We Screwed Up, Please Help Us...

Tim and Eddie are a pair of bumbling lackeys of a local crime boss (think the Abbot and Costello of gangsters). Their boss recently had the less-than-dynamic duo escort his teenage daughter to the mall for some shopping, when members of a (far nastier) rival gang grabbed the girl and took off with her. Their dilemma is this: If they try to get the boss's daughter back themselves, the rival gangsters will most likely kill them; and on the other hand, if they have to go back to the boss to tell him something bad happened to "Daddy's Little Princess" on account of their stupidity, they'll be damned lucky if all he does is kill them. Naturally, the two pathetic losers have come to your character to beg for help.

Regardless of her father's profession she is an innocent in trouble. I may as well have the assistants help to make them look good as well. No point depriving a perfectly good crime boss of his incompetent henchmen. Of course if the mission goes South in a big way you will likely get the blame and a new Hunted.

My current Necessary Evil Champions crew would probably help out - to garner some favours for future use.

Makeshift, the gadgeteer leader, has a web of 'street level' contacts; this would just be another one earned.

Hellbent, the speedster, just likes to jerk people around in a humiliating fashion.

Mother Lode, the metallic brick, would just go 'M1 Abrahms' on the Big Bad. 800 kgs of living steel ain't gonna be impressed by MAC-10s.

All of my characters would let the henchmen tell their boss that the only reason hir daughter got kidnapped was because I assumed that the henchmen were up to no good and started questioning them. Then me and the Supervillain would team up with every single other superhero or villain and go thundering after the kidnappers. I wouldn't even stop the Supervillain from killing them if he wanted to. In my games, you DO NOT touch family. Anyone's family. Not even your own archnemesis.

All of my heroes would rescue the girl. Differences follow.

Volt - Rescue the girl. Lecture the lackeys on going straight and help them if they do. Otherwise, they are on their own. Turn them into the police if they have a record. If possible he'd try to get the girl away from her father legally. If he can't do the above and he can do what follows - he'd lecture the crime lord.

Olorin - First he'd laugh. Then rescue the girl. The thugs would owe him big. He'd cover up their ineptitude, weave a tale and get present the kidnappers hogtied to the big boss to get a favor. "I thought you'd want to take your own revenge. Enjoy!"

Black Tiger - Rescue the girl. Turn in the thugs to the police if they have records. Beat up the kidnappers and turn them in to the police.

Leadman - See Black Tiger - plus return the girl to the crime lord asking nothing in return.

Futurian - "You want me to do what?!?!" "O. K." Rescue the girl, send her home... and totally forget the incident (or about claiming favors.)

Skadi - There is the potential of a fight. She'll happily help out to rescue the girl becuase of this. And, if she finds out that the two of them have a record, she'll then punt them as well. Besides, there is a realitvely innocent person in distress here, and she would help them regardless. Still... fight!

Rescue the girl. Do nothing about the idiots unless there is a real reason to bring them in.

Until the whole thing goes pear-shaped, when it becomes time to start improvising. At the end of the day everyone will be dead, in prison, or will have left town.

Street level superheroics is basically pulp in disguise.

Its entirely not the girl's fault who her father is, no -- and if these guys are really as comedically bumbling as they are described, then apparently they aren't guilty of anything but misdemeanors. Save the girl, explain to the guys that shit like this will keep happening as long as they're in their current careers, and maybe next time I'll be busy fighting off an alien invasion and not be available to save you, would you like some applications to the local community college?

All characters: Make sure "Daddy's Little Girl" is as innocent/naive as everyone's claiming. Maybe she's manipulating matters as a possible coup against her father.

Little on the wary side but it is a good idea. I can see it now, you try to rescue her and she orders her men to shoot.

Re: We Screwed Up, Please Help Us...

Can't imagine why. Even if the girl is Azula's understudy, surely *we're* not the original targets of the scheme, are we? How could she predict we'd become involved? (The OP said these guys are bumbling idiots, long known to us to be bumbling idiots. I presume that means they are unable to convincingly lie, so, not her agents sent to lure us in, unless there's some notable bait-and-switch going on by the DM.)

So, why break cover for *us*? If its her dad she's aiming at, the proper thing to do is let us rescue her, stay a grateful ingenue, and try a new intrigue next month.

Note: Kaian would actually be snarkily lecturing her with the above reasoning if she actually did do it. "I have been in this business for a very long time. I am more than used to attempted treachery. But there is a difference between attempted treachery and pointless attempted treachery, and I find the latter extremely annoying. If you're going to sell yourself out, then why so cheaply? Honestly, choosing to walk a path that requires relentless and unwavering competence to survive, without bothering to learn the slightest amount of self-discipline or foresight first -- why do you people keep doing that? They're letting just anyone be evil these days."

Frosty Bob- "so is she hot?" Note: Best to say yes (lie if necessary). Bob will be more likely to help, although getting to shoot up a place brings its own "rewards" for Bob

Badger: reluctantly help. End of thoroughly disappointed at the day of his life he will never get back as a result.

Re: We Screwed Up, Please Help Us...

Vitus would probably bang his head against a wall for a while. Banging other people's heads against walls will come later. Not only does his vital work to recreate his homeworld keep getting interrupted by people coming begging for help with their petty problems, but now the bad guys are coming looking for a free handout too? Does a 7ft tall hyena with a temper like mercury fulminate really look like a soft touch?

But he'd still go along with it, because there's a kid involved. Despite frequent threats to use them as spell ingredients, Vitus actually likes kids. And there's the opportunity to beat seven kinds of shit out of the kidnappers, and if they complain, tell them the other option is being handed over to the mob boss.

Zero would probably help too, altho there's a strong chance that so elective memory surgery will be be required to prevent a mob war. Everybody involved will simply forget that anything unusual happened. They all just stayed home and watched re-runs of The Sopranos, or something.
