  1. Re: What's the best way to conquer Canada? If you are going to use Mind Control (IMHO, the only way to keep the U.S. out of the fight...) you would be wise to take advantage of Canadian Content Laws...
  2. Re: Need a hand with a power Here are some ideas to simulate this power that don't IMHO, "break the game": ENTANGLE: Special effect, the character is trapped on the other side of a Time Gate. The time gate is visible in the hex where the character disappeared, and if he or his teammates break it, he returns to this time. TRANSFORM: Character into Thin Air. When the character heals back all the transform damage, he reappears where he came from. His Time Travel Jaunt is merely a special effect. That's all I can think of right now...
  3. Re: WWYCD #122 (or so): Strange Visitor Golden Eagle would assume that Flesh Gordon was part of yet another robot plot concocted by Yo-Yo, to defeat/join the team. The rest of the team would spend some time figuring out what he was an homage to, and when he found out Flesh was from a "counterverse", would try to get him back, for everyone's sake. Protector would have a long, Denny O'Neill style political discussion with Uncle Slam and tell him, "I don't care what you do in the rest of this country, but everything that happens between 96th and 125th Streets in Manhattan is my business." Bouncer would ask Husky to be his crimefighting/Extreme wrestling partner. He would introduce him to his agent/informer, and explain to him how "In this world, you gotta market yourself, hero or celebrity, it's all about the press release"...
  4. Re: Alternate Earth #25: What's up, Doc? Golden Eagle's first name was Dexter more than a decade before Dexter's Laboratorycame out... I think he would resemble the professor in the PowerPuff Girls, but act more like Dexter... Protector would be a Zoot suit wearing cat. Whenever the Dogs came into Cat Town to disturb the peace, Catman would kick them back into Dogville... Bouncer would be a low key, slightly amorphous humanoid, whom the Villain would constantly beat up, lock in boxes, throw off cliffs, and run over with trains, only to see Bouncer reappear next to the Villain. His catch phrase would be "Don't make me use my Bouncy Powers on you." Eventually the Villian would do something that really upset him, like whistle at his Tex-Avery-Drawn girlfriend, and Bouncer would go Droopy Dog on the guy...Each cartoon would end with the catch phrase "I told him not to make me use my Bouncy Powers..."
  5. Re: Alternate Earth #23(?): Living In The Wild, Wild West Golden Eagle would be "Doc" Morache, Railroad Tycoon, and inventor of the Rail Communicator, a telephone that uses the rail lines so that trains can talk to one another. He is currently working on a "Railless Train" that can be carried on a rail car, and travel to places where the railroad ain't. It uses tracks, and he has mounted Mr. Gatling's Machinery Gun on it to chase down train robbers. Protector would be Frank "Protector" Wright, the Sheriff of Liberty, Nevada, A mining town where neither the Negro, nor the Injun, nor the Chinaman need fear the lynch mob. Frank is as deadly with his fists as he is with a pistol, having learned the ancient art of "Chinese Boxing" while working on the railroad in California. Toreador has exactly the same origin (Mixed blood Spanish/Indian, left to die in the sun, goes on a spirit quest, awakes to find himself clad in the traditional Spanish Toreador costume, with magic Sword and Cape) but becomes a hero of California, saving the peasants from the machinations of the Robber Barons... Bouncer is a cowboy with an unfortunate reputation for being bulletproof. It seems that every other town he rides into, someone wants to test that theory. Years ago, when rustlers kidnapped the girl he was sweet on, he put on a mask, walked into their lair, and single handedly beat the tar out of 'em. Unfortunately, his girl was gutshot by a ricochet, and Bouncer has been trying to find a bottle big enough to crawl into ever since.
  6. Re: "Grond smash!" and other Grond plots Bodyjacker. Grond. Mayhem.
  7. Re: Unusual Character Ideas I once built a character who contained the psyches of every American erased from the timestream in a reality bending battle between Dr. D and the forces of good. The Doctor won, and created a reality in which he was the President for life of the U.S. The character woke up every day looking completely different, male or female, black or white, tall or short. He started each day by taking his picture, and adding it to his cab license ("Jean Nepersonne"). Each day he/she would have the memories and desires of the person he/she resembled, and would attempt to honor his/her last requests. For brief moments, he can override the psychic template imposed upon him, and become a patriotic superhero, fighting for an America that was, and was no more. His name: Pluribus
  8. Re: Building a MacGyver "Superskill" VPP: No Conscious Control over Powers, OIF: Weapon of Opportunity, and Requires a Luck Roll to Activate Why are you trying to avoid the VPP. It's warm and comfy. Give in to the dark side, er I mean, the VPP...
  9. Re: National Warrior Archetypes France: Carolingian Spain: Conquistador
  10. Re: Alternate Earth #22—World of your Dreams Golden Eagle would live in a world transformed by his inventions. Poverty, war, and crime have been eliminated. No citizen needs for anything, and all are free to pursue their own happiness. Cold Fusion generators produce all the power and hydrogen that the world can consume, self replicating O'Neill Cylinders provide a home in space for anyone who wishes it, and work is progressing on the FTL ship, Friendship. Dexter Morache, nearly 70, is as fit as a 20 year old, thanks to advances discovered in the Morache Clinic. He plans to take the ship on its maiden cruise, and will be awakened by his teammates as his crew makes the jump to hyperspace... Protector is also 70, fit but not impossibly so, and is enjoying a surprise birthday party at his karate studio in Harlem. All of his students have returned to tell him how his studio made their lives better, and inspired them to achieve greatness as scientists, business people, doctors, and congresspersons. They give him his old mask in a glass box, with the inscription "He made our world safe, so that we could make it just." His neighborhood outside is idyllic, cleaner than he would have thought possible, with no bars on windows, and only privacy locks on doors. Bouncer is attending the premiere of his newest autobiographical picture, Bouncer IV: The Hunt for Dr. Destroyer. He is escorting his wife, Nicole Kidman, and his girlfriend, Selma Hayek down the red carpet, when he is approached by Maria Menounos, from Entertainment Tonight. Knowing their place as lesser celebrities, Kidman and Hayek take two steps back so that their man can conduct an interview. When Maria is finished, she leans in and whispers."I can't get last night out of my mind. As soon as the movie starts, meet me in the coat closet." His teammates will wake him just as he oopens the door to the coat closet.
  11. Re: Best way to strip someone down. I would allow a character to use a power roll if he or she could justify it as an extension of the power...
  12. Re: Captain America's Shield Captain america's Shield bounces because he spins it as he throws it. Friction encountered in contact with a surface sends it in another direction.
  13. Re: WWYCD #115: Xerox Paradox...Baby Blues! He's Destroyer, he is a gadgeteer think tank. And the forces that made Golden Eagle a battlesuit wearing gadgeteer could not be reproduced genetically. If the kids have the potential, they would still need to be educated, trained, and brought up to resist their inner impulses to make the world a better place. Having said that, he would try to destroy the factory, rescue the kids, and probably put them in the young superhero prep school in Westchester (which, in the GGI Universe, is not for mutants only...)
  14. Re: Enterprise NC1701A vs. Imperial Star Destroyer Jeff Russel's Starship Dimensions is the first place I go when such nerdy thoughts occur to me. He has scale pictures of many sci fi vessels, stations, and monsters. The pictures can be moved about for comparison, and each picture has a pixel to meters scale. The attached picture is at a scale of 2 meters per pixel. TOS Enterprise, and ST:TMP Enterprise don't look like much of a match, but I don't think a collision between ST:TNG Enterprise and an ISD would leave either ship operational...

  16. Re: Alternate Earth 21: A Study In Emerald Golden Eagle would be one of those Mad Scientists, creating Flying Golems to fight for the Duke of Manhattan Protector would be a restorationist, killing any Edomite who ventured into the African Quarter of Manhattan.
  17. Re: Alternate Earth 20: Paradise Island Lost Protector would be a militant masculist, what Randi Limbaugh would call a "Mascu-Nazi", and would be especially concerned with crimes of husband abuse. He would quote Sartre's "Le Deuxieme Sexe" and Hefner's masculist magazine "Mr." He would also wear a tighter outfit, on the belief that men can be both sexy and powerful... Golden Eagle would be the man behind every great woman. He would have gone to Harvard, the "brother" school of Radcliffe, looking for a succesful wife. He would have quickly fallen in love with an MIT Woman, and would sit in on her classes and take notes for her. After they were married, he would help her get ahead with his technical ideas, which she would turn into million dollar patents at her company. Supremely bored as a homemaker, he would turn to crimefighting, building a crime lab in the basement to solve mysteries before getting dinner on the table.
  18. Re: WWYCD #115: Xerox Paradox...Baby Blues! Golden Eagle is not concerned, beyond the outrage at the breach of ethics. 6 kids with the "power" to invent a battlesuit seem a poor use of his cloning resources.
  19. Re: H.P. Lovecraft, Otto Skorzeny, and the CU In my world, Elvis is the head of a SHIELD-type organization, after going underground to pursue his life-long dream of being a kung-fu lawman. The agency? Special Agency for the Removal of Terrorism and Crime in the United States The acronym? SPARTACUS
  20. Re: Superman for President? Here is a dirty trick that makes for plenty of role playing. Have VIPER (or whoever) attack him at every campaign stop. Both Kerry and Bush can rightly claim that, as a superpowered president, he would just attract bigger villains, and invite more danger to civilians...
  21. Re: WWYCD? #112: Polly Want A Cracker?
  22. Re: Superman for President? I suspect the opposition would try something like this...
  23. Re: What would Dr. Destroyer *really* do? First off, Dr. D would not try to raise an army and take control in a conventional sense in the "real" world. He would be the most infamous living member of the Nazi party, and Israel would have a multi million dollar bounty on his head. Not a single person who could identify him as Dr. Destroyer would ever see him, yet he would run everything that operates in the shadows. He would be behind the drug cartels, the Yakuza, Al Qaeda, The Turner Militias, The Lord's Army. And he would be using these organizations over a period of decades as a diversion, to prevent the nations of Earth from developing a proper space program, and to finance his own. He would then take 10,000 genetically diverse loyal followers, climb into his space ship, and settle them in an O'Neill Cylinder where he would await the apocalyptic eco-disaster he helped create by causing global warming. Also, in the real world, he would be hopelessly insane, and he and his followers would be dead from the cyanide in the kool aid before the ship ever arrives.

    Arabian Nights

Re: Arabian Nights If you are going to design characters for them, you probably want to make sure they have complimentary skills, while still staying within the urchin archetype. For example The Nimble one (Second-story man): Acrobatics, Climbing, Contortionist The Sneaky one (Burgular) Stealth, Concealment, Shadowing The Charming one(Beggar) Conversation, Persuasion, Trading The Scrappy one (Thug)WF: Knife, Intimidation, Streetsmart The Clever One (Con-man)Tactics, Sleight of Hand, Acting I would also give them more XP than normal for each adventure, maybe 6-8 instead of 2-3. This way, they can customize their characters very quickly...
