  1. Re: CHAMPIONS UNIVERSE II - What Do You Want To See? The Imperial Guard, Captain Marvel I and the Super-Skrull would certainly hope so. Love to see some super-members of alien races who have made Earth their home for some or all of their adventuring life.
  2. Re: [interest in an online game?] Avengers: Generation 3 I finished writing up Emissary. Yes, nine months later. No interest in playing right now, honestly- I can't keep up with the high caliber of RP here. But I might post him for you, etc and so forth, for use or whatever.
  3. Re: Susano's [possible] Character Thread Love to see them, .hdc or no. I can't access much of the content of your site until I figure out how to change the parental controls on my MacAfee... darn kids.
  4. Re: Random powers? Sounds like you've sat accross the table from a few 13 year olds. I'll be damned if that's my legacy to the HERO System.
  5. Re: INT question How could being a MENSA member possibly be considered a Perk worth buying? If you compare it to the other one-point Perks, it's pretty silly. Now, having a membership to the Horseman's Club, there's aPerk I could totally buy.
  6. Re: HA versus MA I am pleased that my question wasn't as stupid as I thought it was! Also, Ghost-Angel and Hyper-Man answered another question I had, but hadn't yet asked. Thanks to all.
  7. It's been my experience in games I've played in, possibly because we're misread the rules, is that one Damage Class bought in conjunction with Martial Arts will simultaneously add to each Martial maneuver (whether damage or extra Strength). In the past couple of days, it's dawned on me that this might be tremendously undercosted, depending upon how many maneuvers and how many Damage Classes purchased. Does +1 DC apply to one maneuver, or all of them at once?
  8. Aside from the obvious flavor issue, is there any great advantage to buying Martial Strike and its variants over HA? I like buying Martial Arts for my martial artists, but it doesn't seem to have a ton to offer on the basic maneuvers over a simple HA.
  9. Re: Why should I buy Champions? After a long hiatus from posting on these boards, finally an irresistable reason to post again. Thanks. Even if you never, ever sit down with anyone else to play, the granularity of the system allows you to build the abilities of exactly the character you have bumping around in the back of your head. This is useful, since then you can make room for the next character. As a father of two little ones who works second shift, my prospects of sitting down for three or four hours a week to play are minimal- not to mention travel time, or actually writing an adventure. But there's always something superhero-related I want to get down on paper. FREd is the perfect resource for this. I've gotten hundreds of hours of enjoyment out of HERO without any gaming group at all to play it with.
  10. Re: Project 1000: Build a Legend/Megahero See, I'd built that as a MOP. It'd be more expansive and more expensive, but it would also be more specific.
  11. Re: Idea: Foxbat's Justice Association Ever read Thunderbolts? Why not? Foxbat has the raw power to make it as a (n incompetant) hero, and the money to bankroll a high-powered professional superhero team. Of course, after a couple months, the big receal takes place, the heroes take him down and... then what?
  12. Re: Golden Age speedster advice needed Mongoose, Spitfire and the Blitz (in reference to the German's battle tactic of the same name) are obvious choices here. Something like Captain America's origin, or being the unwilling subject of German scientists' testing makes sense as an origin since you already have the mystical angle covered. As far as GA speedster tricks go, I can't think of any right now. Certainly taking away guns, wrapping up soldiers with handy bits of rope and extra HA from super-speedy fists would apply. Honestly though, if it's a female in the GA, she probably shouldn't be a combat monster. By the way, I love the magical gauntlet idea. Very genre.

    Duos

Re: Duos Don't forget the concept of "World's Finest", two shining examples of different archetypes brough together to combat threats they cuoldn't face alone.
  14. Re: Your character may be too average if... ...I got nothin. I really dislike average characters.
  15. Re: Top Down Bottom Up How interesting, that's exactly how I like my womens.
  16. Re: WWYCD? The Trap Oh, wait, my bad, this is easier than that- drop an endangered animal into the thing, and the government will seize the land, no questions asked.
  17. Re: WWYCD? The Trap Black Pharos could probably rig up something to permenently disarm the trap. It's then academic for him and his teammates to take this guy in- killing people is essentially failing to save them. And five self-defense killings by the exact same means is more than a coincidence- it's serial murder. If by chance Pharos can't stop this guy as a superhero, he'll use his company's vast wealth to persuade the government to take the land under Imminent Domain, and build something nicer there- a chemical plant, a school, a casino, whatever. After all, even in the case of a rich guy, Imminent Domain (and subsequent tax dollars) talks.
  18. Re: Got some buildin' exercises for ya... Bah! To you both! In order to woeld those extra powers, IMO they have to have great endurance. I did get the notion to post this idea from the MSH game, but I also think it has great relevance to the way they're prortrayed most of the time in comics.
  19. Re: Got some buildin' exercises for ya... Actually... even "normal" Marvel Mutants have enhanced endurance (roughly translated, higher con, body, stun end PD and ED) than a normal human counterpart. While Cyke would probably be on the low end of this "enhanced endurance" scale, he'd still be comparable with characters like Daredevil, Black Knight, and so forth. Maybe a little better.
  20. Re: Got some buildin' exercises for ya... So, I'm not sure how Cyclops' power is the kind of thing that would fit on a 250-er or a 350-er. It's probably something like EB 12d6, 0END Persistent (+1), Variable Advantages (+1 worth, +2 Advantage), Always On (-1/2). Active Cost: 240; Real Cost 160. AND Visor: Buys off "Always On" Limitation, Restrainable (-1/2) or OIF (-1/2). Active Cost: 80; Real Cost 54. So just his EB would be 160 + 54 = 194 points. This is not to mention all the levels he must have accrued, his many skills, and his characteristics. He seems to me to be at least a 400 pointer if you build him right.
  21. Re: New Avengers I would seriously like to see the practical joke called ALpha Flight to end... or at least, let's get rid of this hideous group that's plagued us since the 80s and get Canada some real superheroes.
  22. Re: Was watching Superman TAS and wondered about Mxyzptlk Because! Superman Is A Dick
  23. Re: Got some buildin' exercises for ya... Rogue is a tough one, since you have so many potential abilities and power levels, depending upon whom she touches. Best guess is a huge Multiform, where you define the 'Form based upon who she touches... No Concious Control, Skin Contact Only, Reversion penalties similar to those in FRED but not quite the same (based upon how long the contact is, rather than how long she stays in the new Form)... The Multiforms would have to vary in power level, so you'd have to put a cap on how many points they could be built on (and it'd have to be high). Something like 125 Forms, 1,250 pionts for the most expensive Form (this allows her to steal from anyone but an Entity-level target, which I think is correct)... NCC (-1), Skin Contact Required (-1/2), Always On (-1/2)... I say Multiform since she steals disads as well as powers, skills, chars, whatever.
  24. Re: Your PC's might be underpowered if... ...if your main power, Clinging, Only Works In Deep Space (-2).
  25. Re: Professional Rockband HERO team? There was a 1960's-era Hanna-Barbera cartoon about a band/superteam called The Impossibles. I don't think they bothered with secret identities, and it was definitely played for comedic value... but nonetheless it was an entertaining show and an interesting concept.
