  2. Re: How to Overthrow the Alien Overlords? I loved this thread so much, I rebooted it. Everyone who wants to discuss this please join. Everyone who wants to talk politics, please stay here until they lock the thread.
  3. I loved this original thread, before it got all NGD. Can we start again? I like the idea of multiple species that have prejudices against each other that the humans can exploit. In my version, the Psychic race is most sympathetic to the Earthlings, and is working to subvert the Brute race. The Green race sees the others as guinea pigs in their next medical experiment, and the Honorable race sees the others as barbarians with useful skills. What other weaknesses would the aliens have to exploit?
  4. Re: How to Overthrow the Alien Overlords? Happy NGD day, everybody!
  5. Re: WWYCD? The Trap Golden Eagle would point out to him that it is illegal to rig a shotgun to your front door, and the size or technology behind the gun doesn't change the fact. He would then take him to jail, but be extra careful if he tries to run...
  6. Re: Name for an elemental mage Clearly, his name should be "Black Elemental" or is that too super-friends?
  7. Re: How to Overthrow the Alien Overlords? I love this thread. Here is the game I now want to run: In 1999, Alien colonists invade. Earth's Mightiest Heroes fight back on the ground, while the Ambassador takes the fight to Outer Space. The Ambassador is killed, but in the process he cripples the fleet. The fleet can no longer leave the system or even send FTL communications. Worse, their manufacturing capabilities were destroyed, leaving them unable to repair or replenish the remaining ubertech. Finally, the flagship was destroyed, killing most of their Science Officers and the command structure. The 100 year colonization plan is now doomed to failure. One Battleship Commander assumes command of the rest of the fleet and revises their plans. realizing that every passing year will make them weaker, he launches an all out strike on the population centers, destroying every major city on Earth, and forcing the remaining population to surrender in a matter of months. Two generations pass. Earthlings are now second-class citizens on their own planet. a dozen alien cities have risen from the rubble, but instead of the gleaming centers of impossible architecture and beauty they had planned, they are built in the native way, with glass and steel. The grandchildren of the colonists are coming of age, most of them born to a life of privilege and celebrity that few humans have ever known, no more equipped to run the planet than Paris Hilton is to run the chain of hotels that bears her name. What remains of the Orbital Fleet is in disrepair, maintained to monitor the movements of the Earthling resistance, and to drop giant rocks on their heads. Those Earthlings that have not found work serving the aliens directly, or working in the farms or mines, have retreated to the wild places of the earth. All "domesticated" Earthlings are scanned yearly for any sign of superpowers, and those who show any aptitude are terminated. There is hope, however. Some of the young Aliens think of themselves as Earthlings, having known no other home, and have aided the resistance. And an underground railroad exists, to find those Earthlings with powers before the aliens, and send them to the wild places. Finally, there are still enclaves around the world, where Earth scientists try to decipher the mysteries of the alien tech. The colonists are fat, weak, and increasingly apathetic, waiting to be rescued by the next ship to arrive, in 50 years. And the earthlings have found a new weapon with which to strike back... You.

    Pulparize It!

Re: Pulparize It! The Miracle Worker The Crimson Veil goes undercover as a tutor to a deaf dumb and blind girl in order to get closer to the Boss of the Underworld. She quickly learns that her student has immense mystic senses, and makes her a partner on her war on crime...
  9. Re: Influx of Slaves I would look to the Master/Servant relationship of Puck and Oberon in A Midsummer Night's Dream for an understanding of how fey would react to servitude. Every commend would be followed as close to the letter and as far from the spirit as possible. Clever fairies would find a way to thwart their masters at every turn while being technically blameless...
  10. Re: Supe it up! The American President: Michael Douglas must simultaneously woo Annette Bening, and deploy his Ninja Force against the evil plans of Professor Pygmalion. Babe: A meteorite crashes on a small farm, giving all of the animals super intelligence and human speech. Grizzly Man: a chilling documentary about a delusional metamorph who was killed while turned into a grizzly bear. Taps: The government is closing the General Xavier School for Gifted Cadets. The students use their superpowers to force a standoff
  11. Re: Creating the Silver Age Team Cosmos: Designed to be the Ultimate Weapon in an eons -old Intergalactic War, Cosmos had one flaw: a conscience instilled in him by his "mother" bio-roboticist Gora Rao. Unwilling to use the vast cosmic power contained in his humanoid frame to destroy "enemy planets", he fled his galaxy to find a place where he could live in peace, a small backwater the natives call "Dirt" or "Earth".
  12. Re: Is Crimefighting Ethical? I would become a minesweeper with this set of powers. I would travel to foreign lands, identify the landmines, blast em, and deflect any stray shrapnel. I figure I could rid the world of old landmines in twenty years or so...
  13. Re: Is Crimefighting Ethical? I wonder if there were any set of powers that would convince me to "fight crime"? It seems that almost any power could be put to a better use than crimefighting... Super Villain Whupping is another story entirely. If I have the power cosmic, and some dude in a jet pack is taking potshots at civilians, "It's Clobberin' Time!"
  14. I was filling out the Superhero ethical questionnaire and I realized something. I can't imagine the set of powers that I would have that would make me choose to be a costumed vigilante. I might choose to work for a law enforcement agency. I might make a citizen's arrest if I saw a crime in progress. But devoting my life to "fighting crime" seems like a highly unethical and impractical decision. I accept the premise of costumed vigilantes in my comic books and rpg's, because there is an accepted culture of vigilanteism, where powerful beings who are above the law can only be beaten by other powerful beings above the law. I accept the premise of "Orcs are evil" in my fantasy literature and RPG's in much the same way. It is a literary conceit that would be repugnant in the real world, though. If this topic belongs in the NGD, let me know, but it seems like a valid tangent to discuss what literary conceits of this genre are ethically realistic in the real world. (Plus the original questionnaire seems to be hung up on a topic I would rather not read in this forum...)
  15. Re: Make them Pay! Here is my question. Would you let a fighter buy this package under your system? Weapon Master: HKA 2d6 (2d6+1 w/STR), Variable Advantage (+1/2 Advantages; Limited Group of Advantages (Available Weapons); +3/4) (52 Active Points); OAF (-1), Limited Power Power loses about a third of its effectiveness (Max Damage Limited by available Weapon; -1/2) Armor Master: Armor (10 PD/10 ED), Variable Advantage (+1/2 Advantages; Limited Group of Advantages (Limited by Available Armor); +3/4) (52 Active Points); OIF (-1/2), Limited Power Power loses about a third of its effectiveness ((Limited by Available Armor); -1/2) Powers Cost: 47

    Super cities

    Re: Super cities Chicago.
  17. Re: What concepts have you used for a 'Superman'? My Superman homage, the Ambassador, was created by an artifact placed by unknown aliens at the dawn of human existence. They buried an indestructable gestation chamber, at the furthest point from the birthplace of homo sapiens. If this young race of sentients could extend their reach around the globe, and unearth the chamber, then they would be worthy of contact. 400,000 years later, a farming couple in Kansas found the chamber while plowing the family farm. Believing this buried child to be a sign from God, they raised him as their own. This child, born in 1910 became Earth's most powerful superhero. By this time the race that had left him behind had long died out, leaving little trace of their world, and the Ambassador was left to find his own meaning. He is completely human, down to the molecular level, but is enveloped in an energy matrix, invisible to the naked eye, that will protect him from most forms of damage, and give him powers unimaginable in his day. His first appearance as a super hero was in 1929,when he flew into the air to prevent a man from jumping out of the Chicago Board of Trade Building. This man, Maxwell Masterson, vowed vengeance upon the Ambassador for robbing him of his dignity, becoming the first of many Rogues to challenge the Ambassador throughout his career. As his list of enemies grew so did his list of allies. Sasquatch, his Neanderthal counterpart, raised by the last Neanderthals in the Himilayas. Galatea, a female robot created by Professor Pygmalion to destroy the Ambassador, who instead fell in love with him. Red Mantis, a crime fighter from New York, imbued with the spirit of Rhadmanthus, judge of the underworld. The Arcane Family, a grandmother, mother, and daughter who are part of an unbroken line of Supreme Sorceresses from prehistoric times. This hero became exponentially more powerful in 1945, when Dr. Destroyer launched Operation Spoilsport, a retaliatory nuclear strike from the ashes of the Third Reich. Bomber drones aimed at five Allied cities were launched from a secret facility in the Black Forest. the Ambassador intercepted the New York missile in the Atlantic Ocean and fought of waves of Destroids before reaching the H-Bomb in the belly of the drone. unable to disarm the device in time, he willed his energy matrix to envelop both his body and the bomb absorbing all of the radiation and most of the concussive force of the bomb. After disappearing for twenty years, he reappeared in a flash of light and heat at the sight of the original explosion. His energy matrix, previously invisible, now glowed brightly. He was ultimately unable to control the energies that coursed through him, and eventually left the planet for the far reaches of space. Where he is now is anyone's guess, but Ambassadorr sightings are more common than Elvis, Jesus, and Virgin Mary sightings combined...
  18. Re: Ridiculous things in comics that you don't mind. You are mistaking karma with consequences of magic. Plus, you are calling death a bad thing in a universe with a proven afterlife. I think that magic in the Whedon Universe works as a shortcut. When used as a shortcut for the mundane (Search spells, changing clothes, etc.) no harm, no foul. When used as a shortcut for things that should not have shortcuts (Relationships, Personal Growth, Grieving) things go wonky...
  19. Re: Who would you recreate? Spider Man When Peter Batson got lost on a field trip to the Museum of Natural History, an old African shaman working as a janitor showed him an ancient spider totem hidden in storage. On it was engraved the word ANANSI. The old wizard implored Peter to speak the world aloud. Peter complied and felt a strange spirit overtake him. Before his own eyes he transformed into an adult with the powers of Anansi, the Spider-trickster of African legend. Donning a Red and Black costume, he swings through the urban jungle as Spider Man...
  20. Re: [interest in an online game?] Avengers: Generation 3 My favorite site for a superhero base in NYC is Governor's Island.
  21. Re: [interest in an online game?] Avengers: Generation 3 OK, I joined this thread way too late to play, I think, but here is my character idea, anyway... The Phantom Avenger. Name: Steve Jones Relationship: Rick Jones' grandson Origin: In an effort to get vengeance on the 1960's Avengers, the Space Phantom reaches through Limbo to turn Avengers from the future against them. Due to a cosmic mishap, he summons 20 year old Steve Jones, a college student who has inherited his grandfather's knack for being present at the most important events in superhero history. The summoning imbues Steve with an altered form of the Space Phantom's powers, and after defeating him in Limbo, returns to his own time with the ability to "channel" the heroes of old. Powers: Steve can channel the powers of anyone on the Avengers Roster as of 1964 (Cap, Thor, Hulk, Iron Man, Wasp, Ant Man) at their 1964 power level for approximately 12 seconds at a time. He may channel a new form every 12 seconds...
  22. Re: Golden Age Day Jobs Also don't forget that until the 60s, there were separate Help Wanted sections for men and women...
  23. Re: Help me design the Silver Belles The Silver Bell of Freedom, forged by Paul Revere, and rung at President Washington's inauguration, was stolen in 1943 by Doktor Faust, a Nazi Wizard operating in the United States. He brought the bell to his base of operations, below a munitions factory, intending to ransom it. Four workers at the plant interrupted the doktor in the midst of an arcane ritual. The Bell exploded, sending shards of Silver into the four women. Each woman found she could turn into an icon of Liberty with powers far beyond those of mere mortals. Now, more than 60 years later, they may still channel the power of the Silver Bell, and change from their aging bodies into powerful desirable women. When trouble visits their Miami retirement community, Blanche, Dorothy, Rose and Sophia become... The Silver Belles!
  24. Re: WWYCD?: One Night At The Opera... Golden Eagle, in his civilian ID, is the CEO of an American multinational, DEXCorp. Having no evidence of mind control, he will do a little investigating to see if similar "unusual accidents" have befallen any of his business rivals. If so, he will compete aggressively in markets they have in common, and see what happens.
  25. Re: So if I have 30 rPD/30 rED armor... Any attack bought with NND (not vs. whatever natural substance thwarts magic in your world) should do the trick, as should any mental attack (Ego Blast, Mind Control, Mental Illusions, etc...)
