  1. I like this idea if you’re running more Heroic level.
  2. @XtraSaltySalt, welcome aboard. As LL noted Hero System Martial Arts book is a great resource. If someone has access to Champions Complete, look at Green Dragon. He has a Stance Multipower, similar to what @BhelliomRahl said. Remember though that this is Hero System so if you don’t like the build you can (and should) change it. Now though for something simpler, remember that SFX is separate from Mechanics so you can buy one maneuver and define it several ways. I.e Offensive Strike can be described as a Side Kick, Elbow Strike or Roundhouse Punch. Now the rule is that if you have Knowledge Skill in each style, you don’t have to rebuy Offensive Strike each time, the skill covers the special effect part. Talk to you GM and see if he is going to give a Surprise Bonus when you switch Styles.
  3. @Doc Democracy you’re correct. What Aaron Allston points out is that by the Rules, 5th in this case. Hero system does not limit the amount of Disadvantages a character can take. The GM can impose Campaign limits and the book also suggest limits but it isn’t hard coded. Now it seems that with 6th, it is.
  4. I believe that Mattingly wanted to he able to push one, slap another and punch a third at the same time using AoE STR. Selective wouldn’t handle that.
  5. Right and no one I think is arguing against that. The point that is though is there becomes a practical amount that a group can have and still be feasible for what you want to do. So I think you should have a total amount of Complications. Let the player decide if they want to swap out or modify Template Complications. Going back to Subject to Orders, perhaps the plater really doesn’t like this Complication but agrees to maybe a 5 pt version. That I think is acceptable..
  6. On page 37 of the 6e v1 pg 37 it states that the Complications of a Template do count against the Total Matching Complications.
  7. @LoneWolf, FWIW, I increased Base Points to reduce Disadvantage Points for the 4th ed I just ran. Perhaps but I would think its implied that those Template Complications fill in the characters Total Complications. Well that’s how I handle it in 6th. I’m sure that there has to be verbiage on it one way or the other and with the “if the GM decides….” Clause there too.
  8. @Sketchpad, why not just make Template Complications optional? That way the player gets tonchoose which one he prefers?
  9. Interestingly I believe where 6th ed got its idea for matching complications is from Champions 5th Sourcebook. Allston talks about the problems of Disadvantage Point system. And the problem is that if you start out with a higher point total then typically the Disadvantage total has to increase. But then that amount makes the character less practical for two reasons. 1) With that many points, the character is a mess. How many Hunteds or Psychological or other Disadvantages do you have to take? How many double dipping Disadvantages have you seen? 2) Then the practical part of roleplaying. With that many Disadvantages that character could be an attention hog or you really don’t play those Disadvantages. His suggestion? Increase the Base points so you can focus on the Disadvantages that are really worth roleplaying. Sounds like 6th to me.
  10. @mattingly, is what you’re describing really a Multi-Attack?
  11. I was wrong as to which character has that sword, it wasn’t Fire. Based on my faulty knowledge now this time, the T-porting back does require a new phase. So the character is deprived of it for a little length of time. Depending of course when it was disarmed and speed of the opponent(s). Green Dragon disarms him and GD most likely (can’t remember if said character is SPD 5 or 6) has a phase coming up again before the character can summon back the blade. Also if a Speedster does a Flying Grab, he could move the sword out of T-port range in a single phase. Also (and I probably didn’t make this clear), said character has to he conscious to summon it. Therefore if he’s Stunned, someone can remove it and move it far enough to not make it summonable.
  12. Hi (Fire) from the villain group Yoshoo has a sword defined as OIF because though you can disarm it. It teleports back into the villains hand. Then range was 10” if I remember correctly. Btw my brother has a modified version of Powrhouse (same stats mostly except his Growth is at a lower level) and he wanted to break Sledge’s hammer. I said sure cause I wanted to see those rules in action.
  13. Thanks! I should’ve pointed it out that it was Breakable.
  14. If I understand it, you cannot per the rules Disarm an OIF. However in combat you can target an OIF to break it. Am I right?
  15. No big deal @Lord Liaden. I didn’t know how to quite phrase the question. 😁
  16. Hello All, The title doesn’t quite capture the question. As many of you know some of the characters have been around for many editions if not all. However what some may not realize is that a character say Cheshire Cat is not identical (even allowing for edition change) in all editions. So have any of you ran (or running) x edition but use y version of the character? (Naturally this version is conformed to the edition you are running). I did just exactly that. I had available to me 1st ed Brick which I updated to 4th ed to run a scenario of Vipers Nest. During the game (I also used Cheshire cat) though my buddy is made a comment that Cheshire Cat is going to use his Ego Attack. 3rd ed CC has one, 4th ed doesn’t.
  17. @Tech, I just thought of this idea. Look at other character’s powers and see if any tickle your fancy. Then ask “can I use sonic sfx” to the extent that your feel comfortable with. For example, Tunneling has been bought for Bricks to punch a hole in the wall or rip the door off its hinges. I really can see this as a sonic power too. But say stretching, even with Doesn’t pass through real space, maybe not so much.
  18. I hear yay! I’m usually hard press when coming up with stuff on my own but when I look at other works, I’m like “that works! Why didn’t I think of it?” Did anyone mention Missile Deflection? That’ll work. How about TK? You hit the right vibration and you can “float” it to where you want? I bought a copy specifically for that reason!
  19. Or for 6th its called Champions Powers (iirc). And if you have access to older stuff, Howler has sonic powers-singing or at least voice and I’ll throw in Vibron because though technically his is vibration, I feel that’s close enough to sound to work.
  20. Argggh ! I cannot figure out how to link this post. Its labeled Follow-up on Combined Attack by slaughterj June 6, 2014. In the rules question. However Steve Long does answer it! So if someone has the mojo could you repost it here? Short answer is unless otherwise by GM equipment shouldn't use Combined Attack.
  21. I agree with Hugh that Combined attacked should’ve been explained better. I did notice though that Combined Attack can have any and all restrictions as a Multiple Attack.
  22. 6E2 pg 181 In the interest of game balance, common sense, or dramatic sense, the GM may forbid any uses of the double bought equipment that he deems inappropriate. That statement right there eliminates most of most of the arguments posted.
