  1. Re: 'So wait, how do I hold this thing?' I read it the way I read all books, curled up in the pillows and blankets on my bed. I'm what one might refer to as a "nester" I build a nest of beding stuff, curl up and get comfortable, and read until I fall alseep... or until someone ungraciously drags me out =P
  2. Re: Electromagnetic Pulse my electric dragon gives off a biological EMP when frightened. In her normal environent this would disrupt her electrical signiture by with other larger predators would track her...in the Sci-Fi setting it screws with electronics...which she can also drain. It's concept is she pushes outward the electric forcefield that she generally has around herself, and the pule of the field expanding causes the EMP We built it as follows: Slot 4 Was that supposed to work? EMP – Dispel 5d6 – All electronics (+2), Area Effect (+1 6†Range), X4 Cumulative (+1), No Range (-1/2), Full Phase (-1/2), Must Follow Force Field on Dispel (-1/4), x1.5 END (-1/4) [75 AP] [11 END] you can take off or add whatever you want, since I doubt your machine will follow the same rules or limitations
  3. Re: The Quintessential BODY ah, but such things are justifications now aren't they Most wizard characters I've made use charms and spells that last all day or until they take them off to bolster thier defenses or give them the body they might nee to avoid death. It is not inherently a part of them. Spells and magic items are the be all and end all of stat inflation ^^ But yes, I understand what you mean.
  4. Re: [Rules-fu] Resistant Power Defense that's what I thought, thnx. it would still seem though that it is the defending player that pays the price but then.... ok 6d6 energy blast, I need a max of 12 PD or ED to block the body of so that would cost me at most, needing 12 PD or ED, 12 points. a 2d6 RKA I also need 12 PD/ED resistant to block entirely, but this would cost me more than that (at work, not gonna post a number I can't check ) (if I went the Damage resistant route it would cost me 24 points total (for 12 PD or ED)) It seems that it is a benifet to require the opponent to buy resistant defenses to defend themselves because it costs them more points to do so... o_O it makes so much sense looking at the attacks from the perspective of an attacker...but it still seems unbalenced looking at the attack from the view of the defender. *falls over*
  5. Re: Your Character's Room at the Base Umm, well my character in the game we're playing now does have a room on the star ship we travle on. Zekari's "Cave" It's big, big enough for an enourmous dragon to stand and walk around in (X 8 human size). It's devoid of all furniture except a large pile of shiney miscellaneous things under a big red shiney blanket. Items include, gems, bottle caps, the faucet to the prison ship sink she stole in the second session. Behind it is a rather large repaired stain glass window depicting the pelican piercing it's breast. It was originally picked up when by accident she crash landed through the window when she was much smaller. She has no idea what it is or means, but thinks it's pretty. Her room is located right across from the ship's brig, the door has no windows and it is lovingly marked by a sign that says "Loot" She also lays claim to the ships walk in freezer, where she tends to take naps in the afternoon and snacks on the meat that's stored there. If you can't find her in her room, she's probubly in the freezer. Being a lightning dragon she prefers high altitudes and is more acustomed to cold temperatures. She also pays daily visits to the goats and animals that are kept on board for her. She has a lot of disadvantages that deal with agression and food, and has been known to eat sentients and crew memebers. The other PCs sometimes like to try to capitalize on this one
  6. Re: [Rules-fu] Resistant Power Defense it seems to me that KA's don't bypass all defenses that are not resistant. If you have 1 point of resistant defense then all of your defense counts toward the attack. So it costs effectively 1 point for damage resistance to negate the "bypasses non resistant defenses" That's not all that much in the long run. but then I could be mistaken.
  7. Re: The Quintessential BODY I tend to find that low body is more than fine if the character has decent defenses. My dragon character from the scifi game (small dragon, size class enormours) only has 16 body, roughly equivalent to a light war horse, which is roughly how big the bulk of her body is minus the wings and tail. She also has high defenses, total defenses without electrical force field is around 10 resistant (for chest vitals, and tail hits) and 8 resistant (for others), with forcefield (wich costs X2 endurance to maintain) is 18-20 resistant, 10 of that hardened. (this may seem like a lot but this character cannot ever buy more armour unitl she grows, which will not happen over the course of the game. She also cannot wear equipment and will not...cultural taboo.) Her defenses (not FF) were bought with damage resistance instead of armour, so stunning her is much easier than hacking off one of her limbs, which in my opinion is a much better option, since the dragon scales really just make it hard to penatrate her skin, not reducing impact damage. If I had given her more body she would be impossible to kill in the setting that we are currently playing in. Besides, the 16 is more than enough. I think the most body she has taken year to date is 2, granted she's only actually been hit by attacks maybe 4 times (extra DCV while in Flight). My largest dragon maxes out it's BODY at 30. But it also has 35 resistant defenses, with 10 hardened, and 75% damage reduction against physical blows. I do not have anything with more body than that. under most circumstances having an excess ammount of body isn't rellay neccisary. You can effectively double your body/stun by buying damage reduction, which IMO is the better way to go. As a general rule I don't allow characters to buy extra body beyond 14 without a good reason which they need to clear by me. The local frail looking wizard doesn't need to have 20 body under most circumstances. I do advocate extra body instead of damage reduction and defenses for the following: A character who always takes damage and visably so, but for whom said damage is irrelevant until there is so little left of them they finally fall apart. Thus they take the damage, and they show it, but they wont dies until you've hacked them up into tiny pieces. If you want a really tough one of those, maybe you could give it extra body only to not die.
  8. Re: [Rules-fu] Resistant Power Defense all I have to say about lottery abuse is this... 2d6 RKA, piercing, autofure 10 +X CSLs only to counteract called shots to the head ouch.... (yes roy...I'm looking at you...)
  9. Re: Telepaths Must Die! they'd have to have a very high ego, or never command them to do anything until the time was right. Kinda like brainwashing...That would be creepy...but then enough money does the same thing IMO
  10. Re: A Thread for Random Musings I went to a wedding on saterday. It stormed like nobodies business until right before the ceremony ended. It was so much fun though.
  11. Re: Musings on Random Musings that's more of a biological weapon, much like in Scholock Mercenary when Dolt gets cloned and uses "biological" weapons, like his crap is plastic explosives and he pees flame thrower.... Yeah, explosion...not vent
  12. Re: Musings on Random Musings don't worry bout it, is fixed now. I'm not one to hold a grudge ^^ just needed to vent.
  13. Re: Hero is broken I never said I didn't have a solution I just said I didn't have one that satisfied me. I do have house rules for the situation they are discussing, as well as for a slew of other things and I have used them before (so count me in the 1% where this dicussion would apply). Work does get done, I have some new concepts on my desk at home slong with character sheets, concept art, and tons of other things. Sometimes I even make new rules or write out possible new concepts after reading other's discussions due to insired creativity. I don't use them all though. And while there is some repeating there is also plenty of new thought. (I guess you must hate philosophy) Sorry you've never seen it (the work getting done I mean), but then I'm not sure I buy that, especially for all the things you spend so long talking about or the house rules or modifications you always talk about having. but eh.
  14. Re: Hero is broken IMO a brilliant person is one who thinks of something that most people don't on a level that most people can't and does it well. But that wasn't the point. The point was that intelligent people can find a flaw in the system and soend years trying to figure out how to change it. Discussing for lengths the reasons why it should be changed, what other people think about it, how they would choose to change it, or even if it actually needs to be changed, is a viable step toward finding a solution to that flaw. They don't have to already have a solution of be good points either. Arguing can lead to creative thought. It can also lead to red faces and frustration. Besides, an arguement usually denotes hostility. This is more like a discussion or a debate, than an actual argument. Besides, the process is rewarding in and of itself, and I find such things interesting to read. Especially since I've been on both sides.
  15. Re: Hero is broken what about the people who have contemplated the problem and realized they aren't brilliant enough to come up with a solution on thier own? Or who want help doing so? Why not have Brilliant seekers? Who are smart enough to find a break point and then try to think of a way to change it, but have no solution yet. Not everything that doesn't come up in most games isn't worth seeking out, and not everyone is capable of making a change where they desire one. Besides if it leads to no solution then this is much like the game itself, a thought exercise. What's wrong with thought exercises? Personally I would like an answer to the scale question. I do have instances where it would come up, and it would help scale down the dice I have to roll and some pretty messy fudging. The other problem I have with these classifications is that those who offer deep thought aren't clueless unless they offer something that is completely a$$backwards, or thoughtless, or wrong. Clueless whiners and Brilliant seekers occur. No harm, no foul. Have fun discussing theory and philosophy too fox. Cause all of the people in the world who ever have are just brilliant whiners too, who come up with no real solutions other than making people think. Which is comendable in and of itself.
  16. Re: [Rules-fu] Resistant Power Defense I certainly don't have a problem with allowing resistant defenses like mental defense. Infact honestly it makes sense. Some mental powers are supposed to kill those they are used on by overloading thier brains, or even ripping them apart metaphisically. Normal training to avoid control wont do that, just like normal physical physique doesn't defend against a knife. If you want resistant to those kinds of mental powers, then I think it's reasonable to make you buy resistant mental defense, just as a person mut by armor or resistant PD to avoid damage from claws or teeth. Besides, if you are buying mental defense, you should think about resistance if necesarry. If you don't buy it, then you don't have it. If you haven't bought any mental defense (because it's not in character or makes no sense) then you're SOL. I really don't see how it's any different from buying normal resistand PD/ED or armour for that matter. Other than the fact most people don't bother to buy it. I have built a coupel characters with resistant flash defense for sight and hearing due to a few other characters with piercing flash attacks (i.e. bright enough to get you even through your sunglasses) because they have ways to counteract such things through biological means. It's not unreasonable. I have also built AVLD mindtearing attacks for my NPCs but shhhh don't tell them else they may get wise and buy defenses they can't justify having...or worse make a character who can justif having them and spoi my fun! (j/k)
  17. Re: What is your ideal sized hero group I have yet to play in a game smaller than 9...my current game is 11, and it works out fine because we are all for the most part willing to wait our turns and to carry out unimportant character interaction without demanding the GM's time..which he appreciates but sometimes wishes he could get in on. I would prefer to run a game with 3-6 players, and more preferably 4 because I like depth and it allows me to give them al the time they need. I believe that right now I have 5 players for my upcoming Sci-fi/HighFantasy partyless game (some have dropped due to time and another has dropped to help Tech GM). Wich should make for a difficult but enjoyable learning experience.
  18. Re: Storn's Art & Characters thread. I'll rep em for yah till you get your powers back! Awsome work as always!
  19. Re: how to make this power you could try mental transform, his mind to mine, with the side effect mental transform my mind to his. Or you could link the two powers together. both with the special effect of him actually "switching bodies" with his enemy. But I'm not sure how to build it so that you can switch back automatically. Eventually they would heal back the stat and revert to the way they were...but a GM could over rule that, they could also let you turn back or retain the power when in the other person's body. dunno, tjhat's my guess.
  20. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... heh, that's ok. I have a friend whose name is as follows: fist name initial = A middle name initial = L first 4 letter in last name = Rect now the chool logins were the first 4 letters of our last names, then the first initial of our firsname and finally the first initial of our middle.... Her loggin was great for a few laughs.
  21. Re: A Thread for Random Musings I feel very bad now, not because I have done something wrong or because I am sick. I can no longer respect someone whom I greatly respected on these boards not longer than a few days ago...whom some of my friends that I know on the boards also respected. It makes me sick that my friend looked up to him, wanted to be as insiteful as him... This should not be... This should not be...
  22. Re: A Thread for Random Musings unfortunately what makes people do that..is that they are people. I understand what you mean, there seems to have been a rash of wars recently on the posting boards, and all of them were the result of posters I had seen in such wars before...it worries me. I don't want to have to worry about being attacked for haivng a different opinion on something. Afterall it's just an opinion. I can say I think something is crap, but you don't have to prove me wrong. Here, how about this. I don't tell you that your opinions don't matter, and you don't tell me that? Or I don't tell you that your opinion is stupid, and you stop trying to convince me you're right? I mean...this goes along the lines of what I think about religion. You have yours, I have mine. We can both tell each other all about it. I'll even welcome the pointing out the flaws on mine. But don't try to get me to convert.
  23. Re: Help with a power please maybe "shoot at where I was" instead of "Shoot at me" cause otherwise they will track you, instead of shooting the way they would have if you didn't move.
