  1. Re: Side Effects attached to FociAnother idea would be to take this as a Susceptibility. Takes xD6 when Focus is stolen, lost, broken, or otherwise violates manufacturer's warranty.
  2. Re: Teleporting with an unwilling "passenger" There's more involved than just the distance. "Gee, darn, sorry you just landed in front of that approaching freight train..." :)But, in general, as long as it's managed, it's probably not unbalanced for the cost.
  3. Re: Strength at Range vs. Stretching Please, let's not start that debate again!
  4. Re: IHA HelpRemember, they think that they're threatened by mutantkind. Perhaps something that reflects that perception? Human Defense League? Human Survival Brigade? Not sure.Of course, until I saw this thread, I was going to stick with Genocide for the current campaign. Thanks so much for derailing me...
  5. Re: Crucial Help Needed You do. It's called "GM's authority". Invoke it. Revel in it.
  6. Re: Why can't Teleport do the Move attacks?I'm a bit puzzled as to why we think Nightcrawler's actions in X2 constitute Move By / Move Through. He 'ports into position, makes an attack. Next phase, he does it again. I think what you're seeing as a 'Move By' is actually a reflection of Nightcrawler's very high SPD relative to the Secret Service agents. He might get 3, possibly 4 actions (depending on the build) for every one the agents get. Hence, his actions could be modeled perfectly well just by using the normal SPD chart. IMO.

  8. Re: Crucial Help NeededMost of what I would say has already been said on this topic. There is one angle you might try. If the players in question have anything resembling a conscience, you can try appealing to it. Point out to Limitation Lass that all those Limitations mean she winds up with more raw power than anyone else - which isn't fair unless you enforce the Limitations. Point out to Combat Wombat that his actions are bringing unfavorable attention on the entire team, which will hurt their mission. If they have no conscience (which is possible), this won't work. In that case, you can rely on in-game pressure (cops, courts, rival hero teams) or peer pressure (getting the players who are behaving to help you out) to attempt to correct the situation.Unfortunately, being a GM requires that you be willing to say "no" to a player - even if his feelings might be hurt - because allowing him to ruin the game for everyone else cannot be allowed.Be strong. Be cruel. Be cold. Or, simply be fair. However you want to interpret it.
  9. Re: Mentalist QuestionThere's a specific rule that the willing target can lower his ECV, but I don't believe there's a standing rule about lowering one's EGO. You could always impose a house rule if you want to make it legal.
  10. Re: Girlfriend troublesUnless it's generally known that he is connected to that specific girlfriend-of-the-week, I wouldn't think it would be worth any points. If it were, then perhaps the Public ID Social Limitation would work.
  11. Re: Down with active pointsI don't generally treat AP limits as "limits" - I treat them as guidelines, and a starting point for evaluating effectiveness. (I don't generally impose hard caps on things, but just ask the players to try to stick to a certain value.) As many others have pointed out, just using AP as a gauge of effectiveness is basically wrong. Even 5ER points this out, and details "rule of X" as a possible additional option.
  12. Re: Young Nerd Outreach Program Yeah, geek is chic. :)So how do we associated RPGs with "geek" instead of "nerd"? The "geek" title is often associated with computer technology, which, in the last 10 years, has become much "cooler" than it was previously (primarily, IMO, from the fact that it's a whole lot easier for the average person to use than it used to be). Maybe DOJ can include a demo copy of HERO Designer with each 5ER purchase? Just a thought...
  13. Re: Storn's Art & Characters thread.
  14. Re: Hitler in a jarBoy, does this bring back memories. I had an old Captain America comic years and years ago where Hitler's brain had been preserved and implanted in a superpowered body, genetically engineered by Neo-Nazis. Fit nicely with Cap's history (he did, after all, fight the Nazis in WWII).
  15. Re: [Newbie] problem figuring out this power That's the point of a pun. You're supposed to be the only one laughing. A pun's quality is directly proportional to the groans solicited from the audience...
  16. Re: [Newbie] problem figuring out this power Thorn, the plant/human hybrid supervillain from CKC, has:Entangle (OIF: Plants / vines of opportunity)Summon (same OIF)Mind Control (Plant class of minds)Stretching (vines / tendrils)Some combination of these should do what you're looking for.
  17. Re: To agree or disagree with Steve's answer Well, I generally put a delayed return rate on adjustment powers, so I'm not sure it's likely to matter too much for me. Then again, it will probably help the PCs to do it the way Steve suggests, given that some of the villains don't have delayed return rates...
