I used to have a running joke with my coworkers that most movies were love stories. Return of the King? It’s a love story! Die Hard? It’s a love story!  Fast and Furious? It’s a love story! Creepshow? It’s a love story!

It’s depressing how often this actually works.

I don't know how you got that impression. I don't for a moment think Jackson's changes were arbitrary. I already explained what I feel his reasons were, and yes you are right, I disagree with those reasons rather strongly. I also disagree rather strongly that it couldn't have been done any other way, as if Jackson had a choir of angels directing his hand when writing the script, and that what we got was adapted cinematic perfection.

I still enjoy the movies, particularly the extended editions, as I've pointed out repeatedly. That does not, however, make me blind to (what I feel are) numerous unnecessary blunders on Jackson's part. In most respects his achievement is nothing short of astounding, and I give him tremendous props for pulling it off as he did. However, where he changed/compromised/updated the original story under the auspices of "adaptation" I feel he sometimes went too far astray and did not do the original story justice.

Well what I have in mind is less a "campaign book" full of how to run the game and such than an actual campaign: a series of adventures in a setting for a GM to run as a campaign.  So less Horror Hero/Pulp Hero etc and more something not actually published since, I dunno, Champions in 3d

I dunno you see it all the tme in action movies, there's a pause and the villain gives his entire plan away or everyone gets a few lines in, then the shooting starts again.  Just her "I'm a girl" reveal could have been enough to make the Nazgul king step back and pause a while as she talks.

Sorta, but it wasn't the actual events but how they were filmed and presented.  Each was done as a film ending, the way films are wrapped up.  Then there was another.  And another.... etc

I can't prove it scientifically, but I've always been convinced Cap's shield provides exactly +2d6 N. Obviously he will always use it when available, but his Martial Strike with a shield does the same damage as his Offensive Strike without it, and that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

    Indeed.

In the books, Arwen was less involved in the War of the Ring than, say, Galadriel, but she was given more to do in the movies, which is irksome. In fact, if the goal was to have another strong female character in the movies, in addition to Eowyn, I would have just eliminated Arwen completely and instead showed the defense of Lothlorien and Galadriel at her most fierce.

I'd say Beast Boy is effective enough that he's not using standard animals as their defenses won't hold up in Supers games, but it would be easy to say "the standard animal plus these extra defenses (perhaps Combat Luck)" or any other modification you want.

Beast Boy's forms are definitely superpowered. No gorilla is going to jump around like Spider-man, get pounded on repeatedly by a creature that can damage concrete and come back swinging afterwards, or survive a 30 foot fall and get back up fighting (ala Teen Titans cartoon series).

Well I'm not going to argue that all of his choices/changes were great, that I liked them all or that they were even necessary.
I am just saying that the movies were enjoyable and far better than most of the adaptation atrocities we then to get inflicted on us.
But I fully understand that the inserted "romance" was most likely a Follywood mandate.  If not by him, then the money people.  After all we can't have a movie without a love interest somewhere...

This is very true. However, there were a number of changes Jackson made to the story that can't be blamed on meddling executives and/or the people controlling the money. To the extent to which the movie is a less-than-perfect adaptation, much of the blame rests squarely on Jackson's shoulders and his mistaken (IMO) belief that he was improving on Tolkien's story, using justifications like "audiences expect certain movie clichés and I felt obligated to satisfy them".

Cutting out the "extra endings" would not have improved the movie IMO, though perhaps transitioning between them more smoothly might have. Nor would making the movies shorter (I've already voiced my belief that the extended editions are superior to the theatrical versions). In my view, the one thing Jackson could have--and should have--done to make those movies "more perfect" was to not stray from the original story (at least those parts of it he chose to tell).

This was one of Aaron Allston's better bits of advice in Strike Force: vary your adventures.  Mix up types of adventures: a long series with a few short ones, a serious one with some goofy ones, etc.  Some genres have so much flexibility you can really go nuts with varieties of adventures.  Champions, you can literally do anything and Fantasy is extremely broad as well.  A lot of it depends on the players because some will like that more than others, but it can be a nice break.

I wonder if she'd be surprised to learn that most fans are already trying to forget all the DC movies except for the first WW and Aquaman.

I dislike "gliding only" equating to "gliding faster".  CC appears to remove the GM discretion present in 6e, which I support.  I'd prefer that the system remove the doubled Gide speed (likely meaning  a larger limitation for "only to glide") and provide a limitation for "cannot glide" (probably -1/4).

As the title says, do you have silly adventures occasionally for the players? In the campaign I'm in, definitely yes. I'll tell you some of them:

    - If you've seen the silly movie 'Inframan', the PC's had to fight various monster baddies eventually ending up fighting Princess Dragon Mom.  Yeah, that name is horrible.
    - I doubt you've ever seen the very old cartoon series 'Clutch Cargo' where just the lips moved, I had Foxbat make a cartoon series with himself in that style. The heroes (and players) joked about that for a couple of weeks.
    - If you've ever seen the old tacky series 'The Banana Splits', Foxbat had 4 supersuits make to look like the four, um, characters... and he was the fifth! "The Foxbat Splits!"
    - The old Thundercats cartoon series was used: the heroes went to a different dimension and fought Mumm-Ra, defeating him with finality.
    - He-Man's Skeletor has shown up a couple times; got trashed both times. The last time, I suddenly ended up having in midgame to beef up his PD, ED & Stun but it didn't make him last much longer; the heroes were just on a roll.

Those are just a few. I often use Foxbat for fun episodes because now & then, the players need something like it.

My favorite kind of "silly" adventure (which will come as no surprise to anyone who's heard of my Challenge of the Superfriends games or read Digital Hero #11) is the very earnest, cartoonishly-flavored game.  The only things about the adventures themselves that seem very silly are the villains' goals (which are typically ridiculously grandiose, like stealing the moon or something).  The characters in-world take it all quite seriously.

And that's the gag.  The characters are very earnest and sincere, but the players are laughing at the absurdity of it all. Playing it straight is much more fun, in my experience, than actually trying to be silly.

Back in the day I ran the 3E/BBB equivalent, 'cosmic' level, for a number of years.   Also the other end of the spectrum, 'street' level.   The group was mixed, from serious Hero mavins to relatively casual players.  Both extremes worked well.

One thing I noticed was that even with lots of XP, low-power heroes wouldn't cross over to become like their higher-power equivalents.

I heard plenty of complaints and jokes at the time that Return of the King was too long, in addition to the last few hours of it being devoted to all the fake-out endings.

(I'd probably have forgiven all that if Jackson also taken the extra 15 seconds or so needed to replace "I am no man" with “But no living man am I! You look upon a woman. Éowyn I am, Éomund’s daughter. You stand between me and my lord and kin. Begone, if you be not deathless! For living or dark undead, I will smite you, if you touch him.”)

Yeah just treat it as a plot effect, create a chart of potential powers and roll on it if you want.

It is worth noting here in a sort of related way that I came up with a "random effect" modifier of -½ on multipowers or power pools where you cannot control what comes up, rolled randomly among the choices.  Might be in the rules somewhere, though, I don't recall seeing it anywhere officially.

To everyone comparing the run time of the Snyder cut Justice League to that of Return of the King, I have to point out that the two movies aren't comparable. ROTK was the third and final chapter in a continuous story which a great many fans were already heavily invested in. JL was a stand-alone movie about which there was already much doubt due to the mixed reception of Man of Steel and the heavy criticism of Batman vs Superman. A studio would have every reason to fear that a three-plus-hour run time for JL would dissuade many fans from seeing it.

How much income has Hero Games left on the table by not having previews or even page counts listed in the store? As an ecommerce professional, I would say that the conversion rate of more casual browsers (those not knowing exactly what they want, and not part of the hardcore community) is probably reduced by 90% due to these factors. It's difficult to understand, frankly.
