I rather liked the piano theme for the 1978 Incredible Hulk TV series.

Actually ... en route to learning assembly, we did some dabbling in raw octal.  The assembler converting assembly code into machine language was a pretty obvious thing, actually.  Just easier for a human to read and write assembly, though I can see the attraction of using barenaked octal, as in the saga of Mel the Real Programmer.
 
The thing I never learned was the underlying mechanisms in implementing virtual memory.  I stopped learning close-to-the-metal programming when I went off to grad school.  At least at the time, physicists often needed extremely fast response (which you only get with assembly and, maybe, custom instrumentation), while groundbased astronomy needed high quantum efficiency (and that comes out of the solid state physics of the detectors) so astronomers generally weren't as concerned with flat-out computational speed in their instruments.  The analysis and theory codes, yes, but you aren't writing assembly then.

Fantasy rpg session ... the bad guys are a huge coagulating giant of toxic sewage that rises out of the polluted lake, with a back-up band of power pukers to hurl toxic sludge at the PCs while the sewage giant whales on them and they join the decaying sludge at the lake bottom....
 
A pity I only thought  of this three minutes ago ... that back-up band is AC/DC and the opening of hostilities is the iconic lyric

Last week I bought a liter of tequila and two liters of margarita mix, sensing a latent unspoken desire for such things in the household.  Sure enough, there's a fingertip of tequila left, but the mix was finished off yesterday.  A couple of people were having the mix with orange juice rather than tequila.  I will speak harshly about such lassitude once everyone is out of bed.

The red rush is damned and the fire sputters within the gray chalice. The song approaches its crescendo but the singer has no strength. Gaia's circle shrinks and the lines are barbed. I shut my eyes but fear the rest.
