.

Most of the MM could be pulparized without too much trouble, I think.

Except possibly for the Spleen - he kind of worries me.

The Pig Bride

Ten years ago, a diplomat's spoiled son got lost in the Korean mountains. On the verge of starvation, he found a cabin. A feast was set out, but the boy was told he could only eat if he agreed to marry a girl who was wearing a pig mask. Being quite young, the boy let his hunger overcome his confusion and wariness. Shortly after a quick ceremony and devouring delicious food, the boy fell asleep, and when he awoke was back with his parents. Over the years, he decided that the event was a dream brought on by hunger and loneliness.

Now, the diplomat's son is attending an exclusive (but co-educational) private school. He's still rather spoiled, but handsome and wealthy, so many of the girls at the school are ga-ga for him. Sadly, Sonny isn't interested in "modern", assertive women (adjust to suffragette, flapper or whatever the thirties has for modern girls); he's only attracted to the modest and demure Doris ("Dodo"). She seems to be interested in him, too, but they are both rather shy about romance, so it's going slowly.

Then the Pig Bride shows up, ready to consummate her marriage to Sonny. She's still wearing that mask, and is accompanied by a taciturn Amazon bodyguard. Sonny doesn't take this very well, especially when Pig Bride insists on being near him at all times. (His best buddy and roommate, who everyone thought was "light in the loafers" seems considerably more comfortable with the girls.) Worse, Sonny's parents tell him they expect him to fulfill the marriage deal, but won't explain why.

At least part of the reason is that Things Man Was Not Meant To Know are after Sonny, their motives in the matter murky. Pig Bride is able to protect Sonny, possibly because she's a human/Things crossbreed. It would certainly explain the mask.

Meanwhile, Dodo is trying to unravel the mystery of the Pig Bride herself--she's not who she appears to be, but a sleeper agent for a certain foreign power, and marrying Sonny is her ticket to status and diplomatic secrets.

Better and Dresden

Better the Mystery Men movie than the comic book series. I mean would you want to try to create a pulp version of a guy who has a six foot flaming carrot for a head? Or a group of vampire Chickens?

As for The Harry Dresden Files, it has been mentioned that it's easy to pulp, but no one actually has. If Susano wants to actually do it, feel free. I have put some thought into it myself and have come up with three different versions.

Stranger Than Fiction

In the mean time, continuing on. For some reason though, I seem to be getting multiple versions of the same thing.

Stranger Than Fiction:

Version 1: (pretty much a straight take) Harold Crick is an accountant quite skilled with numbers and seemingly obsessed with them and time saving. When he is sent to deal with the accounts of a bakery, he meets a baker girl who is also a flapper. As he works, he soon finds himself, hearing a disembodied voice narrating his actions. Shortly, he finds his life in danger and out of control. Now he starts to try out life and find new things, only to find out the person in charge is planning to kill him. Now that he is finally living, he has to find a way to keep hmself from getting killed. :help:

Version 2: (I like the idea behind this one more myself :D) Harold Crick is an accountant, with one of his clients being a well known and quite skilled detective :king:. One day while working on the account, Harold ends up being mistaken for the detective :hush:. Stuck between trying to solve a case he does not really understand, and attempt to clear up his identity as NOT the detective, two other things begin to occur. One, Harold meets a mysterious Femme Fatale who is quite skilled and independent. Two, Harold starts to hear a voice, that seems to be narrating his story in the manner of a detective novel. Now Harold has to deal with a dangerous attraction, and dangers to his own life. :help:

If you want to get more creative with it, instead of a novel, have it be a new radio series. Harold hears the voice only during certain times and the key events are aired regularly, either as they happen, or at the end of the day or week depending on when or how often the show is aired. This could make it quite strange, but very interesting.
