Yeah but I wasn't being clear.  FH 1st edition had different names for the base powers.  Force Field was called Ward, for example.  Life Support was called Adapt, Flash was called Dazzle. They had magical sounding names instead of Superhero sounding names.  It was a great feeling idea, but... it leads to needless confusion and duplication, and doesn't really enhance anything except my sense of satisfaction.

Giving a name to someone's built power is different than renaming the base powers that people build with.

Honestly that is a real concern for me with my Jolrhos stuff.  I want to present a full campaign, without the rules on the assumption that everyone has FHC to start with.  But its gonna be like 6 big books total to get everything.  I mean you get all that and you're set with a full fantasy world and campaign with everything you need to build anything, plus a half dozen adventures in print but... that's a lot of money to expect people to invest in, too.  I try to keep the cost down, but there's a limit to how low I can price stuff, especially the print.

Once I get it all out, maybe I'll do a Jolrhos Lite thing, one book with the very basics stripped way down, and the rules.   But Hero changed how they allow rules reprints, I don't think you can do them solo, it has to be an official Hero product.  Like Western Hero, where its one book for everything

Yeah first edition FH was a self-contained campaign and game.  It was distinct from D&D, feeling more like DragonQuest from SPI, where there is magic, but its more a low fantasy Medieval setting. I liked the feel of it, and was strongly pulled in that direction when thinking about publishing a game but renaming basic powers feels unnecessarily complicated no matter how good a Fantasy sense it gives.

I think a useful way to view this is to look at it from the reverse.

Let's recast Wonder Woman as a guy!  Wonder Dude!  Its fresh and exciting!  That Steel guy is too black, we need to change things up and make him a white person!

See how that seems and works?  Its cheap, lazy, and stupid.  Its even insulting.

Its also comparing apples to lamp posts.  I was referring to the sales of individual titles, not overall sales for the entire company including digital and resales of old trades, etc.

Every industry analysis done indicates comics books are in dread state right now but do go on talking about how rosy things are for them.

I think that Marvel does best when they take advantage of good writing and ideas rather than rewriting existing characters with a niche category.  It has to do with what your goal and ideas are: are we doing this because we think it will attract new readers by pandering, or because we have great ideas and great stories to tell?

Thor's sales had been down for a while because it was bad writing and often bad art for years.  A fresh character always attracts lots of readers, for a while, but without the great writing and ideas they always fade away.  Overall Marvel's sales on all their titles, even their best-selling ones, are so low they'd have been straight up canceled in the 90s.

I appreciate the builds behind the scenes, but do people really care or need them?  When my Player's Guide comes out I'll bundle the heromaker files together, including the talent builds but I wonder how much people even care.

Yeah its going to be based on how you built it.  You can't just say "He has indirect so he can still hit" it has to be "he works a hand free" or "is so flexible he can kick in any direction;" something like that.  As long as you define it well and it makes sense to me, I would allow it; its a good idea.

Yeah we did the same thing, I have a back of the character sheet type sheet with slots for SPD (indicate stun, END use, etc) and BOD/STUN areas to keep track, as well as gear, etc.

Yeah I think there's a happy medium between the 9 skills in 2nd edition and 475 variations of Survival available now.  Its nice to have the option if you're playing Science Hero, but doesn't need to be assumed as part of the main ruleset.

When we played face-to-face for my new players I would use Word/Excel to make a bunch of square boxes to represent END, Stun & Body.  Then I would give the players that sheet + a plastic protector sheet.  They could use an erasable marker on the sheet to track everything.

Since we are playing VTT these days I just trust them to keep track of those things.

Danger International needs a reboot, and yeah Super Agents, with at least rules for having very low end Supers as an option (like a special police force in Big City where each character has only one power or very tight suite of powers).

And I honeslty thought the screen in Luke's ship was more about the sound / vacuum issue thatln translation.

    But honestly-

Ah; skip it.  Lets just say if,you are looking for logic or consistency, Star Wars is decidely, not the place to start.

The reason R2 couldn't speak English like every other droid was because it was cute, and that's what Lucas wanted.  There's no deeper meaning or logic to it.  I mean you can come up with something if you try hard enough but it will be retrofitting something to make it work rather than the real reason.  And it worked, it made the little thing charming and enjoyable even when it was mean to C3P0.

I'd use Presence vs. Ego for this.  Presence is intimidating the other party; Ego is keeping your cool and not drawing first.

I figure that's what the mage's guild is for, or its equivalent; to police and control use of magic and people who can use magic in their areas.

I've never understood the issue.  When I GM, if the player is new to the system, I or another player will help them.  But overall l let my players track their own.

I'll admit I preferred the original 1 END for 5 over the current 1 END for 10.  But tracking END isn't a difficult concept and it was one of the key factors that brought me to Hero in the first place.

For those among my friends and followers who know Scott Bennie - or who know his work - I have the difficult news that he has been hospitalized and undergone surgery. I do not know what his current condition is, but according to his sister, he is undergoing significant rehab. He has no access to a computer or the Internet and is very much cut off. As I understand it, you can send him an email address to the following address, using the following information to ensure a message is hand-delivered to him by the Volunteer Resource team. This will be the only way he knows friends and fans are thinking of him. youvegotmail.ARH@fraserhealth.ca Robert Scott Bennie Unit: Baker 3 Room 109

The easiest way to figure out the damage from a normal penetrating attack is to count the body rolled.  That is the minimum amount of stun the target takes no matter how high his defenses are.  If the regular damage is higher than the minimum the target takes the regular damage.

For a killing attack it is slightly different.  In that case you count the amount of body you would have done (before defense) if the attack was a normal attack.  That is the minimum amount of body the target takes.  Again if the regular damage is higher than the minimum damage the target takes the regular damage.  The stun multiplier is handled as normal, but the target like normal you take at least 1 stun per body taken.

So as Grailknight said you take 7 stun 0 body.  But you take a minimum of 5 stun no matter how high your defenses are.  If the attack had been a killing attack and the defense were resistant you would have taken 7 body.  If you had 15 points or higher of resistant def you would take 5 body.

Hello @asab33! What is sounds like is that what you need is flight: gliding limitation. Offhand I think what you want for “requires visible light” is just special effects. However if you can’t use it in Darkness/night then it’s worth a limitation value.

Christopher R Taylor reacted to Chris Goodwin in Heroic Martial Arts, weapons, and Damage Classes in 6E
In a heroic campaign where no points are paid for weapons (and where they have the STR Minimum and Real Weapon Limitations by default), the "base damage" for the weapon is its listed damage value (6e2 p. 99 under Toolkitting); its maximum damage is limited to double its base damage no matter how many methods are used to add damage (6e2 p. 199 under STR Minimum and 6e2 p. 201 under Real Weapon).

Since you mention that it's a Heroic campaign, I'm starting with the assumption that the weapons in question are taken from a list (either in one of the books or provided by the GM), that the characters don't pay points for them, and that they include the STR Minimum and Real Weapon Limitations.  The base damage would therefore be that of the weapon (2d6 in our case), and damage added by all other sources (including STR, Martial Arts Damage Classes, maneuvers, Skill Levels, Weapon Master) count toward its doubled maximum (which would be 4d6).  The GM is given the option to allow more than double, at the risk of damaging the weapon; both STR Minimum and Real Weapon specify that the weapon would take the full amount of damage the weapon does to the target, and so would probably break.

(A fist does not count as a Real Weapon for purposes of that Limitation, and is typically not considered to fall under the "double base damage" rule in any case; a fist's "base damage" is equal to the character's STR, along with any purchased Martial Arts DCs or Hand-to-hand Attack.)

I hope this answers your question; if not, feel free to follow up with another Rules Question.
