  1. Re: Around the World With A New Character Each Week Tribe, would you mind if I tossed you back a mystic Greek super that I've got going? I'd have to write out his backstory and actually finish his Disads (because the GM wasn't worrying too much; he was testing a module for Origins. Man, did I out-wow Chuck Norris in that one. )
  2. Re: Usagi Yojimbo Hero Just as a historical footnote... Usagi is patterned after Myamoto Musashi, the famed swordsman of the Book of 5 Rings fame. Funny thing, though--even though he was trained to be one of the few samurai in Japan to effectively use both swords at the same time, he only did it rarely. You can see this kind of training in Usagi, when he uses both his katana and saya at the same time. Perhaps some sort of multi-CSL to reflect that?
  3. Re: Creation Myth Man... I really need to get a better grip on the mythology of Eight Sages--I haven't been able to decently come up with a way to figure out how the Land that became the Empire came to being--I know it was made as a barrier between the Heavens and the Many Hells, but I don't have any specifics other than the eight Heavenly Sages themselves creating the known races of the Empire as a security measure.
  4. Re: Uberworld - New Site I already pointed 'em out to the new site, but a reminder is always welcome.
  5. Re: Racial Restrictions on magic builds In the Eight Sages world, each one of the eight races have an enhanced "chi" effect based on one of the eight energies that infused the very land. In terms of magic-casting, aside from their inherent minor ability, they have a minor bonus to that particular school of chi magery--Dragon-kin would be better at Fire-oriented spells, f'instance. I set this as basically an extra +2 to the Spell skill roll, in an inherent talent. (PCs can have another "chi talent," as a wierd quirk of being birthed in a particularly heavy chi-flow different than their own inherent chi, but this is rare overall.)
  6. Re: Usagi Yojimbo Hero Hrmm... if Jei (or some variant of thereafter,) is introduced in a game, then the GM needs to decide specifically what he/she is. Stan is the only one who knows specifically what Jei's origins lie, and I don't think he'll be telling us any time soon.
  7. Re: Usagi Yojimbo Hero Not bad, although I'd have run it as a Cinematic game, not WuXia. You can make a decent game of it using just ordinary people and a few good swordsmen (so to speak.) A note... The Japan entry in AB2 isn't really complete, per se, so you might want to fill in the gaps there. For example, I have not seen a serious mention of the hebi, a giant snake said to be able to turn into a human at times--although there are entries in AB1 that would allow this sort of changes to create this particular orochi hengeyokai. Perhaps a short fill-in-the-holes to help people in building mystic monsters for UY HERO?
  8. Re: Your "2006" Pet Gaming Projects A quick note of change: The old UberWorld site's server crashed and burned--so they got onto a better one now. It's at http://www.uber-world.com now.
  9. Re: Adventuring Archetypes Because they're tight and slippery... hah! Just kidding. Acually, they help us pin down concepts, and give us some sort of direction on how to develop the character. Nothing to it. Now prestige classes... that's fairly silly, with the huge amount that is out there. But I see them as a form of specialization--it's just a question of how detailed the world ends up. I'm perfectly happy with just the builder books--that's detailed enough for me. Hrmm... how about stuff like... a herald, a crafter of magical arms and gear, and a beast tamer? I can see some interesting culture coming from those three alone...
  10. Re: Review my Spell Lingering, from Fantasy Hero does that. Alternatively, look at Fantasy Grimore at the usage of Uncontrolled in the spells there.
  11. Re: Wow....that is a useless power for sure.... I'd have fun with Taste: Ranged. I'd go and taste all the lovely ladies in sight. Would get old, though. Personally, in the vein of Rainbow Pee Boy, I'd say that the ability to turn your pee into a pure form of an alcoholic beverage of your choice would be fairly useless... not to mention not worth the effort to use it.
  12. Re: WWYYCD: The Rally Khronos would defintly be in the fray. He hates the idea of supporting the KKK, but he's there to keep casualties to a minimum. Given that he can keep at least one in his grip (as a Growth brick at 6 levels,) it would be reasonable that he might have one of the weaker ones in custody. Of course, in keeping with the theme, they'd have run off. But tracking at least one down is not hard--if one left something of themselves, a quick, cheap Detect based on a "synedoche" divination spell would be possible. (I haven't done it yet, but when you have a copy of the Grimore on hand, I can look-see if it's possible.) He'll bring "Ed" along, his newly-formed team's little Chinese mentalist and together they'd try and see if it was personal or some form of mass-control. After that? Who knows?
  13. Re: Can you "pull" PRE? Khronos has, by default, 15 PRE. I gave him the Will of the Titans +25 PRE charateristic, linked to his Might of the Titans (Growth) power. Because, as part of his shtick, he keeps one level of Growth on, he has 40 PRE only when he's playing hero.
  14. Re: WWYYCD: The Rally Hrmm... Khronos would, theoretically, decline--freedom of speech and all--but it isn't below him to mock the KKK in whatever ways he can. I mean, even a small 10-point Magic Pool can do a lot... can anyone say Images of a large downward arrow and the words "COMPLETE LOSERS" above them? He'll still be on hand in case crowd control is needed.
  15. Re: Ben 10 (again!) The new form's "Wild Vine." And I have to say that's a cool ner hero to play with!
  16. Re: WWYCD: Evil in Innocence Pretty much all but one of my characters would try to get an unorthodox solution performed--bind a willing angel to the kid. Who knows what might happen? Khronos (a new one I'm working on for a local game!) was a god himself, but he can still do a little work on his own... He'll try and isolate--or at least suppress--the demonic portion into a more-or-less corpreal form using what he recalls of his small magics. Given that it's bound to the kid's soul, it may prove far more difficult than he is capable--but as long as there's a way to do that, he can then just chuck it through his Doorway Into Time power and shoot it out in, oh, another millenia or so. Given that he lost most of his powers through being chrono-locked within his own Doorway, this will be far more effective.
  17. Re: City of Hero System Powers Invulnerability is just darn good Armor and Damage Reduction. Toss in an Aid to Armor, Only for (damage Type), and you have something like it. I do want to build Seven of Spades in HERO some time, though. Just not much appeal to it right now.

    The Five

Re: The Five *showers OddHat with plenty of movitating mojo he stole--er, borrowed from some passing trolls... *
  19. Re: WWYCD: Mirror Universe For the sake of coherency... people can use the entry of Janus from Teen Champions as a reference point--it speaks of a mirror Earth that is, of course, a true mirror universe. Put it simply... Dr. Destroyer == Dr. Preserver.
  20. Re: Champion Battlegrounds: What do you think? Holocaust & cronies are meant to be tough. The whole scenario is designed to challenge the PCs, both tatically and roleplay-wise. Lemme look at it again at a later point in time, and I'll get back to you on it. Do run the Theme Park one, though. It's just that good, and begging for some "enhancements" of your own. Similarily, you can re-use FoxbatBoy and FoxbatGirl for more silly Foxbat jobs.
  21. Re: Elder Races... Dragons. More specifically, the Great Elder Wyrms variety. These suckers are old, even by elven standards. They've seen it all, and work in power schemes against each other that are levels way higher than most people can comprehend. They can manipulate societies like water, for they have planted the seeds of their involvement when it was nothing more than a small hamlet in the wilderness. They can call on power that feels god-like in comparison. And this is just the tip of the iceberg. Who knows what can happen if they work together? I think that promoting an Elder race is a matter of scope. They, and those before them, are steeped in history and secrets that give them a unique perspective of the world around them.

    The Five

Re: The Five May I suggest in the notes a little something about how they see each other? Their opinions, their issues with each other's habits and styles? That would give them even more color, IMO.
  23. Re: Just thinking. A possible enemy of zombies. But what if it's a magical critter? Consider two possibilities... One is a scavenger from the Positive Energy Place (or some "holy" attribute.) Oh, look. Free food! And it walks! Another is a bit more morbid, but understandable. Give the critter a small animate dead power--it gets a loyal minion and it's a traveling food source!
  24. Re: How would you use Takofanes? Personally, I haven't read up on Ol' 'Fane at all, but... a good way to use him is to consider just how freakin' old he is. Perhaps he's spent enough time to realize that being an arch-lich just doesn't cut it anymore. Perhaps he's realizing how tired he is, but he's too stubborn to truly lie down. Perhaps his slumber was an early attempt to destroy himself, without resorting to more devastating methods. But now he's forced to. Take it from there, and think about he could find a way to undo his own lich-dom. Make it big and nasty.
