  1. Re: JLA - CU Style Personally,I think that Millenium City would be a good stand-in for Metropolis. Evil gadgeteer levels a city which is rebuilt using the most advanced technology available? And what about the Amazons? Here is my take on the subject..... Empyreans and humans are interfertile, but most such hybrids do NOT have superhuman abilities, with the exception of the occasional woman who possesses both sets of the Empyrean genes.(Males can still pass on one of the genes, however.) Such women typically have immortality and superstrength (and occasionally flight),but are rarely as versatile as a true Empyrean. (Yes that's right! In such a campaign,Cateran would have some Empyrean ancestry.) In the times of ancient Greece, many such hybrids were born.Being oppressed by the patriachal society of the Greeks, they left to found their own country, one ruled by women.Using technology "borrowed' form their Empyrean ancestors, they managed to send their island "out of phase" with reality, thus making it inaccessible from "Man's World".
  2. Re: Character for Review: Blue Streak Speaking as a Champions veteran (having Champions I & II),reducing a Hero System's character's CON from 15 to 13 will NOT reduce REC or the character's CON roll.Furthermore, she only has 3" of Leaping in her normal ID,since two-thirds of her base Leaping comes from her 45 STR as Blue Streak.
  3. Re: Crisis of Infinite Foxbats After a deadly virus has transformed everybody else into vampires, the only human left alive is Freddy Foswell.Driven insane by the loneliness,he becomes (bum bum bum)..... THE LAST FOXBAT ON EARTH!!!!
  4. Re: A Guide To Villainous Motivations OK,here a few other villainous motivations: (1) Jealousy: Jealous villains think they are " the best at what they do".They CANNOT STAND anyone who beats them, and will try to kill anyone who does so. Their arch-enemies of course tend to be better than they are, which is why they're arch-enemies.the fairy-tale example would be the Wicked Queen in Snow White. (2) Survival: The villain(s) needs to commit crimes in order to survive. This at the very least, involves theft, but often involves murder (vampires being the classic example). If the heroes are dealing with a villainous RACE however, the goal is for the RACE to survive, not just one villain.
  5. Re: Character for Review: Blue Streak Actually, dropping base CON to 13,but keeping the same END & STUN & Leaping, actually saves 1 point.Assuming the same Power Modifiers on the slot, the slot becomes 1u 3) +30 Leaping at +1/2 END Cost,Only in Hero ID (-1/4),Horizontal Only (-1),no Noncombat Movement (-1/4).
  6. Re: Ultimate vs The Authority Yeah, but was Regis a cyberkinetic? If he was just a brick/telepath,then I would give a Midnighter clone a -1/4 Limitation on his combat abilities. (I'd also have every projective telepath he meets shutting him down,as well ).
  7. Re: The Authority:What the heck? Assuming that the Carrier really does take a couple of hours to travel to the Sun in realspace, then it's possible to work out its top speed, assuming it was travelling from Earth (or a known celestial body in the Solar System). Since it takes five hundred seconds for sunlight to travel one A.U. (the average distance between the Earth and the Sun),the Carrier must travel at an average speed of 500/7200 c,or 124,913,524.583(recurring) hexes/Turn. That's a cruising speed of approximately 0.0694 that of light!
  8. Re: The Authority:What the heck? Sorry to be a nitpicker, but I always thought that a base had to be fixed in one place. The Carrier surfs "The Bleed" between universes,so it can't be a Base (in Hero System terms),it's a Vehicle (much like SPECTRUM'S Cloudbase).
  9. Re: Ultimate vs The Authority I wouldn't exactly call Nexus mainstream.....
  10. Re: Ultimate vs The Authority I wonder if Wanderer ever read the Nexus comic series by Mike Baron & Steve Rude.Despite being set in a future where the Soviets are still around,it always seemed more plausible than the Authority comic. The reason why I asked is that he hasn't seen the Justice League cartoon, which should be compulsory viewing for every superhero fan. These characters AREN'T the Superfriends,as they actually show some brains once in a while.and no Wonder Twins anywhere within sight!
  11. Re: Crisis of Infinite Foxbats Nooooooo....................
  12. Re: Trivia... Bulldozer? Oh My God.....NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Aren't there more than enough stupid & boring game shows on TV as it is?
  13. Re: Converting DC to Hero Personally,I preferred the Mayfair DC Heroes RPG to the West End DC Universe RPG,as it seemed to better fit the genre. I'm including a pdf with this message with some notes for converting from MEGS (the name the Mayfair DC Heroes RPG was given after it lost the DC gaming license) to the Hero System.Hope they help.
  14. Re: The Case for Doctor Destroyer Sounds like a certain poster is confusing the 4th Edition versions with the 5th Edition versions of Menton,Mentalla & Doctor Destroyer. Not that I blame him -after getting Conquerors,Killers & Crooks,I found the 4th Edition versions of menton,Mentalla & Firewing far superior (or more interesting) to the ones presented therein.

    "Pull!"

Re: "Pull!" Actually,Sketchpad,i'd recommend anyone buying that sort of Teleportation to also buy it with the Position Shift adder so the victim can right himself (or herself) during the Teleportation.
  16. I'm considering converting a villain from 4th Edition to 5th Edition and I'm considering building him with a 45point VPP and two Naked Advantages (both with different Power Limitations) on the VPP itself. The first Naked Advantage is a Trigger on the first 40 Active Points on the Power and the second is the Reduced END Advantage. The problem I have is that the last five AP in the VPP are only to be used for Transforms & Ranged Drains, and I want the Reduced END Advantage to apply to all the VPP's powers EXCEPT Transform. How do I do this?
  17. Re: The Authority:What the heck? In fact it was this issue that confirmed my long-held suspicion that the Authority are nothing more than glorified supervillains.
  18. Re: Building Dementors The problem with that Power set is the fact that Harry Potter is highly Vulnerable to Dementors attacks (he faints upon his first encounter with them) and you've used an Entangle as the main attack power.I've always thought that it acted like an Ego Attack in the books.
  19. Re: I made the GM cry.... Actually, the idea of Frodo dropping the One Ring into Mount Doom has several obvious pitfalls- (1) The whole idea was to get the Ring destroyed WITHOUT Sauron finding out. Giant eagles flying over Mordor would be too detectable by the Eye. (2) How could they stop one of the Nine from grabbing the Ring in midair? (3) It's not easy to drop something precisely on target from a great height.Frodo would probably miss.
  20. Re: The Authority:What the heck? True enough.I can only explain the first plot hole by assuming that the current Doctor is a complete idiot who has no idea of the full scope of his abilities, but i can't explain away the two other major plot holes. And personally, the only Authority comic I'd buy would be a NEXUS VS. AUTHORITY comic written by Mark Baron and with Steve Rude artwork which features Nexus going after -and killing -the Authority.
  21. Re: Building Quasar The company he founded was called Vaughn Security Systems. From what I remember of the first issue,he's better with punches than kicks (for you Martial Artist fans out there).
  22. Re: The Authority:What the heck? So the Authority is the comics equivalent to the Borg?
  23. Re: HERO for the GURPS gamer The Fourth Edition of Fantasy Hero had a few pages of conversion notes for some popular Fantasy systems, including GURPS.I believe that Michael Surbrook has the Hero System/GURPS conversion notes on his website http://surbrook.devermore.net .
  24. Is it legal to have an Aid or Succor that can boost another slot in the same Multipower?Say,if a character has a 5d6 Succor (Standard Effect) at 0 END that boosts STR & one Movement Power simultaneously, could it boost another Movement Power in the same Multipower,if the Multipower had enough points in the reserve to apply to the power in question? (Say,if both powers were in a Multipower with 80 Active points & both Movement Powers were 15 Active Points or less.)
