  1. My brother used to have his lab carry her food on camping trips, but I'd say less than 30lbs. Of course she was only 55-60lbs.
  2. The shredder was designed as the ultimate anti-personnel weapon bar a phaser. OK, it was abusive in concept and when I pointed it out to friends they asked whether I came up with it myself. NO respect, I tell ya! Actually, I usually play simple concepts. I am not a good power gamer. I did try to get an AVLD does body hand to hand killing attack, but it was not going to work versus organic tissues as it was designed as a robot killer.
  3. So then I just link 8x 1pip penetrating autofire attacks for the same basic effect. It is a shredder, and horribly abusive if everyone in the campaign doesn't have hardened armor.
  4. I have to admit I think the" 1pip penetrating does one body" is flawed, just because it made the shredder I wrote up too nasty. iirc it was 1d6+1 RKA, Autofire, penetrating. reduced end-(0) Reduced pen x2 and linked 1d6+1 RKA autofire, penetrating, reduced end (o) reduced penx 2 for each one you hit by you do 8 body unless they have double hardened defenses??
  5. The armor was similar, but iirc the thing that set people off was the Gun.
  6. Most of the Thieve's world characters would have been VERY easy to make as 75 point characters at first. Later one particular author iirc ramped up the power levels until everyone was a god...
  7. I was always surprised by how low the stats of published characters were in Gurps. They made the system Stat friendly, then expected no-one to notice... Of course, they later published "the munchkin's guide to power gaming."
  8. IMO that is just another campaign decision. A character can be made up at 5th, 10th, or whatever level in D-20 just as easily as a hero campaign can be started with 50, 75, 100, 0r 300 base points. I like Hero Better, but... that does not mean there is not some flexibility in other systems. I guess I fall in the high powered normals range. We used to play what I dubbed "Fantasy Champions" back in the late 80s. In one game I played a 23 dex, 20 str archer, in another I played a "genetically/magically enhanced super soldier" with a 30 str, 33 dex, 25 con, mystic danger sense and regen. I would design the latter in particular differently now, but mostly just lower his dex, raise his 13 body, a few other things. I actually started playing HEro system in a DI game, We later added low level powers. It is amazing what a character with 6 levels with rifle can do.
  9. Well, that is good. I had actually gotten to the point where I was avoiding such topics to save my blood pressure. Most of the stuff in NGD I can blow off. Stuff about the Hero system is harder.
  10. I think reading this thread was the first time I have spent any time on this forum for many months.
  11. I agree. I consider myself a Catholic, but think the Doctriine of Papal Infallibility is incorrect. I don't consider any incarnate living human infallible.
  12. Any gamer could clean up the town of all the OBVIOUS targets in short order. Might level parts of the town, but... I have always wanted the overconfident vampires to run in one 55 year old combat veteran, who is smart enought o know they are around. There are SOOOOO many things he could do to mess them up.
  13. I'm probably about to be horribly flamed, but... Hopefully I won't be banned. Dark CHampions has long been one of my favorite Hero system supplements. It is currently out for random reading when bored. It tends to be in this state. It isn't perfect, but it is very good. I was thrilled when I found out Steve Long was writing 5E. Some of the decisions made for 5E are IMO pretty strange. Some are petty little personal preference issues. That is my problem, house rules can solve most, if not all of them. What really has worried me for some time, though, is that some of the responses from Mr. Long have been, well, questionable. Mr. Long has, imo, sometimes come across as I remember Gary Gygax in my youth. "I wrote the system, and that is all there is to it." THis kind of response tends to elicit a negative response from me. I do know several people who have declined to purchase most of the newer books. This is a shame. The system is still the best I have ever used. I just don't think it is perfect. Dan seems to write good software, but this is not the first time he has been arguably abusive to what is, apparently, a customer. True the customer is not being fully reasonable, but there is no reason this whole thing has gotten so acrimonious. I very recently bought both Star Hero and Fantasy Hero on the same day, so I am certainly not stopping buying DOJ products, but my enthusiasm has rather waned in the last year. So much so, in fact, that I have considered bowing to the wishes of some of my friends and using d-20 instead. I still hope to convince them to try the FAR superior system, but I am not as rabid about it as I once was.
  14. I agree COMPLETELY! Unfortunately I have been unable to find my original rules for years. Probably still in boxes from when I moved 10 years ago.
  15. IIRC The original design is claimed to be built for a submarine to fire a retaliatory shot at a sub that shot at it, the nuclear warhead will go off and make it very difficult for the opposing sub to actually hit them with a torpedo. This was a non-guided weapon, moving at about 200 mph. I would guess it was actually designed for trying to kill aircraft carriers. There may be a newer version, it is somewhat possible that a fiber optic guidance system, with the targetting being done by the launching submarine could give a more effective non-nuclear weapon. US is playing with the technology, afaik, but the russians have had it for years. I doubt it is really very practical, but I could be wrong. The US fielded the Davy Crockett, so we have done some silly things too.
  16. none of my characters would consider themselves the best for the job. Several would be planning for the "inevitable" assault on the ship...
  17. Yeah, but the rest of his science actually made some kind of sense! AM2 was extradimensional, etc. I would have just made a rifle with 2 barrels, one fires a larger, more aerodynamic am2 projectile for longer range, and the other fires a micro-missile...
  18. Well, Stalker was involved with a "super villainess" though she was primarily an accomplice rather than an actor in her father's schemes.
  19. There are SOME valid arguments for momentum having a role in damage in addition to energy. Like anything, it can be taken to foolish extremes. A bowling ball at 10fps would do damage, but... There are penetration factors based on length and stiffness of projectiles also. I can't easily follow the math on them though. and cutting is much more efficient than pushing a blunt projectile through tissue.
  20. IIRC, the extremeyly light and fast "bbs" were made of "AM2" surounded by "Imperium" on impact the shell cracked, and they went off like a fair sized explosive. I can't recall what the actual power level was, just that a hit was pretty much a kill. IIRC, with enough shots, heavy armor could conceivably be chewed through. Neat, but.... I was really bothered by the sniper rifle explanation though. "English" works pretty well on a pool table, but just because a projectile is spinning in a preset manner by a computer doesn't mean it should be able to turn right angles in atmosphere. Now a curve to hit the same area, but that is much less useful due to obstructions.
  21. Re: go for it I'm not sure I will allow any initial play of the races at all. I am thinking of modifying Sliders and Stargate, and having these Elves be like the Cro-Mags on Sliders.
  22. My old ref pulled ideas out of "the blood..." but never actually ran it, iirc. I was always intrigued by it, but he would not let me read it.
  23. Darn, too many Responsible vigilantes. Isn't it more fun to just point and laugh? :)
  24. further actions Posession of a gun is legal where I live. I might contact him, just as others have said to assess things.. main character, Stalker... is actually an FBI agent. So I guess he would (while laughing his ass off) run down the wall, check the health status of the would be mugger, then toss him over his shoulder and run off after the "victim." A laughing few questions should give him some idea of the fellows attitudes. If necessary, Stalker is one of the top martial artists in his game world. Probably explain that "I want no trouble in Seattle, so if we can reach an understanding... oh, and I guess I'd better run a trace on the gun." If it helps, he might even pay for the gun. Or, technically, for the entertainment. Stalker wasn't quite as stable as he should be, but that is part of why he was on detached duty with the Sentinels.
