  1. I’ve just finished book one of the Condor Hero series and my wife got me book 2! Its cool reading about all those tropes from the original.
  2. I got a new copy of 4th ed of the BBB because an old friend wants to get back into with his kids and these are rules he’s most familiar with. My original copy is showing its age and its been in a binder for 20years. So when I got my new copy, I thought it was a mistake! I don’t remember the book being so thin compared to later editions!
  3. Isn’t that just very Tolkein? Elves are leaving the earth for the West? The dwarves dig into their mines but aren’t prolific and the Hobbits literally outgrow themselves? So they’re already dying.
  4. Allowing a reroll still doesn’t guarantee success either. So you still can have that adversity. Lord knows I’ve had run of bad rolls that it wouldn’t matter how many HAPs I had.
  5. I just heard on Dungeoncraft at someone wrote up a neat houserule cheap PDF called Luck Dice. Basically everytime you whiff you earn a luck die which you can cash in later to do something epic, if you live that long.
  6. I believe I heard of Vulcans referred to as Space Elves.
  7. HAP seems to be what Karma is in FASERIP.
  8. Wow, as I was reading Dean comment before this, I thought of the exact thing. Now, should I make the gnomes as small as depicted or keep then halfing sized? The halfling’s ability to hide could be a natural illusion. Btw, I was going through the BBB and the wood elves and dwarves packages seem a lot simpler than the Fantasy Hero 4th. I didn’t though do a thorough comparison.
  9. Well as a surprise my wife got me a copy and it came last night. I have only been able to skim it so far. The one thing that I like that’s useful are the pre built Backgrounds. I’m horrible at these things and I would normally skimp on perks and related skills. However having a package already included, its easy to plop down the points. I did notice that the range of character points for this is 350-450 points. And almost everything is in multiples of 5-easy math. When I get a chance I’m going to write up a few characters and see how it goes. Guidelines are -try to keep points closer 350 pts., ideally 300 pts. as I prefer simple characters. -Not to be so hide bound as to make every character equal points but at least for combat relatively equal. -Use my minis as inspiration for builds. So if I have a unique mini could I just whip one up? -Make a Baseline archetype and then see if I can vary it and how easily its done. -
  10. Have you guys heard of Supergame? Its by Jay Hartlove. Its a point buy and in an interview he said some of the Champions guys play in his game and took notes and adjusted their game. He claims he wasn’t in it for the money. On a whim I got the classic reprint. I haven’t tried to make a character nor run a battle. Interestingly though his characters start with 250 points. 🤔
  11. @Doc Democracy, I would still go over racial templates. I remember that the Halfling template had bonus to Stealth skill however if you don’t buy the full skill then the extra skill levels can’t he used but the character still paid points for them.
  12. I rather like the idea of Dwarves having Low light vision than Dark sight. Savage Worlds (at least the edition I have) have an interesting ability for Halflings. They are lucky so with their mechanics they get an extra Benny to start the game. And and D&D and Tolkein, what I’ve heard is that Gygax was big on demihumans but players were and LotR miniatures were available at the time so he made allowances for Demihumans. Gygax always preferred human centric stories. Remember the original game had only 3 classes all human.
  13. I was just thinking (yup dangerous I know) that for all the Fantasy Hero is (or should be) is different than D&D, it seems that the Demihumans are just that same as D&Ds. Now some of this is understandable as fair amount of platers like easily identifiable Races. And certain traits should be there such as Halflings being short. However at least the sources of Fantasy Hero I have, the Demihumans are just Heroized versions of D&D. How do you guys tweak Demihumans? So as to he familiar yet not just a Heroized version?
  14. I’ll take a stab and say Fourth edition. Possibly Ninja Hero?
  15. And you get to round down to the Hero’s favor there as well!
  16. I believe you modify the STR first THEN divide by 5 to get DC. And don’t forget to round in Hero’s favor!
  17. I thought Professor DM already called it that the fans would just go back to D&D after the OGL debacle as if nothing ever happened.
  18. Yeah until you look at a spell in Hero and after the wall of text due to Advantages and Limitations-especially custom limitations then you’re dazed for a few rounds.
  19. I always used NCM as a soft limit not as a Hard limit. I also like classes, again as a Soft suggestion rather than a Hard must have.
  20. @greypaladin_01, funny you should ask because I was just messing with character conversions from D&D to Fantasy. As you know a 10 CON in a D&D game isn’t that bad however a 10 CON in Hero even Heroic level is not desired. I was thinking for those type characters they could by + CON only vs. STUN, probably -1/4 at best. And only buy enough to get to a reasonable level too. This way the 10 CON has still a crappy roll if he has to make his CON Roll but a little more capable in a fight. The other issue is that STR seems to be fairly similar in most characters. So of that has to do with STR Min. of weapons. I don’t have a problem with doing less damage but (and I’ll gladly be corrected) is the Negative OCV that’s tacked on. And even that isn’t so bad if it wasn’t tacked on if you are even one point less than STR Min. I personally would just have the STR Min. Penalty go in effect a full 5 STR less not a fraction of.
  21. Have you heard if the Royal Cubit? Yes cubit can vary but they have learned to standardize the cubit.
  22. @Old Man, the Assegai isn’t the only weapon thats’s hard to clarify. Depending on area and century Polearms can be confusing to. And don’t forget the old question, when does a knife become a sword?
  23. Ok as an aside, my youngest wanted his elf to use a scythe in Basic Fantasy so we agreed on the damage and went with it. And for spears, I always consider unless specified, spears to be just the spear head and nothing else.
  24. I don’t see why not GM Joe.
