I agree that knocking 1 SPD and a few point off other stats overall would be a good direction for published material.  Certainly the 6th edition enemies books are almost uniformly too powerful for my campaigns.

I like having Figured Characteristics for Superheroes. For Heroic Level though No figured are better.

I'm glad to say Champions pulled me away from DnD and never looked back. Disadvantages/Complications done creatively add so much fun to a character.

As a GM you can spend months creating your campaign, seeding it with clues, novel encounters, villages, towns, cities, colorful and unique terrain and hordes of NPC's and the one area you have not yet completed that can only be accessed by going up a mountain pass and then traverse a narrow ledge above a bottomless gorge.  A ledge no sane person would essay, and that is where they will choose to go. "SHEESH"

Corollary to that: The GM should beware of grinning players.

Regardless of how good the GM's plot, there are always more players than GM to out-think the plot.

Holds up fine. Still using it; doesn't seem to matter which edition is used.  If regular points are gathered from heroes, instead of Mastermind option, you can get an okay base. Using the Mastermind option, you can get more of an advanced Avengers type base. Quite frankly, I will stick to the Mastermind option.

I use it for all the superhero groups in the campaign. No, I never found it gamebreaking, nor have the players.

The "Champions Minus" article, a humorous nod to "Champions Plus". Champions Minus is a several page parody of their powers, pretty funny! I'll list one of them.

Overall Levels: A hero with an Overall Level skill level gets a +1 on everything he does, as long as he wears overalls when doing it. This is very popular in rural communities.

I'm curious if anybody has any particular favorite articles from the Adventurer's Club series of magazines. Anything still especially relevant or insightful to gaming today? Anything especially useful that somehow didn't find its way replicated in later editions of the core rules or official supplements?

When I got into HERO in the early 90s I knew that AC was a thing, but I was a poor kid without the means to collect them. I'm curious about any gems I may have missed out on.

NinjaB, I used villains of all different versions. I still use Wee Willie as originally created (which includes using the powers as intended in Champions 1st/2nd edition). I've used villains from Edition 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. Don't use 6th edition. I adapt easily from edition to edition and the players are none the wiser. Yes, sometimes I do update a villain to a newer edition but overall, just use them as is.

This isn't how any other power with AOE works, though.  If you have a 10d6 Blast with AOE, every target in the area takes 10d6.

I ran into this situation once. I merely had the hero make a block roll to send it back and then to make an to-hit roll against the villain. It was a one-time event and heroic; I'm not going to penalize the player for trying something cool and heroic. If the character is going to be able to do this on a regular basic, then I'd go with Reflection.

@Tech, I just thought of this idea. Look at other character’s powers and see if any tickle your fancy. Then ask “can I use sonic sfx” to the extent that your feel comfortable with. For example, Tunneling has been bought for Bricks to punch a hole in the wall or rip the door off its hinges. I really can see this as a sonic power too. But say stretching, even with Doesn’t pass through real space, maybe not so much.

More like Songbird. I know there's no mandatory effect, etc etc with Hero Games system; I'm just so uncreative with sonic powers.

If you ignore the rule that split up transforms into 3 types then 99% of the confusion and complication goes away, which is how I run it.
