Edsel
Question for Storn Forgive me if this has been asked before, but I don't think I can read through 1875 previous posts to look for the answer. If I wanted Storn to do a new version of a pre-existing character is that acceptable? For example, say that there is a published NPC in one of the Hero books, or another source, whose existing art I am not satisfied with. Does it cause any problems (legal or otherwise) to commission Storn to work up a new version of that character? What about a character from a video game or animated feature? The reason I ask is because I am using a version of Rally Vincent in my Dark Champions game as an NPC. I am thinking of commissioning Storn to do a new version of her artwork. The manga images are nice but they really don't fit the genre the way we play it. I'd love to have a non-manga version character artwork of her. If the name of such a character were changed for purposes of the art would that make it acceptable?
Susano
Re: Storn's Art & Characters thread. I asked Storn to do pics of Midnite Maid and Kayli the destroyer from Ninja Hero. I did create them yes, but technically HERO owns them.
Enforcer84
Re: Storn's Art & Characters thread. Judging by the vast number of Fan Art comissions I've seen, I think Storn could do that for you.
RDU Neil
Re: Storn's Art & Characters thread. Storn has drawn and posted an updated Victrix for our game. She was a character from the classic VOICE module who ended up a long running NPC in our games. He drew her as she was now, a grown, mature woman rather than the young superheroine. No issues have ever come up with this. I don't think there are any issues unless you try to publish/sell works using the image/character. That is when you'd get in trouble. Just my opinion, though. Edsel
Re: Storn's Art & Characters thread. I guess I'll just send off the proposal and payment to Storn and see what he says. EDIT: Just sent the payment and the details to him. We'll see what happens.

Storn
Re: Storn's Art & Characters thread. RDU Neil's Secret Worlds as been a game that he has a tough time finding images for. There are plenty of modern anime or modern super hero stuff or even modern horror... but he has a very fine line to walk with that particular game. And I tried to do an image that was sorta in the "secret worlds" motif. I played around with doing washes, then scanning and color digital on top of watercolor washes. I'm not quite happy with it.... but it was interesting to try. Here is my redux on Victrix:

Remjin
Re: Storn's Art & Characters thread. Neat! A Storn drawn graphic novel? Excellent. Umm... but, to be a nitpicker, on the last page... the 2 frames before the last... you have the bodyguard blocking two swords with an axe in his right hand, and swinging a sword with his left. Then in the next panel, he has the axe in his left hand, sweeping the swords aside. Its the only panel where his axe is in his left hand... I enjoy the style of the artwork, though. Very neat. I always enjoy your work.

Mr. Manhattan
Re: Storn's Art & Characters thread. Wow! nice job, if that's an "attempt" I'd love to see you really trying. On the other hand my "attempts" actually took like attempts. I also like "La Blue Man" Is he an Ice powered super by any chance?

Remjin
Re: Storn's Art & Characters thread. I'm not really sure what his world is like, not being a long time poster on this forum, but I get the impression its supposed to be somewhat on the dark side, mysterious and pretty serious sort of thing? I don't know how you do your art, Storn, since I'm no artist... but you mentioned watercolors and digital, and from seeing some of your other stuff, could you maybe work in something similar to the old oriental ink paintings style maybe? I don't know how that works, exactly, but it seems to be nothign more than inks used like watercolors with the diffusion and such to create shades of color. If you could render characters in that style and perhaps use the positive/negative types of fields of like maybe a Sin City kind of artwork, or something in that vein of "suggestion of details" versus actual detail, that might be a good look. *shrug* Like I said, no idea how that would come together, closest to art I get is painting miniatures and drooling on other people's great work. Ugh, so gonna commission a pic soon...

Storn
Re: Storn's Art & Characters thread. I'm still screwing around for a "Secret Worlds" style. I still need edgy, modern... this is going back to color, although I kinda like the style of tinted color over the blue scale stuff. so, it is closer to what I am looking for. I think. Experiments to continue. Storn
Re: Storn's Art & Characters thread. ANNOUNCEMENT: Okay, I have gotten through my backlog of private commissions. I have one floating for Death Tribble, and one floating for RDU Neil. But I am going to be going to Origins, will be gone as of Thursday, probably back in studio, Tuesday the 4th. If some of you haven't gotten your commission, contact me please. I had such a backlog there for awhile, it got kinda screwy in timing of which ones came first. But I hope I got everyone. If you are thinking of getting a commission, my July & early August are going to be busy, but I can probably squeeze in a few. Thanks to all of you who support my art and thank you for being patient as I get these done. Here is Edsel's Dark Champions character, Irene.
