  3. Re: Need help with a item build Knight of St. Michael, a.k.a. Sir William is a Norman Knight with weapons that were built without using Killing Attacks... You can see his character sheet here: http://www.herogames.com/forums/showpost.php?p=730539&postcount=10 A spell was used to summon him from "the past" and as part of the magic it made his weapons less deadly...
  4. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... Here is the setup... Hammer called Prime to tell him about spotting a creature that looked just like him but is black instead of orange... Prime speaks with the Knight about possibly helping track down the black creature then turns down the Knight's help when the Knight makes a joke about skewering the black creature and barbecuing him... Prime then decides he might need some help from the Knight, if his pursuit of the black creature takes a turn for the worst... so after some thought he tells Adam, the group's combat computer to call the Knight if there is trouble... "Send the Knight if you hear something on the communicator like, 'Oh the pain, the pain, its unbearable' or maybe if you hear 'Its killed Hammer and its starting to eat him' or something else like that."

  6. Re: Opinion Fluff: Knockback Yes... The last couple of times I have ran superheroes, I have not used the KB rules... In the previous campaign, I put it to a vote of the players... after the two combat tacticians thought about it for a few minutes, they convinced everyone to vote against using KB... their reasoning was it would allow for more accurate calculation of target's future position... no random KB effects intruding on their tactical planning... In the current campaign most of the players are new to the Hero System... I decided not to use the KB rules to simplify the combat system learning curve... we may add it at a later time and I am still building NPCs that have concepts that would justify it with KB Resistance...
  7. Re: Alternate Attack Rolls To prevent a mess when figuring an attack against 1/2 DCV just remember the 10 is added after the DCV is modified... it is a constant, just like the 11 in the standard combat roll, and is not adjusted... Example: Target has DCV of 10, so an attack against the target would be successful if OCV + 3d6 was 20 or greater... if the same target was at half DCV then an attack would be successful if OCV + 3d6 was 15 or greater... As for hitting a hex with the roll high system... an attack would be successful if OCV + 3d6 was 13 or greater... if the result your GM was giving was something different, then he was fooling around with the hit probability of AE attacks... I knew my time as a Fuzion Heretic would come in handy some day...
  8. Re: The Remarkable Wrong-Righters -- Basic Character Concepts I don' think you have to worry too much about limiting your power selections with Charm... there are a lot of different types of charms... here are some examples... by category... http://www.silverfantasy.com/charms.html

  14. Re: Doing the co-GM thing Hey... sorry for the late reply... I had typed up a pretty long reply giving some personal experiences and suggestions then my computer locked up before it was sent... got so frustrated that I decided to wait until the next day to retype it... well no one replied to the thread, so it disappeared... then I found it again today while searching for something else... ***** I have had experience with a shared world campaign... dont know if it fits your definition of co-GM since each GM had his own group and his own area... what the shared world did for us was to allow us to share villain groups, agencies and so forth, so that each of us did not have to build the world from whole cloth... We first sat down and established the ground rules for the world... stop sign abilities were reviewed and given the yea or nay... other basics of the world were established... were there aliens, was there a "supreme sorceror" type, and so forth... Next, to facilitate a sharing of ideas, each GM had to create one major villain, one major villain group and provide a chapter of the world spanning criminal agency... these creations then became shared and anyone could develop plotlines with them... if the plotline was to be a major earth shattering event, all the GMs had to agree to the scenario... Since aliens were present in the campaign each GM also had to provide an alien race... the alien races were a little different from the other shared materials... the creating GM established certain things that the alien race would or would not do as a guideline for the race... the other GMs had to abide by these rules... The campaigns ran in the shared world were pretty good but eventually they fell apart due to some "control" issues... we all had some issues and needed to be more open and take less offense when others expressed an idea contrary to our own... I was a bit stubborn back then... ***** My suggestions for sharing a campaign setting is to get together and come up with the ground rules that run the world... develop some commonly shared villains, NPCs, etc... but reserve some space for each GM... if one of you likes the mutant hunting campaign or world spanning conspiracy or fighting street crime or mystic themed adventures then reserve that component of the campaign for yourself... that way each of you has an area that belongs to him and is a mystery to the other GM... One last word of advice... communicate... always try to listen to the other guy with out your own opinions getting in the way...

  18. Re: I know SOMEONE has done this... Did this back in 4th edition... took a bunch of competant normals and morphed them into low powered paranormals... they were hired to be the security team for a high tech company and got caught in a "radiation accident" during an attack on the facility... Each character was built to fulfill a roll on the team... the players were aware that their characters would change... but not how... I picked their paranormal abilities... the close combat specialist became a psuedo-brick... the ranged combat specialist an energy blaster... the investigator type gained invisibility... the jack-of-all trades gained five overall skills levels... the former paranormal who had lost his abilities regained his ability to teleport... Disads came from the disads of their employers... the company worked on the high tech superprison so it had a few paranormal enemies... The one thing that I would suggest, unless you know for sure that the players would not be upset with a campaign switcheroo, is discuss the campaign premise with the players before hand...

    Super cities

Re: Super cities These are the U.S. cities, resident group and year founded for hero groups in the Foundation Chronicles world. The Wardens are the PC's group. The New Americans, Blake Foundation and Goldstar Crusaders either were or were inspired by former PC groups. Washington, D.C. (Minutemen-1985) Philadelphia (Patriots-1985) Atlanta (Southern Front-1985) Boston (New Americans-1990) Houston (Houston Knights-1992) Los Angeles (Sentinels-LA-1994) San Francisco (Wardens-1996) Chicago (Blake Foundation-1997) Dallas (New Rangers-1997) New York City (Goldstar Crusaders-2001) Washington, D.C. (Team Yankee-1985) - This team is an exception, they are a US military counter-terrorism team of paranormals. They are officially based in Washington, D.C. but only operate outside of the United States.
  21. Adversarial group does not want their agents or equipment falling into authority hands... so each of their fanatical agents has a cortex bomb and the equipment has self-destruct mechanisms that destroy/burn out the circuitry... If these "self-destruct" systems only damage the agent and equipment, would you buy it as part of the character when constructing the agent? or is this a plot device? Thanks in advance for your input...
  22. Re: Post your Thor tributes. This was a PC inspired by "Thor" and created by Carl H. He was played in the third iteration of the Wardens Chronicles campaign. This version of the character is shortly before he retired to the Wardens' North Bay estate to take responsibility for the Kronians, who were under house arrest there. At North Bay, Leif took to running around in the "mystic warrior" identity all the time, so he lost the OIHID limitation (fortunately, he had become an NPC and didn't need to go on an experience hunting expedition. ) THUNDER - Leif Thorsen VAL...CHA...Cost...Total...Roll......Notes .8....STR.....-2...8/40....11-/17-...HTH Damage 1 1/2d6 / 8d6 END [1/4] 12....DEX......6...12/25...11-/14-...OCV 4/8 DCV 4/8 10....CON......0...10/25...11-/14- 10....BODY.....0...10/25...11-/14- 13....INT......3...13......12-.......PER Roll 12- 10....EGO......0...10......11-.......ECV: 3 10....PRE......0...10/25...11-/14-...PRE Attack: 2d6 / 5d6 16....COM......3...16......12- .2....PD.......0...2/14..............2/14 PD (0/6 rPD) .2....ED.......0...2/14..............2/14 ED (0/6 rED) .2....SPD......0...2/4...............Phases: 6, 12 / 3, 6, 9, 12 .4....REC......0...4/15 20....END......0...20/80 19....STUN.....0...19/45 .6....RUN......0...6"................END [1] .2....SWIM.....0...2"................END [1] .2....LEAP.....0 CHA Cost: 10 Cost...POWERS ......."Mystic Warrior" Form 18.....1) +11 REC (22 Active); OIHID (-1/4) 22.....2) +13 DEX (39 Active); No Figured Characteristics (-1/2), OIHID (-1/4) 17.....3) +15 BODY (30 Active); No Figured Characteristics (-1/2), OIHID (-1/4) 17.....4) +15 CON (30 Active); No Figured Characteristics (-1/2), OIHID (-1/4) 12.....5) +15 PRE (15 Active); OIHID (-1/4) 16.....6) +2 SPD (20 Active); OIHID (-1/4) 21.....7) +26 STUN (26 Active); OIHID (-1/4) 18.....8) +32 STR (32 Active); No Figured Characteristics (-1/2), OIHID (-1/4) - END=3 .5.....9) +6 ED (6 Active); OIHID (-1/4) .5.....10) +6 PD (6 Active); OIHID (-1/4) 24.....11) +60 END (30 Active); OIHID (-1/4) 12.....Blessed Armor of Asgard: Armor (6 PD/6 ED) (18 Active); OIHID (-1/4), Costs Endurance (Only ........Costs END to Activate; -1/4) - END=2 20.....Blessed Aura of Asgard: Energy Damage Reduction, Resistant, 50% (30 Active); OIHID (-1/4), ........Costs Endurance (Only Costs END to Activate; -1/4) - END=3 20.....Blessed Aura of Asgard: Physical Damage Reduction, Resistant, 50% (30 Active); OIHID (-1/4), ........Costs Endurance (Only Costs END to Activate; -1/4) - END=3 32.....Blessed Helm of Asgard: Flight 20" (40 Active); OIHID (-1/4) - END=4 20.....Blessed Life of the Oathsayer: Healing 4 BODY, Reduced Endurance (0 END; +1/2), Persistent ........(+1/2) (80 Active); Extra Time (Regeneration-Only) 1 Hour (-2 1/4), Self Only (-1/2), ........OIHID (-1/4) - END=0 27.....Thorsen Hammer: Multipower, 40-point reserve, (40 Active) 3u.....1) Psychic Hammer: EB 8d6 (40 Active); OIF Unbreakable (-1/2) - END=4 ...........[Notes: Thunder appears to throw the hammer at his adversary. His father, Erik, was a ship’s engineer for Skandia Cruise Lines. His mother, Bronwyn, was a ship’s steward for Skandia. She retired when Leif was born and moved to Thaneshall in upstate New York. Leif took a strong interest in his Nordic history and studied it throughout his school years. He graduated from Columbia University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Archaeology. He earned his Masters and Doctorate in Nordic History from the University of Oslo. Leif spent several years on archaeological digs throughout Scandinavia before taking a teaching position at the University of California at Berkeley in 1999. The Secret History of Leif Thorsson Leif spent a lot of time on digs and recovered many historical artifacts. It was on one such dig, near Trondheim, Norway, that his life took a turn that would forever change his life. Late one night while Leif slept, a mystical fog rolled in engulfing the camp. Leif walked out of his tent and was confronted by a group of men dressed in Nordic war gear. An older warrior stepped forward and proclaimed... "Leif Thor's son! You are kin of our kin and blood of our blood. Ours is a noble clan with a proud name. The old ways have passed from this world, as all things must pass, but an oath was sworn on my blood and the blood of my blood to the gods of Asgard. I swore that I would defend the way of the gods, my clan and our lands. In exchange for my oath, the All Father empowered my body to defend my clan and our lands for many years. Then when I was old, because I had faithfully held to my oath, I was allowed to enter Valhalla. But, because I had sworn by the blood of my blood, the gods of Asgard held my son and after him, his son to the same oath and so it has been for many sons of sons. Now, my son, it is your time for you are the heir of my blood and my oath. The gods of Asgard do not take oaths lightly. It is your choice to accept the oath and its responsibility or to you can deny the oath, which risks the wrath of our gods. What is thy decision?" Believing himself to be dreaming, Leif accepted the oath of his forefathers. The next thing he knew it was morning. Leif finished his fieldwork, returned to Oslo and finished his doctoral thesis. After getting his doctorate, Leif moved back to the United States. He was on sabbatical in New York City visiting a corner store when two would be robbers pulled a gun and demanded all the money. First fear, then anger swept over Leif. Then a new feeling swept over him, a feeling of incredible power filled Leif. Suddenly, he was standing there wearing Nordic war gear and holding a glowing war hammer. Leif has never been sure who was more surprised, the robbers or himself. It only took a few moments for him to subdue the robbers. Leif then left the store and in a few minutes, he reverted back to his normal form. Later that night while he slept, the old warrior returned to him and said... " ’tis a strange land that you call home my son. But, a new land is a new challenge. Your people are no less than mine were. There are always those that will prey on the weak and the weak will always need someone to protect them from the wolves of the world. Fear not, you will not be alone in your efforts to defend your land. I, the oathsayer, and the rest of your kin will be here to help you in times of crisis."
