World Creation Superdraft 2: July 2018

Recommended Posts

One day, Ut-Mark considered the world. They loved what they saw, even is parts of it was not as wild and untamed as they would like. All peoples apart from its own ordered the lands, lived ordered lives, died in order, killed in order during their many wars. Ut-Mark could tell that the folks felt that they missed a little bit of disorder in their lives, a bit of variation, a certain unpredictability apart from just the way life and history developed. So Ut-Mark invented beer.

Ut-Mark's gift to civilization: Alcohol!

Ah, so it's just what Amora's faithful believe happened and other faiths aren't required to take it as canon/history.

Good.

It might be the several faiths believe it or have variations on it. The point is underestimating the gods as a whole and one who is thought of as nothing by the, shall we say, mortal victim taking revenge on said mortal.

This is easier to do with The Goddess of Love than the Goddess of War.

It also shows a kinship between the gods and one doing something for another.

That's not my complaint. I'll PM you about it later if you like.

Anuanu proclaims Its second Subordinate Domain: Mirrors, reflections, and illusions.

Not exactly light (or its opposite, Darkness), since sounds and ocean waves can also be reflected; not exactly magic (or its mundane cousin, engineering), since both of those individually, as well as the two together, can be employed to mislead the senses; not exactly trickery (or its opposite, true insight), for only in the mirror can a mortal hope to see themselves as others see them, and yet they see with the limitations of their own eyes and their own cognition and so be seduced into believing that which is not real.  These things lie at the intersections of what is seen and what is not, what is understood and what is not, and what is fervently desired and what is most wretchedly feared.

The simplest mirror has Darkness behind and light in front, but it is the interface between the two which makes the reflection.  The image might be real, or not; the image may be erect, or reversed; and the information in the image may be derived as much from the mind of the beholder as it is from the image itself; but that need not mean it is false.

The stark light of the Suns is usually too strong for the eye to withstand without blinking, and the harsh illumination of Truth can be too much for a wounded soul to endure without despair.  Darkness is famously ungenerous with Its knowledge, for all It grants a respite where the mind and eye can recover.  But there is a way between the two poles.  A thing and its opposite cast shadows of the same shape, and an erroneous conclusion can be drawn from the clearest view, and piercing understanding can come from a glimpse distorted nearly beyond recognition.

It is these uncertainties, and how to produce them, and yet think through them, with them, and despite them, that Anuanu can teach.

Of all the gods and goddesses it was Amora who brought forth something that could be used as a universal food for it was she who created Wheat. Sailors could not travel very far with just fish and soldiers and others needed food for their journeys particularly a food that they could make. How she came up with the idea is a secret that only Dee-Eli knows but the followers of Roy and Aerobell honour her for it as it allows them to travel further.

Ut-Mark's followers made beer from it which gave pleasure to mortals which greatly pleased Amora.

It grows in cultivated fields and in the wild which Gravitus and Brother Chaos like. It needs darkness and light and is dependent on the weather which means that Anuanu, Yshic and Roy are pleased.

Vyago's followers discover it in unexpected places.

So, You're inventing the telescope?

The palindromedary says it looks like a reflecting telescope at that. Let us reflect upon that.

Maybe, but probably not.  An infinite world means either that half the cosmos cannot be seen, or the geometry is more complicated than I am used to thinking about.

The geometry of night and day is quite complicated, also.

And in those days, the god of secrets created schools to manipulate powers of mind and soul. Insular and private, they advanced terrible arts and competed fiercely with one another, and of course brought terrible penalties to any student impudent enough to share techniques with others.

Gift to Civilization: Psionic/Chi Martial Arts

That is, the gamut of psionic abilities are attained the same way extreme martial arts are. Some manage to throw a telekinetic Hadouken or wield a psi blade, others just fuel mightier/faster/more precise blows. Use your most terrible imagination.

Arepo used Her most wonderful imagination.

And She imagined that as all mortals, by whatever God's hand formed, were formed from Her own substance, all must have the potential to be in rapport with one another.

And She imagined that in the secret schools in which mortals learned the powers of their minds all shared in the technique of meeting mind to mind, for the only way to teach another such arts involves allowing them into one's own mind to perceive how it is done.

And She imagined that, indeed, the trick of Mindspeech was so generally useful, it could not be kept secret forever, and in time it became not a forbidden secret art but a common skill.

Mindspeech surmounts the language barrier, and is a boon to trade and diplomacy. It enables individuals to communicate secretly even in a crowd, and is a boon to intrigue and conspiracy.

it is harder to lie mind to mind than with the voice, but it is no guarantee of truth, still less of forthrightness. It is easier between those who know each other well, harder with strangers. It is easiest when there is physical touch, and falls off rapidly with distance; only a powerful and disciplined mind may call out to another across a kingdom's length. it is only a tool of communication, not of interrogation; to pry out thoughts a person has no wish to share is a different art.

And because She is a Goddess, as She imagines so it comes to pass.

This is My chosen INTERFERENCE.

Lucius,

Do you want a reminder of what your choices were for Arepo last year and if so I can repeat them on your choices for this year.

I expect to repeat some, but not all, of my previous choices.

It is a city state.  Picture an expanded Las Vegas.  Includes casinos, coliseums, event locales, bars, motels etc.

Yay! We have lovely spaces for development among 7 city states in Gelmir if you want to take one of those slots and flesh it out.

I am two picks behind. I am going to choose the Armorsons as my chosen people.  They are amphibious ,  superstrong, master of the water and native wildlife, and general protectors of their reaches from the surface. Essentially Percy Jackson and Aquaman combined with deep ones.

I am going to give my gift to civilization as the Dark Fleet of Coranon. Sailors have problems, people drowning on the shore, a whale attack wrecks a village. You can opt to join the Dark Fleet until you have fulfilled your time of service and are released.  The time of service usually means when the last person you know has forgotten you.
