  1. Re: Clever Future Weapons Oh, that's 50's-atomic-coolness right there. Kudos.
  2. Re: The Practice Effect I like the idea of an aid, because different people could have different levels of it.
  3. Re: The Ol' Cross-Genre Bait-and-Switch I frankly love the idea of gunslingers zapped into a planetary romance. Has a very Northwest Smith feel to me.
  4. Just got finished reading this book by David Brin. I was directed to it by TV Tropes, a great website. Bottom-line, the more a thing is used for a purpose, the better it gets for that purpose. This happens in an alternate universe, and the main character is a scientist, so at first he believes that there's a tweak to entropy. Won't spoil the rest of the novel here. But how would people feel about objects gaining experience? My thought -- you buy a sword. That sword, although purchased, is worth a real point value. The GM assigns xp specifically to the sword. When it acquires enough xp, it is treated as an item bought with xp. Then it starts to improve: plusses to OCV, DCV, damage -- either per the player's design, or perhaps a GM's template. What do you think?
  5. Re: The Death Note and How To Stop It **Spoilers** Misa had lost her memories when she gave away her Death Note the second time, never to get them back. Kira was a very public figure, and his sanction was clearly okayed at the highest levels, as alluded to in the warehouse showdown. One of the notebooks, the first in the series, was returned to the shingami that Ryuk STOLE it from. The second one: TOP men.
  6. Re: Cool Guns for your Games Beretta makes a nice carbine in 9mm, .40 and .45. Illegal in California, though, curse the luck. http://www.berettaweb.com/Beretta%20CX4_Storm/CX4_storm1.htm
  7. Re: The Law: Felonies and other crimes Basic criminal law hornbook might run you $50 new, maybe $35 used. It'll get you sorted.
  8. Re: Retropolis Transit Authority I love it. I don't think it's technically pulp -- it's more Gernsback. We need a whole new genre!
  9. Re: S&S in Renaissance Florence The Book "The Armor of Light" by Melissa Scott deals with a magical English Renaissance. Highly recommended.
  10. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... This happened to me ONCE. Almost twenty years ago. I'm running down an alley after armed bank robbers, with just a knife ('cause I forgot I wasn't armed and was on pure adrenaline). I see one of them holding my buddy dead to rights with a shotgun. I whip out my knife and throw it. A four -- half roll, full damage on the 1 1/2d6 rka. A thirteen -- torso crit. Guy gets a funny look on his face as he dies near instantly. One of my favorite memories, and got the character a rep that lasts until today, almost completely undeserved.
  11. Re: The Worst character in comics No mention of the Disco Dazzler? Who fought Galactus with her awesome sound-to-light powers? For shame!
  12. Re: Game of Thrones Too much wine. Too much Bakshi.
  13. Re: Gaming advice for 24/CTU? I live to serve. *bows*
  14. Re: Game of Thrones I actually ran SOIAF using the Dogs in the Vineyard rules, to get all the social stuff. Campaign was called "The Second Sons" for obvious reasons, with the tabard replacing the coat. All Valerian steel items had to be named -- one PC had the only piece of Valerian steel ever made into armor . . . lots of fun.
  15. Re: A DC/FH Hybrid - Help Build a World! I started a Victorian game based on "A Study in Emerald" by Neil Gaiman. You should read it immediately. I don't want to spoil it, but there was a invasion by magic types. In my game, each part of the world was subject to invasion in the wake of a huge event by various magic types -- demons in India, shapeshifters in Russia, and the PCs haven't gotten to the States yet. Right now, England is the only part of Europe where the humans haven't been dominated by magic entities. Move this along two hundred years, and you have something along the lines of your request.
  16. Re: Gaming advice for 24/CTU? How about leaving the positions open, and filling them with Followers? Then each PC would have a techie on his side, but the NPCs -- watch out for them!
  17. Re: Martial Arts sub-genre settings? This idea kind of goes the other way, but I can't get away from the sound of it: Cowboy Wuxia Every cowpoke his own philosopher . . . doing incredible, physics-bending gunplay . . .
  18. Re: Concepts You Just Can't Build on 350 points. Really the question is too easy. The Infinity Gauntlet alone could not be built on points.

    Superman

Re: Superman What about the all-important cleavage window? It's absent from the Power Girl writeup! Hmm . . . Linda Danvers . . . any relation to Carol?

  21. Re: Fallout Perks A - C Sure, please do.
  22. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... From my recent SteamPunk game: "And how would a Victorian Scientist come up with a name like 'Bubba'?" "It was mathematically inevitable." "Treason. It's a seven-letter word beginning with T . . ." ". . . and ending with your life." "Where did all these giant intelligent rats come from?" "Well, when a mommy giant intelligent rat and a daddy giant intelligent rat meet at a disco . . ."
  23. Re: Fallout Perks A - C All excellent points, and I went round and round mentally about the "ghoul" deal, then decided it would be a precursor perk . . . um . . . which I haven't designed yet. And your criticals are better than mine. Looking forward to FO3.
  24. Re: Campaign History, how did yours become dark? I went with a combination of uber-PC-ness and fiscal crisis -- especially in the Bay Area, where no one seemed to want the police around anyway. When the official LE realized that the only way not to be sued is to not try to stop crime, and local pols decided to award each other big contracts instead of paying for basic services, the whole thing went to hell.
