  1. Re: Interpreting "Body" How would you use such a statistic in the game?
  2. Re: Interesting Megastructures My latest game takes place in an O'Neill Cylinder 500 Miles long, with a 50 Mile diameter. Centripedal Force replaces Gravity, and bullets fly in odd arcs that depend on your facing. To simulate this, I doubled the Range modifiers, unless characters make an AK roll to get their bearings, fire a shot to determine their bearings, or have bump of direction and the appropriate WF.
  3. Re: Making Money Yes, and I belive you have to declare $10,000 or more when you cash out. If this character kept her winnings low, no casino would catch on, and she could report her winnings at the end of the year. Of course it may be that every psychic has had that idea, and that the World Series of Poker is in fact the site of a yearly battle for supremacy in the psychic world... Another form of gambling she could expect to win is Horse Racing. With a little training, she could tell which horses were injured, which were drugged, which wanted to win, etc... she could pick the winners with enough accuracy to beat the house. She could also make tons of money at Vegas in the casino's employ, scanning for groups of card counters (Read "Bringing Down the House") If she caught the cheats, the casinos wouldn't care much how... Of course, in all of this I assume the character is looking for a way to justify spending points on wealth, and not a way to avoid spending the points...
  4. Re: Making Money Assuming she has no precog, her best bet is to buy a book on Poker, go to Vegas, and play Texas Hold-em. It is a game where you play against each other instead of the house, and is more about bluffing than luck. Since no-one but a fellow psychic can succesfully bluff her, she could amass a small fortune as discreetly or as quickly as she wanted. She could make $9000 a visit, and never have to file with the IRS...
  5. Re: Killing attack optioal damage Ask a guy who was shot while wearing a bulletproof vest if he was stunned. I'm guessing he will say yes.
  6. Re: hit location In my Heroic games, all attacks are x3 STUN (+ STUN multiplier if applicable). Called Shots (including High Shot, Low Shot, etc.) use the hit location table for damage.
  7. Re: A stunning attack If you are reasoning from effect, a target that is "stunned" is incapable of action for an indeterminate period of time (X), correct? This could be: A large PRE attack, An Invisible or Mental Entangle that only lasts X. A SPD Drain
  8. Re: Mind Control Arrow, Help with one of Steve's rulings Just a thought... AE Hex, Non Selective, Based on CON? This would give a chance for both the High EGO character to resist (through ECV) and the high CON character (through effect)...
  9. Re: Custom Limitation - Fade One way to model this is to have a base VPP that mimics powers at a low level, and a variable Aid that boosts them to the level of the target. This would fade at whatever rate you set for it, using the fade rate table...
  10. Re: Firefly HERO Website Up That looks really good! I especially like the layout, both the way it looks on the page, and the way you have organized the information... I didn't notice any links to the HeroDesigner files or printable versions. Is this by design?
  11. Re: WWYCD: The Arc Golden Eagle would claim the ship as his own, under whatever salvage law he could make stick, and the fact that no-one but supervillains could dispute his claim with force of arms. He would bring his own team of scientists, including himself (Nuclear Engineering/Material Sciences), and teammates Bolt (Astronomy/Cryptozoology) and Cheshire Cat (Quantum Physics). Bouncer would merely be along for the ride... Johnny Angel belongs to the Junior Achievers, a group chartered by the UN, and would be bound to defer to them. He would assume that the ship was from Mars, since in 1959 Movie Martians were all the rage...
  12. Re: Who would win? Writer's choice Who would win a fist fight, George Lucas in his prime, or Gene Rodenberry in his prime? By Prime, assume that Lucas had never written Episodes I,II,III, or VI, and Rodenberry had never thought up Andromeda or First Contact, or whatever that Alien series was called...
  13. Re: Speedster Construct Question: One Man Starship Crew I'm a sucker for Change Environment (Make ship perform operations) in this instance...
  14. Re: Avemgers + Politics This thread is a perfect example of how tricky this plot line can be. Poll your players before you run this to find out if their politics mesh with each other, and more importantly, mesh with you An example. My friend ran a common origin superhero genre with mystery powers. We learned what our powers were as we went along. When he told us that the government passed a Registration Act for anyone with superpowers, we told him we would join the opposition and go underground. He told us there was no underground, that everyone in the U.S. supported this. This almost broke the game up, with the players refusing to believe that such a controversial law had no detractors given the history of such acts. We told him that we would oppose such a law as players if it happened here. I think the best way to run a "We can rule the world better" campaign is to work the unintended consequences. If they distribute food to the needy, unpaid farmers will strike. If they execute or lock up criminals forever, those who commit crimes will go to desperate lengths to conceal their crimes. If they take out the Kingpin, a dozen mob bosses will start a war in the streets...If they suspend the rule of law, Captain Patriot will raise a "villain group" to defeat them...
  15. Re: Monk's Garb? More to the point, the Amish decide what role new tech will play in their lives. They use cell phones at work to do business, but they have no place in the home. Rather than being "anti-technology", perhaps they have elaborate rules for how tech may be used. For example, only high priests may send and recieve interstellar communications, and followers may only travel between stars in groups of 12 or more...
  16. Re: What's *your* superpower? My superpower is THE VOICE. I have a voice that is deep and loud, and I constantly strive to keep it at an acceptable level. If I need to, however, I can make myself heard in the most crowded room, make someone next to me cover their ears, or intimidate others who are looking to pick a fight with me or others. I have on several occasions, stopped a shouting match between strangers on the verge of a fistfight, just by yelling, "HEY!".
  17. Re: Evolution of the races? Here's an article that may provide some inspiration for this topic...
  18. Re: Mystic "The's" I think Joss felt the same. In the last episode, our heroes break the old male rule and replace it with a system that empowers all potential slayers...
  19. Re: Ship size, ship shape, and target aspect. This could be a power: Streamlined Design, +X DCV, only protects 60degree arc.
  20. Re: My Player Betrayed Humanity. Now What? It is entirely possible to be a good friend and not be abusing your friendship by being annoying in a game. If he were being a prick during Monoploy we wouldn't be having this discussion. As a theater director, I have encountered the actor who insists that his character would do something a certain way, when neither the text nor common sense supports it. In the context of a play, I have tremendous advantage, because I can steer an actor in ways that a GM can't, but I can't make him do something he doesn't want to do. My advice to you is to confront him with the core of your argument:" Other players are not having fun." Let him give every argument he cares to make. concede every point. Then return to the core argument. "Other players are not having fun." He might rail some more; let him. But return. "Other players are not having fun." Don't get distracted by his side arguments, they are irrelavent to the core argument. Eventually he will come to one of two points: He can either have fun with the group, or he cannot. Only he can decide what he wants to do. Don't let him tell you that he is being kicked out. He is choosing to have fun with the group, or to find another way.
  21. Re: Opinions requested on an application of Side Effects If you are trying to hit something Indirectly, and the Indirect Roll fails, wouldn't you miss anyway?
  22. Re: My Player Betrayed Humanity. Now What? This seems to be an out of game problem. Talk to the player, and tell him that you don't want to run a game that pits player against player, and ask him if he is willing to change his mode of play for the good of the game. If the player is willing to change his behaviour, here is how you fix the game. Let the PC's report back. Have a big showy confrontation. The big muckety muck kicks him off the team. All of a sudden, the player's Actual Character bursts through the door, and yells "That's not me, it's an impostor". The alien posing as the character solliloquoys "That's right, I kidnapped you so I could mimic your powers. Now that I have samples of all your DNA, I have all your powers combined! No one can stop me now! Long live Empress Vhan! Bwa ha ha ha!". Battle Royale ensues, PC's kick aliens butt, foiling Vhan's double secret backup plan.

  24. Re: Evolution of the races? I like the patron race origin mentioned earlier. The difference between dogs is far greater than might exist between various fantasy races. If an Elder Race bred humans for different uses, they might appear as different as Chihuahuas, Dobermans, Huskies, and Great Danes. My thought on the uses for which they might be bred: Dwarves: Built for work, hauling, digging, building, etc. Orcs, Goblins, Hobgoblins: Built for hunting. Elves: Built for house pets. Humans: Left wild for breeding stock.
