Re: Create a Villain Theme Team!

Just to show that these don't need to be complex concepts...

Jack Higgins was always a thug, but when he picked up that magic axe he knew nobody could stop him. He started out his supercriminal as Lumber Jack, but on joining The Numbers he's been known as Long Division -- because that's what he'll do to your body!

Re: Create a Villain Theme Team!

This is one that popped into my head today for some reason.

The Artist formerly known as MC Formerly a small time rap artist. Until his mutant powers manifested. That power basically is the power to teleport instantly to wherever he desires on the planet. (as in E=MC squared, lightspeed, that type stuff)

Note: In my mind's eye, it made me think of Raiden's teleporting from Mortal Kombat.

Everything needs something to keep going. Tyler Gird has the ability to make that thing vanish at will. That's why he's called Minus.

Bo Lightfoot can make anything move with friction. He uses that for speed and taking things apart with his hands. He wanted a cool name like Bo Slick, or Frictionless Man. Instead they named him Subtraction.

Re: Create a Villain Theme Team!

The least math-friendly member of the Numbers is James Smith, a man who was always at odds with math.

Smith was often mistaken for others -- I guess he just has that kind of face -- so it really shouldn't have been a surprise when his mutant powers manifested and he became able to shapeshift to look like anybody he wants. He can even alter his height, weight, coloration (skin, eye, hair, even teeth) to make his appearance anything he desires. As Expression, he is often the Numbers' "inside man" on a given crime.

Mine makes eight, so the next one to post gets to pick the next team.

Re: Create a Villain Theme Team!

Ask Scalar about space-time translations or Tesla's scalar weapons. Go ahead. First she'll adjust her glasses. Next she'll explain that scalar is a term used in mathematics as well as physics. Finally she'll reach out her long, thin fingers and take hold of the vectors that make up your body. And move them.

Scalar insists that she's never turned anything into anything different from what it already was. She just engages in a little "harmless homeomorphism".

Though she's certainly capable of turning someone inside out, she rarely does. It's time consuming and difficult. And people rarely sit still for it. It's really much simpler to change objects than people. One of her favorite tricks is to take a pair of Möbius strips and turn them into a single Klein bottle -- a bottle with no inside or outside.

Note: Scalar can be built in many ways. It is not necessary for her to have the Transform Power. Changing the way things look might just be part of the sfx of some other Power.

Re: Create a Villain Theme Team!

I was writing while BoE was so I'm rather surprised to be picking the next team.:o

Let's try something a little different...

Team Name: The Margin

Theme: What do you do when you're a little bit different? Not different enough to strike fear or inspire awe in most folks. Just different enough to make you feel like a freak. If you're one of these people, you band together to form The Margin. You feel marginalized. You're on the margin between human and truly superhuman. And now you figure it's time to cash in a little by committing crimes on the margin. Do a little damage, make a little money, and never make the front page.

All members of The Margin are normal human villains with a single (that's one, folks) metahuman Characteristic, Skill, Perk, Talent, or Power that is most clearly and definitely not normal. The "edge" each member possesses makes them quite dangerous to normal human police officers, but isn't enough to let them go toe-to-toe with a superhero.

Number: 6

Re: Create a Villain Theme Team!

The criminal Battery (as in "Assault and...") is a former boxer who was kicked out of the ring after his metagene was detected. Battery looks like a dozen miles of bad road, mostly due to poundings he sustained while boxing, and he talks a lot like Sly Stallone in Rocky. (This is not an affectation, but rather due to brain damage he's taken from getting beaten on.)

Battery has the unique ability to almost never get knocked out (in other words, his STUN is over 1000), though he still takes physical (BODY) damage as normal. He has been beaten with billy clubs, tasered, and gassed without falling down once. He wishes he could find some other way to make a living, but is resigned to being the cops' punching bag when the Margin goes on a job.

Re: Create a Villain Theme Team!

Kevin Wirth calls himself Rusty because of his ability to instantly destroy anything made of metal. Bullets and knives can't harm him (though clubs and fists can do a pretty good job of it), handcuffs can't hold him (unless you use the plastic variety), and solid steel safes and bank vault doors crumble under his touch. His name may not be very creative, but he's very flexible with how he uses his power.

Randy Venture aka Dodge may be only so-so when it comes to being on the offense. His DCV, on the other hand, is inhumanly insane, even to the point he can avoid area of effect attacks if needed. Of course, that still only count against physical attacks. One good shot from a mentalist and he's on his back clucking like a chicken.

Cindy Free Parr has the ability to go anywhere at any time but not by teleporting. She can just walk in any place without being stopped, be in the right place to catch a ride, have the right equipment to accomplish a job if she needs it.

That's why her friends call her Freeway.

Paul Spreight is the Reflector. If something comes at him like a bullet or an energy bolt he can turn it back the way it came and worse for the cops, if it is directed at the team he can redirect it back at the cops. Useful against water cannon, bullets and energy blasts. Not so good against a punch to the face. Paul is also a coward and will run if someone looks like coming at him.

Re: Create a Villain Theme Team!

Andy Abrahams is Ampere. He has the power to unleash electric energy. To do so, he must touch an object or person. Unfortunately all his physical abilities are still normal. He has the speed, strength and reflexes of a typical man in his early thirties. Things get worse, when the electric energy inside his body was not transferred for quite a while. Then the elctric currents become so strong that they interfere with his nerves and brain. He starts to forget things or cannot control his body movements. Sometimes he even has a seizure.

Next team: Hangtime

five robbers and burglars, all with acrobatic skills and superleap ability

Re: Create a Villain Theme Team!

Dylan Jackson was a basketball player who was looking at the end of his pro career. Really, he wasn't all that old - he was only in his 30s - but the knee and elbow injuries were taking their toll, and he just couldn't jump as high as he could before. So he went to the underworld seeking a way to extend his career. An ARGENT scientist offered to use Dylan as an experimental subject, something that was aiming to not only repair muscle damage but also increase the elasticity of muscles and tendons.

From ARGENT's standpoint, the experiment went even better than expected. Dylan, however, thought that it completely destroyed his career. Sure, with care and effort he could probably hide the fact that he could jump dozens of meters with minimal effort. But the changes to his leg muscles turned his normal run into a bouncing stride that cleared several meters with each step. He also discovered that the changes also gave him faster reaction time and better balance, but that didn't matter to him. His pro ball career was at an end.

He fell on bad times, and eventually resorted to crime (mostly upper-story B&E work) to maintain his somewhat extravagant lifestyle. He was on one such crime when he encountered other members of Hangtime. They compared notes, and soon he was their newest member, Jump Shot. Going back to ARGENT, he commissioned a basketball made of an incredibly tough but amazingly elastic polymer, and has practiced using it for both defense (deflecting attacks at range) and offense (bouncing it at opponents, often from an unexpected direction, and then having it bounce back to him).

Pogo is a punk, pure and simple. A Brit with a shocking green mohawk and piercings in his face, he's developed a way to turn his super-pogoing into a brutal and effective way of fighting. Not to mention, the metal piercings in his face give him a wicked headbutt. He's probably the most aggressive member of the team, willing to keep fighting and hurting others even when the rest of Hangtime wants to withdraw.

Re: Create a Villain Theme Team!

The Cat and the Canary were the premier burglars until The Canary was gunned down by the police when he was exiting a hotel with his girlfriend. The word went out that The Cat gave him up and that was it. The Cat disappeared. Over 60 years later, someone else has taken on the identity of The Cat. A planner and precision burglar they use the same tools and costume that the original did but there are modern twists. This Cat jumped on a rooftop from the street when suddenly surprised by police and slinked away, and no-one is sure whether this Cat is a man or woman. The face and shape is ambiguous as is the voice.

The Cat is a founder member and perhaps the most skilled of the group with access to computer skills and B+E skills both past and present but does not have the power to go toe to toe with most martialartists and paranormals. So they rely on gimmicks, gadgets and deception to get away and to win.

However the Cat will not tolerate attacks on avians except avians trying to attack Hangtime. Most of the time The Cat will choose the targets but allows the others their say before pointing out whether something would be too violent, too difficult or an obvous trap. The latter was proved when a rival group went for what appeared to be a peach of a job only to run into a SWAT team who took them down. Quoth The Cat 'If it looks easy, and particularly too easy, it's a trap. Nobody is that stupid.'

Re: Create a Villain Theme Team!

The unusual criminal known as The Elevator has the ability to turn his own or someone else's gravity on or off at will. (He cannot increase or decrease it incrementally -- It's either all or none.) Note that turning off gravity on a falling person doesn't automatically stop that person from falling at whatever velocity they were going, it just stops that person's downward velocity from accelerating even further.

The Elevator's signature move is to jump upwards after turning his own gravity off. And then, when he reaches whatever floor he's heading for, he turns on gravity just long enough to cancel his upward momentum. (He's gotten pretty good at this, allowing him to hover in place fairly well.) When it's time to drop back down, he uses a short enough burst of 1G to just start him falling, then immediately restores his zero-G state until he reaches the ground.

He's also gotten good at timing his "gravity off" attack on others, waiting until they are just pushing off in a run or, ideally, jumping upwards. Once they've risen far enough, he'll give them a short burst of normal gravity, and then back to zero gravity to keep them at a fairly steady altitude. Any battle involving The Elevator is likely to involve lots of people swimming through the air or floating around after pushing off buildings.

Note that his zero-gravity power, once turned on, will continue even if he is unconscious, so some foes are hesitant to shoot The Elevator for fear of getting stuck floating forever.

He's not the most acrobatic member of Hangtime, though he is getting better at tucking and rolling so he can kick off from walls and ceilings and floors to get where he wants to go.

Spring Heeled Jack

Ever wonder why the sightings in England lasted so many years? Well, the truth is that it was that the orginal past the title to his son, and it went on and on......that is until one day we came upon a time where there was no male heir to the title. The female heir retired the name and costume, and started her own legacy as one of the greatest burglars of the time.

Present time.

Jack Dobson has recovered a mysterious looking old costume in his grandfather's attic. On his deathbed, Grandpa told him the truth of the their family. So, after creating a copy of the tattered and falling apart costume.......a new burglar has joined the team.

That was the last one again?

Sorry, my first attempt was more Hero team appropriate.

New team: The Masters

8 high-level supervillains who have pooled their resources, to take over the world. (I was kind of Legion of Doom inspired, but different.)

Re: Create a Villain Theme Team!

What happens to the ultimate weapon when there are no more wars to fight ? You get rid of it ! Hurled through time and space he crash landed in the Indian Ocean and eventually came to India. Confused and disorientated, the Indian army and police were able to subdue and imprison him. However he imprinted on them and so adopted their features including caste mark. After a few years the being that has become known as Shiva escaped custody and began his reign of terror over the Indian subcontinent. But as time wore on Shiva realised that he needed help and perhaps he was not being ambitious enough. There was a whole world after all. So Shiva set out to find like minded villains he could work with. He will have India, Pakistan and all the way to Vietnam for himself.

Nowadays Shiva appears as a high caste Indian male about 6 feet tall almost perpetually smiling. Even when he is breaking your neck with one hand.

Shiva is a medium to high level brick with some martial arts power but takes an awful lot of physical, energy or mental damage to put down. His defenses are 'ungodly' as one person put it. He can't fly unaided nor does he possess movement powers but he can survive almost anything like Outer Space, Re-Entry, the Ocean Depths and Radiation. They'll inconvenience him but not kill him.

Shiva has a cult following, speaks English, French, Russian and the various Indian languages.

He does take a dim view of betrayal and will go to extreme lengths to punish those that do betray him.

Re: Create a Villain Theme Team!

Mood Master, born Alek Shannon was once a low-level empath until he fell into the hands of PSI. In an effort to make his powers more useful, they experimented with booster drugs and surgery. It worked a little too well, as the newly-rechristened mastermind briefly took over the group. Only a pre-arranged psychic dampener and their combined willpower was able to drive him off, and he's been at odds with PSI ever since.

Alek is able to sense and manipulate the emotions of anyone within a kilometer of him, read any thoughts connected to strong emotions (but only the strong emotion the victim is currently feeling,) and create hallucinations based on the emotional state he wants to induce. He can affect multiple people at once, creating a different effect in each, at the cost of becoming immobile as it takes considerably more concentration.

Mood Master's major weakness is a complete lack of physical prowess--he's relying on the other Masters for technology to counter this.

Re: Create a Villain Theme Team!

I wonder how he feels about the Children of Shiva villain team (and vice versa)...?

Akira Lucani was the bastard child of a Yakuza enforcer and a Mafia don's daughter. Disregarded by nearly everyone on both sides of his heritage, the only one who showed him any kindness was his maternal great-uncle Julius, who was considered crazy. Julius, however, wasn't crazy. What he was was a rather powerful sorcerer and he recognized the magical potential in Akira. He took the boy on as his eager apprentice. Akira proved to be an apt pupil, especially in the art of demonology.

However, his father's side came back to haunt him. The Yakuza decided to muscle in on the Mafia's control of the docks. In the war, Julius was assassinated. Akira's grandfather then coldly took this as an opportunity to kill the young man. But he underestimated the dark powers Akira had already mastered...

When it comes to summoning, controlling, banishing or destroying demons (regardless of mythology), few equal Akira Lucani. Possessed now by an inhuman rage and backed by unholy minions, he will see both the Mafia and Yakuza utterly destroyed -- and then the world kneeling at his feet in fear.

Re: Create a Villain Theme Team!

The Children of Shiva tend to keep away from Shiva. Kamadeva saw something after strenuous efforts to penetrate Shiva's mind that persuaded him/her it would be a BAD idea to push it. That and the fact Shiva embarrassed Savitr by calling him his son and cheering him on during one of the Children's exploits. Durgha and Shiva worked out a deal where they stayed out of eah other's way although Durgha did say that if Shiva was to keep doing the daddy's boy bit to Savitr, it would not bother the rest of the team in the slightest.

Re: Create a Villain Theme Team!

Canaan When the ancient Hebrews were taking over Jericho, a desperate Canaanite king hired an Egyptian court magician to create a kind of "ultimate warrior". Using, the body of a recently fallen elite warrior base the magician began his chanting. Unfortunately, something went wrong, and Canaan was born. It seemed quite demonic. Immediately it turned on his handlers killing all the Canaanites at the ceremony leaving only the magician. The Magician sealed him in a nearby cave, and cast a spell of eternal sleep upon the monster.

Thousands of years later. Eventually someone (as always) accidently unsealed the monster. Who went on a rampage. The Masters (and probably most likely Akira) quickly descended upon the location and took control of him (thanks likely to Akira's magic).

His appearance is that of a massive muscled huge figure typical of comic book bricks. His skin color is the color of very dark black like something that has been burned over by flames. His eyeballs (no pupils) is a dark red.

He is MASSIVELY strong. And while he doesnt seem to remember his life as the Canaanite warrior. He seems to remember some skills in fighting with ancient weapons to some degree. Though, it tends to be by using a discarded piece of long scrap metal as a spear and similar improvisations. Almost impossible to damage. And regenerates quickly when he does get wounded. Surprisingly quick for his size. And seems overly susceptible to bright lights.

Although the Masters have gotten him under control now. He seems to still have limited intelligence. And only can speak in only occasional simple words.

Re: Create a Villain Theme Team!

How did it come to this ? Looking down from the top of the Golden Gate Bridge and awaiting the nerve to cast off into oblivion. This is what the villains do to the heroes but not the other way around surely ?

Once upon a time Dr Despair was a villain to fear and of the verge world toppling until the advent of the Bay City Brigade. The Brigade defeated Dr Despair continually and to the Dr's own despair they seemed to do it with ease and they seemed to take pleasure in humiliating the villain who only just got away by the skin of ther teeth. Each time it got worse until the Brigade's leader The Bay Boy unmasked Dr Despair and found it was a woman. And he laughed at her. Her face appeared on television and the papers. The only luck she had was that in court the charges did not stick because The Brigade did not have a warrant or they did not turn up to give evidence (Saving the World is more Important you know !) and they could not prove that the woman in the suit was the same person for each of Dr Despair's appearances.

For ten years it became a fact of life. If you wanted to prove you were a hero, you had to beat Dr Despair first and that was kind of easy. Foiling a liquor store hold up was harder. Even when Dr Despair avoided doing anything The Brigade found her and The Bay Boy made her life a misery. The straw that broke the camal's back was when she tried to go straight and help people only for the Brigade to turn up beat her semi-conscious and for The Bay Boy to tell her she did not deserve to have a shot at redemption.

And so Sandra Cartwright aka Dr Despair looked down at the cold inviting water. She had shown them all at first. Developing all sorts of gadgets that people said would never work and then setting out to prove it to the small minded fools by terorising them as a supervillain. But now her spirit was crushed and it was time to end it all.

'You know my dear, you really don't want to do that. Can you recommend a good restaurant in town, my colleagues and need to talk to you about a proposition'.

It's not every day when you are contemplating suicide at the top of the Golden Gate bridge when three strangers, an Asian Indian, an Oriental crossbreed and a white guy appear floating in the air beside you. Shiva's charm got Sandra off the bridge. Sandra needed some persuading that the three strangers were serious about recruiting her after her run of bad luck, after all what could she offer them ? Simple. Technology. Shiva wanted a tech head and she was it. But Shiva stated that he believed that Sandra's bad luck against the Brigade was suspicious and so he had Akira look into it. And thus it was that Sandra found out she had been under a curse that meant she could not defeat the Brigade. A good guy wizard had cursed her because of her technology and she had never known it. So Shiva made Sandra a deal. If he and his colleagues could remove the curse and help her defeat the Brigade she would join the group. With nothing to lose Sandra accepted. After all during the meal several hero types had turned up and had been one punched or knocked out by the three strangers.

Shiva paid a visit on the wizard and knocked him into the middle of next week. Using artifacts that he liberated from said wizard (who would have sensed and been prepared for Akira), Akira was able to break the curse.

Then the Brigade came calling and found Sandra Cartwright had some new friends. The fight was short and surprising. The Brigade was utterly defeated and finally Sandra could get revenge.

One member of the brigade is in a waking coma. His body is paralysed but his mind is active although he cannot communicate at all. Another was banished to another dimension. A third had their spirit swapped with a criminal who was in jail. Then the criminal went on a spree in the hero's body, was arrested and sent to jail. A fourth only appears during the three days of the Full Moon. A fifth believes that their powers are gone and wanders the earth powerless. The Bay Boy was turned into a toad and is kept in a tank in Sandra's quarters.

Sandra is now known as Catharsis as the name Dr Despair is nothing short of a joke. She is the tech expert for the group. They gave her a shot at being the villain she once was and could be again. She gets on well with Shiva who is charm personified, Akira who shares a bullied history and Mood Master as she has given him gadgets to protect himself.

Shiva has pointed out to Akira that relying on his magic alone could be their downfall. Similarly relying on Catharsis's technology solely. Mix the two and what you get will be the real triumph. That and a headache for the people trying to stop you. Sandra see this as a challenge and something she never considered possible. As she said to Akira, 'If we get this to work then there is nothing we cannot do'

Re: Create a Villain Theme Team!

Let's refer to it as Tome. Why not? It is, after all, a big book. Not "nothing but a big book", mind you. More "something and a big book" if you catch my meaning.

Is the book the product of magic or technology? Yes.

Is the book sentient? Well . . . sort of. Sentient like you and me? No. It's more like a robot. Or a weapon. With a sense of humor. Dark humor.

How does it work? Simple. Open the book. It's a picture book. Lots of pictures. The book opens and opens and then it is the picture. And after a while it closes and closes and it is the book again.

Can the book open itself? Never has before...

Can you pick which picture you open to? You can try. Sometimes that works. Sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes the pictures have changed. Or moved to different pages. And once you've got the book open . . . well, it's not a book anymore, is it?

What sort of pictures are in the Tome? All sorts. Big beasts. Landscapes. Buildings. Guns. Things that cannot be named. You know, the usual.

Tome is lots and lots of Multiform. Some forms are built on the standard template, some are automatons, some are bases, some are vehicles...
