  1. I've been harping on exactly this for years. Yes, we do need exactly this.
  2. If you go to DrivethruRPG, all of the Hall of Champions stuff is listed as published by Hero Games. Hero Games gets money for it; in theory I as a writer with products on there also get money for what I sell, but in practice I get it all in DTRPG product. Dirty secret time. My How to Play HERO System document plus the HERO System Resource Kit gets it even smaller. If I were to write a 5th edition version of it, it would even match edition wise.
  3. Darren Watts is secretly a member of the Knights Templar? I knew it! I made How to Play HERO System over on DTRPG. It's pay what you want!
  4. 9.8 meters per second squared, or thereabouts. 5" or 10m per Segment per Segment.
  5. I believe it was at Origins Game Fair 1981, which Wikipedia says was in July, so that's probably it.
  6. Probably a small bit of Telekinesis with Lockout (character's own limb). Possibly Stretching with the Does Not Cross Intervening Space (+1/4) Advantage. Probably other ways I'm not thinking of at the moment.
  7. There is some room for discussion. Probably a bit more into the weeds of theorycrafting than SteveZilla wanted to get into... So that we don't trigger Duke Bushido's standard rant about creation of light Let's say there's a power that costs 5 base points, no END, and lets you create a circle of light bright enough to read by, 3m in diameter, somewhere within 50 meters. A flashlight could make it an OAF. The user could turn it on and off at will. The 3m circle of light can be easily moved from one wall to another, or to the ceiling, or to whatever you have in your hand and want to see more clearly. You could turn on the flashlight and toss it somewhere, where it would sit there and glow; crucially, once you've done this, you can no longer turn it on or off, and someone else could pick it up, in which case they'd have the flashlight (OAF). The basic light spell from D&D. You can cast it on a spot (on the wall, ceiling, or floor), in which case it doesn't move; you can also cast it on an object -- a stick, pebble, or coin, in which case you can toss it somewhere to light up the area where you toss it, or you can put the pebble or coin inside a hooded lantern, in which case you have a portable light source that you can turn on or off. It will run down eventually (the spell expires). If you break the object, it may or may not end the spell; perhaps you have glowing bits of stick or rock dust. Not a Focus, not a Physical Manifestation. Let's say you have a hypothetical spell or power called small glowing orb of force. The spell creates one of those, about the size of a baseball. You can carry it with you, drop it inside a lantern, or toss it. If it's tossed, someone could step on it and smash it (doing 1 BODY) in which case it would vanish entirely, but you could easily cast the spell again. Physical Manifestation, not Focus (assuming it doesn't take any kind of material component to cast). Let's say you have a pouch with a dozen "glow grenades". You pull the pin and it starts glowing. You could carry it around with you or toss it; if someone else picks it up they could carry it around. It would run out after five minutes. You have a dozen of them, and they're a standard piece of adventuring kit; you can refill your supply at any general store. Focus? Maybe... "pouch of glow grenades", with 12 Charges. Physical manifestation? Maybe. If someone can break one that's in use, and cause it to stop working, that qualifies it for the Limitation. As with everything Hero, the final answer is "it depends".
  8. I'd argue that Focus means someone needs to pick it up in order to use it. Physical Manifestation means that the use of the power creates it, and then it's more or less independent until the power's duration ends or the Physical Manifestation is broken. I'd stick with Physical Manifestation.
  9. In the early 4th edition time period, I would imagine most of the updated characters were from 1st-3rd edition Enemies books, which were themselves pretty simple owing to fewer rules, fewer skills, etc. Some characters like Mechanon were already pretty complex from the beginning. 4th edition also started with 100 points base + 150 Disadvantages, which 5th edition changed to 200 points base + 150 Disadvantages. More points meant more stuff and more complex builds.
  10. Some of us have made things and sold them.
  11. U.S. now says no evidence of 'kill capture teams' at U.S. Capitol Both of these things can be true. Per their own words, many of the rioters did want to kill officials, and if they had found any they would have likely captured them first. That said, there doesn't have to be any evidence that they split into 'teams' to do this.
  12. What censorship are you talking about, specifically?
  13. My joke about the Bourne films is that there is a very secretive, federal level Department of Jason Bourne. Because there are all these bureaucrats and technical staff and so on, whose sole purpose seems entirely to be keeping track of Jason Bourne.
  14. There is no equivalency between the Black Lives Matter movement and a bunch of "patriots" rushing into the Capitol building threatening to kill members of Congress and the executive branch. Anyone who feels that there is, I want them to publicly say so and stand behind their words.
  15. BLM "riots" were people literally asking for cops to stop randomly killing Black people. The "riot" in Washington was a literal attempt to overthrow the lawful government of the United States of America. People died. There is no both sides there. Which side are you on?
  16. I'm sorry, but no. You don't get to minimize and "both-sides" a literal attempt to overthrow the US Government. Which side are you on, exactly? There is no middle ground with treason.
  17. That certainly is a strongly worded press release. From where I sit, it was a number of "nice" Republicans who managed to siphon off Democratic energy, activism, and dollars, to help "nice" Republicans win a number of down-ballot races Including switching several state legislatures from Democratic to Republican. In a census year. When congressional redistricting is done. By state legislatures. How many Lincoln Project supported candidates won in Congress? How many Lincoln Project supported candidates were part of the 100+ Congressional Republicans who attempted to overturn the will of the voters in Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania? I'm honestly curious.
  18. Anti-Trump conservatives need to be more bold in their criticism, and have needed to for the past four years. For that matter, so do Democrats. Passive aggressive, Twitter-sniping, media-litigating "resistance" hasn't done anything but given Trump more attention and allowed him to cast himself as the persecuted victim.
  19. I was specifically calling out federal elected officials, including POTUS, but also people like the Air Force veteran who died when she was shot, storming the Capitol as well as other veteran and active duty personnel. I am also an Air Force veteran, and that made me sick.
  20. I think I've posted before about a questionnaire given to wizards entering cities. Wizards are asked the following: Do you know the following spells or equivalents: suppress fire, cure disease, purify water, light, night vision. Do you know any kind of warning spells? Do you know any fire spells? Have you ever been banned from any city as a result of uncontrollable fires, or any other incidents related to fire? Do you know any death spells? This thread has inspired me to add summoning and banishment spells to the list.
  21. Not until there have been meaningful consequences for the conspirators and the rioters. They don't get to try to overthrow the government and then fall back on weak cries of "but unity!" They wanted unity, they should have supported and defended the Constitution of the United States of America against all enemies, foreign and domestic, like they put up their right hands and swore to, not join those enemies. No unity with traitors.
  22. In a heroic campaign where no points are paid for weapons (and where they have the STR Minimum and Real Weapon Limitations by default), the "base damage" for the weapon is its listed damage value (6e2 p. 99 under Toolkitting); its maximum damage is limited to double its base damage no matter how many methods are used to add damage (6e2 p. 199 under STR Minimum and 6e2 p. 201 under Real Weapon). Since you mention that it's a Heroic campaign, I'm starting with the assumption that the weapons in question are taken from a list (either in one of the books or provided by the GM), that the characters don't pay points for them, and that they include the STR Minimum and Real Weapon Limitations. The base damage would therefore be that of the weapon (2d6 in our case), and damage added by all other sources (including STR, Martial Arts Damage Classes, maneuvers, Skill Levels, Weapon Master) count toward its doubled maximum (which would be 4d6). The GM is given the option to allow more than double, at the risk of damaging the weapon; both STR Minimum and Real Weapon specify that the weapon would take the full amount of damage the weapon does to the target, and so would probably break. (A fist does not count as a Real Weapon for purposes of that Limitation, and is typically not considered to fall under the "double base damage" rule in any case; a fist's "base damage" is equal to the character's STR, along with any purchased Martial Arts DCs or Hand-to-hand Attack.) I hope this answers your question; if not, feel free to follow up with another Rules Question.
