I'm sure it was traumatic. I suggest said individual avoid his triggers in the future by never being a cop again, never holding a gun again, and never being in a position of life or death again if he can possibly help it.

Yeah, generally, I like one superhero= 1 secret ID.  I don't like one leaving, and someone taking on "the mantle".  Not that it cant be done, but as a general rule.

THough while I don't generally care about using minorities or not.   I have to make an exception on THor.  The Norse god of thunder has to be a dude.   You've got plenty of goddesses you can use, if you want a female character.

Elba's a good actor. I haven't read the source material, but I thought it was a post-apocalyptic setting, so race shouldn't really be an issue. Unless there's a good reason that the character can't be black (certain historical settings, for instance), picking a good actor for the role should be the priority.

WB/DC has not filled me with confidence in their ability to manufacture a cinematic superhero universe that I enjoy. All that their filmic attempts at comic book adaptation have shown me is that they have had their heads up their arses for the better part of a quarter century. Snyder's Superman film did not do anything to convince me otherwise. Why should I suddenly be filled with optimism?

I like the casting of Gadot (so far). She looks great to me in all the press materials and trailers. But then, Snyder's problem has never been casting or visuals. I'm just not looking forward to the grimdark Justice League they're setting up. But maybe that's just me.

I'll just be over here enjoying Agent Carter instead, tyvm.

(BTW, I loved Daredevil and Jessica Jones, but intense and noir-ish do not equal grimdark, especially given the undercurrent of optimism, hope, empowerment, and unstoppable determination that pervaded both shows.)

I'm now imagining that cop that did a high-school safety demonstration with a glock, explaining that he was the only one in the room with the training to handle it right, who then shot himself in the foot.

And then I'm imagining him doing it with nunchucks.

There are a lot of people who are police officers who should not be.

As angry as some of these videos make us, we should be pleased that they are coming out. In the past, police did this sort of thing with no repercussions at all. At least it is beginning to change.

Poor "exemplar" then, because both you and the author are leaping to a massive conclusion with no evidence to back it up other than a hunch.

I remember one time when I was going up the escalator from a BART station on the way to work. I had a messenger-type bag with one of those old mutant phone/radio things stuffed into the water bottle carrier. It tended to slip out, and when I reached back to stuff it back in, an indignant black girl behind me tore into me because she thought I was securing it in case she was going to steal it.

She was jumping to the exact same conclusion the mother who wrote that anecdote did, and that you are. And it's easy to do. It's very easy to be oversensitive to racial bias when it's thrown in your face every day. But . . . jumping to conclusions is still jumping to conclusions.

Attributing thoughts and feelings to a person without any evidence whatsoever is wrong.

The only conclusion that we can draw from the story posted is that a woman seriously overreacted to her daughter being accidentally harmed. That's it. There's not enough information available to make any other inferences.

Yeah but we don't know if it was because the child was black, a boy, or it that was wholely unrelated. And it isn't that we don't know but don't even have reasonable suspicion. And the police who were called didn't respond because it was a black boy but because they were called. The mother of the girl was likely an immigrant given her inability to speak English and thus her personal racial basis, at first glance, wouldn't serve as good indicators for US cultural norms. It is just as likely if not more so, that the root cause was because of the gender difference and the kinds of stereotyping that happens against boys. But even then we are at a stark loss for evidence.

Don't get me wrong, I don't mind pointing out racist cops, but I reserve my outrage for casea where I can actually make a case. This doesn't offer us that chance without a strong accusative leap.

What do we keep hearing? Oh, right: black males (boys, teens, and men) look older than their age.

Surely the mother that called the police confused the other mother's son for a surly six-year old ?

Disputes between directors and studios are common in Hollywood. That doesn't necessarily mean one side or another is unusually difficult to work with. Whenever you have more than one creative, strong-minded person with a vision involved in a project, there are bound to be disagreements. And those disagreements will color their perceptions of the parties involved. (I have to note that I've yet to hear Kevin Feige say anything negative about any past Marvel directors.)

I remember that after Iron Man 3 came out, Feige revealed the studio worried over how what Shane Black wanted to do with the Mandarin would be received by the fans. They let him do it anyway.

And honestly, more than once I've read negative comments about Marvel attributed to an actor or director, which said actor or director later disavows ever having made. Some people in the industry make a business out of stirring up controversy.

This provides an "animated series" level Superman.  I also have 350, 450, and 700 point writeups that add progressively more skills, a few more power slots, and a larger Aid.  It was important for me to keep the base Clark Kent stats the same, and for the power construct of the Aid to remain the same as well.

Our gaming area has a history of fairly abusive Champions players.  This gives a Superman at the appropriate point level who actually feels like Superman.  He's also powerful enough to take on a team of book Champions characters at his own point level.

This writeup has more disads than necessary.  That's because he just has that many.  He doesn't get extra points or anything.  That's the price he pays for such a cheesy build.

The kryptonite disadvantages assume that the rapid power loss you sometimes see was actually built as an attack.  Standard non-points paid for kryptonite will cause him 3D6 damage per phase and makes him lose his next action.  If you want something more than that, you've got to buy it as a Drain or something.
