  1. Re: Ever need blueprints for the USS Missouri? It was the New Jersey. Navy rumor was that the reason the ship was deactivated again was they made the Air Force look bad.

The world of 1984 was a dystopia; Beta Colony is a flawed society, but I would rather live there than in Jackson's Whole, Cetaganda, or Barrayar prior to Vorkosigan's regency. (And maybe even after.) Not to mention I would MUCH rather live there than in the Soviet Union, Red China, Cuba, Saudi Arabia, and many more. Not being a utopia does not equal being a dystopia.
  3. Re: Miles Vorkosigan RPG Actually it was "I fear you might succeed." But obviously that is a quible. I agree with you completely.
  4. Re: Ever need blueprints for the USS Missouri? USS Wisconsin is BB-64, Iowa is BB-61. They are the same class. Although when they were reactivated in the 80's (and the New Jersey was also reactivated temporarily in the late 60's) some minor changes probably did creep in.
  5. Re: PS-238 Characters It is. But I have just read issue 38 (I know issue 39 is out, but I missed 38 and just got a copy) and it looks like Tyler may have a superpower after all. Unfortunately, I cannot think of a good way to make it in hero system. It has been suggested that the reason nobody can tell that Tyler is Moon Shadow (except for the few adults who know he is apprenticing with Revenant, and Cecil) is that his power is to prevent people from noticing. How would we model that?
  6. I was trying to create a gas grenade, and used 4d6 NND(+1) defense is gas mask or self contained breathing, Explosion(+1/2) for 5 points active cost; then adding several continuing charges to simulate that it takes a while to disperse. Another player has said that I need to also add the Continuous advantage to use continuing charges, since the basic power is instant. Is this correct?
  7. Re: Umolau Smit (1000 posts!) How did you cost this out?
  8. Re: Star HERO with... not magic, really, but... Or the robots could hire merc pilots.
  9. Re: Supervillains and Philosophy Season 2, episode 21, "Comes the Inquisitor".
  10. Re: Natural Disasters? I wouldn't. The power of a tsunami is so great that I would not try and "spec" it with the rules, anymore than I would try to figure how many dice for a 20 MT thermonuclear weapon. I'ld wing it.
  11. Re: 5e Body of Obsidian Good one.
  12. Re: Miles Vorkosigan RPG No, but he would be a GR8 pulp character.
  13. Re: 5th edition to 6th edition problem (Martial Arts) Interesting, but isn't that more expensive? If you buy 5 maneuvers, your multi-power is now 30+5(3)=45 points. You can buy almost all the maneuvers for that.

    6E Mess

Re: 6E Mess I agree with your last point about radar. In fact I think hearing cannot also. So for 6th, Sight(8)+Mental(2)+Touch(2)+Smell/Taste(2)=14 points. So add Persistent and Only costs endurance to activate (total +1/2) and we get: 21 points.
  15. Re: Supervillains and Philosophy Actually, it was Babylon 5.

    6E Mess

Re: 6E Mess Where do you get that it costs 68 points? By my calculations the base (for All sense groups) is 25 points in 5ER, and only 19 points in 6th. So for 31 points (5ER) or 24 points (6th) you can buy it with "only costs end to activate", even without applying any limitations/disadvantages.
  17. Re: What if super-powered humans did exist? Why is travel beyond Luna not possible? With gravity control to allow getting stuff up to Geo-sycn orbit, we could do trips to Mars, the asteroids. etc. with current technology.
  18. Re: 5th edition to 6th edition problem (Martial Arts) Thank you.
  19. Re: Thoughts on Damage Negation (6e) Alternately, if math doesn't frighten you, you can use fractions! If the attack is 12 dice and the negation is 6 dice, cut the attack effect in half. For 12 attack and 5 negation, you use 58% of the damage. (Calculators help.)
  20. Re: Proposal for new mental power advantages Hmmmm, you know, Megaplayboy may have a point here. I can see the breakout rolls for mind control, but I'm not sure I buy the rational for illusions. The breakout roll is your mind fighting the effect; for a plausible illusion (such as "the door is one meter to the left" for the door down the hall that you just entered) your mind has no reason to fight this.
  21. Re: Interdimensional stories All the ones he went to were alternates. We found that out in the last story.
  22. Re: The Lovestruck A.I. Why do you say it was vile? If he had wiped the woman's personality and memory to let him install the AI's, then I agree it was vile. But if it was done by someone/something else, and there was no way of restoring the original personality, then I would not say it was vile. Ethically questionable perhaps.
