  1. Re: WWYCD 101:A question of faith See, I think in a world where magic is real, the gods that demand sacrifice are real, too. And the superhero's job is to seek out those gods, whether they be Galactus, or Beyonder, or the Anti Monitor, and beat the tar out of them.
  2. Re: WWYCD 101:A question of faith Golden Eagle is a scientist with the Psych Lim: does not believe in magic. He will do everything in his power to investigate whether there is a scientific cause and effect between the good crops and the sacrifice. If there is he will find a way to replace the sacrifice with another acceptable practice. If there is not a scientific explanation, he will assume mumbo-jumbo and find a way to intervene, probably by using a combination of force field and hologram technology to fake a sacrifice... When the entity that has been deprived of its sacrifice arrives, he will blast it to kingdom come.
  3. Re: Self-Aware Ammo Isn't the vehicle model for smart ammo predicated on the idea that there are targets that can outrun bullets? Outside of ship to ship, this seems absurd to me...
  4. Re: WWYCD if a supers-eating wave swept reality? See, that's the problem I have with the scenario in general. All of this stuff in your head is really not interactive. No one here saw what you were trying to do with this, and I guarantee that trying to play this scenario without spelling it out ("Earth is doomed, you have 3 months to unpollute the Earth so that the stupid people left alive won't die in the toxic mess that will remain.") will result in your PC's trying to stop the wave until they die. What will make this a playable scenario will be the bridge between "How do we stop this" and "We can't stop this, how do we save what will remain from perishing as well?"
  5. Re: WWYCD if a supers-eating wave swept reality? The real problem that I have with this scenario (And I am not trolling, just trying to give constructive critisism) is that it has no basis in reality. This "destroy everything" wave may have a decent solution, but it is locked up in the GM's head, and the game becomes an attempt to read the GM's mind. Such situations have a literary and mythological basis(The great flood, Ragnarok, Revelation) but most of these events do not have solutions that yield to player character actions, and you have ruled out the traditional methods of surviving them (build an ark). I have played games with guys who don't understand that their friends can't read their mind, and so when I GM, I realise that when my players are missing something "obvious", it is my fault, not theirs.
  6. Re: Anywhere but your own country Nueva Madrid. After the alien invasion destroys Madrid, a super city is built on the crater. An increasingly isolationist US withdraws from the UN, prompting them to relocate to the city with the worlds only functioning spaceport.
  7. Re: WWYCD: Discovering the nature of reality? Bouncer would ask me "Why didn't you make me a more successful actor? Why am I stuck in this career limbo?" I would explain to him that if I just gave him everything he wanted, he probably wouldn't be real enough to appear before me.

  9. Re: WWYCD trapped in a quarantined, plague-infested city? Golden Eagle has the wealth of a Fortune 50 company at his disposal, and the technical skill to redesign his supersuit on the fly to do anything that can be done with a supersuit. He will be the eyes, ears, MRI, and any other senses required for an offsite reseach team composed of the finest doctors in the world. If necessary, he will allow those researchers to tele-operate his suit, so they can conduct whatever tests they need.

  11. Re: one year to change the world January, Become billionaire by launching satellites into space February, Spend billions on land grants in remote areas of the world (Australian outback, Siberia, etc.) March-Build enough Solar Chimneys in remote areas of the world to sustain all the world's refugees in non-polluting industrial/agricultural communities. Build cities around chimneys. April-Transport all willing refugees to inhabit Solar Communities, plus all the professional people willing to help refugees May-Jumpstart new non-polluting technologies by using enormous power to bridge the gaps (Example: we could have efficient hydrogen cells in every car if only we had enough platinum? I would scour the asteroid belt, until I came back with ten times the platinum needed to jumpstart hydrogen cells. We could build safe fusion reactors if only we had enough energy to prime the pumps? Give me a crank, and I'll generate that power) June-Establish Solar communities as chief sources of new technology and industry. July-Vacation August- Work with scientists to determine best way to stop global warming. Do so at superspeed September- Offer to dismantle nuclear weapons and dispose of nuclear waste in all countries of the world. Explain to those that refuse that I already have, and was just offering them a way to save face. October- Do definitive search for life on Mars. If none exists, begin terraforming. Inject molten iron at core if neccesary to create magnetic field, and throw enough H2O and O2 at the red planet to create a permanent atmosphere. November- Build space elevators on every continent. Use techniques from May to power through any hurdles December-Retire to Solar Community in semi tropical area, pray that the next Beam recipient doesn't undo everything I did.
  12. Re: Who are the top 5 most powerful characters in your Campaign. Dr. Destroyer Mechanon Menton Ba'al, a demon that was supposed to be summoned by sacrificing a beautiful lady in the chamber of the UN. Good Guys Inc saved the girl, but a male cultist fell on his sword, summoning Ba'al through him. As a result, the demon was hideously mutated and unable to reproduce. Ba'al later became the Millenium Bug, and traveled backwards through the previous Millenium, requiring the every hero in the last thousand years to travel to the year 1000 AD to defeat it. It was our Crisis on Infinite Earths, allowing us to reboot the characters in 5th Edition. The Arcanes, Three women, Maiden, Matron, and Crone, who collectively share the role of Supreme Sorceress. They are an unbroken line of daughter mother and grandmother from the dawn of man. On the day the daughter gives birth, the grandmother dies, and the cycle continues. The current daughter is 40, and has put off conceiving out of misguided love for her grandmother. They were responsible, through their 1000 AD Counterparts, for summoning the heroes against the millenium Bug.
  13. Re: The Supermen The Ambassador is a clone of his human father, created by an artifact left on Earth by a long dead spacefaring race. His cellular DNA belongs to his father, but his mitochondrial DNA belong to the ancient race. These mitochondria exist partly in hyperspace and absorb HyperSolar Radiation in order to protect and rebuild the host. As the threats to the host increased, the mitochondria absorbed more and more radiation to protect the host, until his body could no longer contain the energy safely, and he left our planet. Had he been a clone of his mother, he would have been able to pass on the mitochondrial DNA...
  14. Re: Help with Mental Power If she is in the same hex: I would use: Not where you think she is:+10 DCV vs. all attacks, uses END, only vs. attackers with minds. If she is in an entirely different hex, I would use You aren't even warm...:X Hexes of Images, -10 to Perception, single Image (self, X*6 feet away), only vs. viewers with minds...
  15. Re: Concepts you wish your players would play I played in a 50's teen hero game where every character was a WWII Legacy hero somehow. They included: Johnny Angel: The son of Johnny "Rebel" Walker, a precog member of Sargent Steele's Suicide Squadron (KIA 1945), and protege of the Homefront Hero Doctor Daedulus. Combat Precog with an antigrav wing harness. Barracuda: The illegitimate daughter of the Princess of Atlantis and a surface dweller. Multipower of various aquatic attacks MasterMind: the nephew of Robert Oppenheimer, built the worlds first fusion reactor. He hid it from those who would turn it into a bomb, in the safest place he could think of, his very own battlesuit. Stray Cat: Her parents, the Black Cat and Mad Dog, were always at each others throats. After her mother died, she took her costume and lived on the streets... Kid Leviathan: Mentallist who was rescued from a secret camp in the heart of the Black Forest. Could he be the son of infamous Nazi Dr. Destroyer?

  17. Re: Curiousity about vampires and werewolves I told my wife about the vampire/werewolf feud in Underworld, and she thought it should be a musical... Oh, the Vampire and the Werewolf should be friends, The Vampire and the Werewolf should be friends... One group likes to bite some necks The other has some hairy pecs, but that don't mean that they can't all be friends. Underworld folk should stick together, Underworld folk should all be pals Vampires suck on the Werewolves' victims Werewolves snack on the Vampires' thralls.
  18. Re: Jedi and evil actions In the space opera game I run occasionally, my Jedi like heroes' active points cap for powers can not exceed their Psych Lims plus earned XP. The psych Lims can not be bought down, only exchanged for "darker" or "crazier" Psych Lims, if the character chooses.
  19. Re: How to use the President I suspect you can only use the President as an adversary if you and your players are either homogenous or apathetic politically. Nothing derails a game quicker than a GM who runs thing according to his world view and players who do not subscribe to this world view. Our GM was shocked when he instituted a superpower registration act, and our whole group decided to move to Canada. He couldn't believe anyone would have a problem with it, and we couldn't believe there wasn't a mass exodus or riots. EDIT by "group" I mean the PC's. We would have to be pretty hardcore players to leave the country over a GM's plotline...
  20. Re: Was watching Superman TAS and wondered about Mxyzptlk I really liked the "Second" appearance of Mxyzptlk in Byrne's reboot. Superman gets him to spell his name backwards almost immediately, and Mxyzptlk says "Oh, no, that was last time. This time you have to... make me paint my face blue!" I like the idea that the only reason he leaves is that he is honoring the rules of a game... Mxyzptlk did torment Luthor once, when Superman was off-planet. Luthor beat the tar out of him, and Mxyzptlk was really confused. Luthor explained that it was called "cheating"...
  21. Re: Speedster Question... Buy absurd Noncombat multipliers to his running, buy off the turn mode, and give him the Psych Lim: must move at full speed when moving(Very Common, Strong). This guy sounds like he is going to kill himself the next time he tries to put a fork in his mouth...
  22. Re: Your PC's might be underpowered if... Your arch villain "The Mighty Mop", is just the the night janitor at the true villain's base. Your "Superpowers" gained by being bit by a "radioactive racoon" turns out to be just garden variety rabies...
  23. Re: How to Overthrow the Alien Overlords: Reboot Since this was a superhero thread, I thought I would throw in my justification for why the aliens won, but are now beatable. Every planet likely to bear life has an Ambassador, left behind by an ancient starfaring race in a gestation chamber. They also left behind mitochondrial DNA, which forms a symbiotic relationship with cellular life on the planet, and waits for creatures to develop that are sapient enough to accesss the chamber. John Clark did in 1910, while plowing his field in Kansas, and the chamber responded by scanning his DNA, and cloning him. The resulting infant bonded to the alien tech, becoming more and more able to access the energy matrix surrounding his body. in 2010, when the aliens attacked, the Ambassador went after the flagship, to discover 5 alien Ambassadors (Overlords) ready to greet him. Each alien's raw power was not his equal, and they were using much of their energy to create and sustain the fleet, They infused some of their essence into the FTL Drives, antigravity devices, and battleship force fields that brought them here. However, they had found uses for their powers that our ambassador hadn't dreamed of, including the ability to siphon energy from his personal matrix. Realizing that the aliens would be unstoppable otherwise, he overloaded his power, destroying the alien Overlords and himself. Now, the fleet's tech resources are limited to whatever existed before the defeat of the Overlords. It has taken the Earthling resistance movement 50 years to piece this information together. Plus they have one piece of information the aliens don't have. two hours before the invasion, a Mars probe discovered a container in a crater just below the surface. Examining the data, the size, shape, and material composition suggest that it is identical to our Ambassador's "Creche". It is just waiting for a sentient species to find it, and become the parent of the next Ambassador...
  24. Re: Fair or Munchkin? If I were the GM, I would look the player in the eye and say, "You realize, someone is going to drain that one power, and you will lose mental awareness when it happens..." If he flinches, it's out. (Even if he doesn't flinch, it's out. I just want to see if he flinches...)
  25. Re: Star Trek Online (Star Trek's new MMO) If you are a starfleet officer, wouldn't you have to follow orders? It seems like it would be hard to make that into an MMO...
