  1. Re: WWYCD: Valdorian Age Adventus: He still would be very strong. And very nervous about being flesh again. He is made of adamantium, like Colossus from the x-men. His family got the power to turn metal from the Greek Gods. In him it became a permanent condition. He would become a knight because he has been in fantasy movies so he knows basically how to use a sword. Pyhrus: He would keep trying to open a portal to the Elemental Plane of Fire. That is his superpower. There his powers would work normally. Once there he would just open a portal to his home time. Time doesn't exist normally on the plane of fire.
  2. Professor Meurte just threatened to destroy a major American city if not paid $10 billion. Before the city can come up with the money, The Champions fly into the City to stop the Professor. They blow it and the city is completely destroyed. The US government in Retaliation outlaws all superbeings, Giving them thirty days to leave the country forever or be arrested. They are declared persona non grata in the USA. You now have no rights in America. You will be given $50,000 and whatever valuables of your that you can carry. Then you must leave. What would you do?
  3. Re: Real world vs. Game world I have read a book on something like this taken to the extreme. Those who Walk in Darkness by John Ridley. In this book a Supervillian takes San Francisco hostage. Before the citizen, normals, can pay the ransom a Superhero flies in and tries to stop the Evil villian. Only he doesn't. The city is completely destroyed. The US Government, in shock, passes an Executive Order, declaring all Superbeing persona non grata. They have 30 days to leave the country or be 'arrested'! This lead to the formation of MTac, a specially trained division of the police who hunt down and try to arrest metanormals. The story focuses on one member of the Los Angeles Mtac division, Soledad O'Roark. She is a black woman who uses an unauthorized electronic pistol to take down a pyrokinetic with White Phosphorous rounds. The story is bout what happens to her as a result. The parts where they discuss how to take down various types of metanormals is priceless. The most feared type is the Telepath. If you run into one of these you will end up blowing your brains out.
  4. Re: Does anyone here play Cyberpunk HERO? I would like to recommend several books you should read: The first two are told from the Corporate perspective rather than the punk perspective. Jennifer Government by Max Barry. It is a great way to do the first corporate war. Your last name is based on the company you work for. hence the name. Market Forces by Richard K Morgan. You can challenge somebody for their position with an unarmed but armored auto-duel. It is a great story about the fall of a good man. The next two are from the runner perspective. Hammerjack by Marc D. Giller. Net jockeys in this book are called Hammerjack. This book is about one of the best, 'retired'. And the biological supercomputer he uncovers. Nylon Angel by Marianne de Pierres. This book is about a female runner in way over her head. It gives a great description of life inside a Combat Zone. She is lightly cybered. Her leather vest is very cool. Lots of conversions of people. a very good read. The final one isn't exactly cyberpunk. It is fantasy. Broken Crescent by S. Andrew Swann. This is fantasy yes. It is about a computer hacker who gets pulled into a fantasy world. Magic is done by the nonhuman god's language. which is basically a computer language. You could run a cyberpunkish fantasy world with this book alone.
  5. Re: Area effect weirdness I think they should all use the same mechanic: +1/4 advantage to increase area effect. This would also cut down on problems Newbies to hero have trying to grok the system. They would only have to remember one mechanic to increase area effect. The 'powers that be' did bring the adjustment powers to a more uniform structure. Make the powers that affect senses just pay the same points as Flash to affect that sense. But keep the area effect mechanic uniform. By increasing the area you make the power more useful, therefore it should cost more. And Hero is a very uniform game. I have been playing it since 1984. I love this system. I like what they did with fixing the multiform/duplication/followers/dnpc/summon rules and can't wait for the official expanded clarification of these. I also like the mechanic for making characters of a different size and weight. ps thanks Zornwill. I appreciate the support.
  6. Re: WWYCD: Foxbat The Mighty! Starmite: FOxbat how many times have I told you to leave my spare supersuit alone? Now put the bank down. Before I just shut it off on you. I said now...(spots other superbeings arriving) Hey can I have your Autograph? Pleaase? pleeeeeeeeaaaassssseee?(completely ignoring Foxbat. In fact he has completely forgotten about FB).
  7. Re: Force Field powers help? Enhanced flight-You form an aerodynamic shell around you causing you to have a lower drag coefficient allowing you to fly faster. and be more maneuverable because you could change the shape of the wings.
  8. I was looking at my 5er and i noticed something a little weird. Under Change environment it costs 5 points to increase the radius by 1 inch Under Darkness it costs either 5 points for non-targeting senses or 10 points for a targeting sense. Under Images to increase the radius you use a +1/4 advantage. And then there is the Area Effect advantage. I would like to see a little more uniformity here.

    Amussing F/X

Re: Amussing F/X I made a character once named PARAGON. He was the embodiment of the ideal romantic male. His sfx were a spotlight, theme music, the Personal wind. He had Filthy Rich with invisible power effects, full. He always had the right amount of money for what ever he needed., however you could not find any source for the funds. He could produce a white rose from within his coat, freshly picked with dew still on the petals. Swinging with invisible power effects; i.e. you could follow the rope up but something would distract you for a split second and you would lose the rope.
  10. Re: Pulp Hero, after looking it over My friend Thad picked this up for me at Gen Con. I have looked it over. Having read the timeline, I want to run a conspiracy game. All those mysterious deaths. However I do have one minor quibble. Periods. They should have been used in the timeline to avoid the following: Plague in India kills 1000 Dance marathoners fad catches on in United States.
  11. My wife got me the following book everything you wanted to know about what training batman has and How you, yes YOU, can learn how to be Batman. The people who wrote the book talked to experts in each field necessary. from martial arts to the batcae to what books you should have in your library. SHE IS SO COOOOOOLLLLL:king:
  12. Re: YOUR Favourite/Funniest/Silliest Presence Attack Moment? High powered campaign. Character had been around for years. I had a player with a character in my campaign named Vi-man, an insectoid martial artist, with a 70 point VPP. This VPP only changed powers when exposed to radiation(random powers(gm fiat)) and when under extreme stress (powers to oppose said stress). Dr. D realizes that this being needs to be removed from the equation if He wishes to Take Over The WORLD. So he has Menton turn him into his puppet. The character had disads:hates mentalists, Hates being mind controlled Vuln towards mental attacks. Now extreme stress: combat did not qualify as extreme stress. Being Mind controlled for 2 weeks does. Dr. D is 'allying' himself with prof Meurte in taking over the world. Cut to Dr D's speech in the United Nations, the heroes are fighting his forces and losing. Viman is tough. Finally the stress of being Mind Controlled get to be extreme. His Vpp changes making him immune to Menton's powers. Viman does a move thru on menton. Menton realizing that none of his known powers now work on Viman he goes desolid. Viman goes thru Menton and bounces off of Dr.D. Dr. D looks down on the worthless piece of scum insect that dared to attack HIM! And he Crushes him like the bug he is.(does exactly the body the Character had in defence and didn't even stun viman. Of course Dr.D didn't look down to 'see' if his opponent was dead. Arrogance you know. of course he is dead. I am Dr. Destroyer. If I crushed him of course he is dead. Character looked up, set, brace, pop the claw, Martial Punch to the Groin. like 9d6 HKA APx2. Dr.D has 1 body left. DrD goes up and falls to the Ground dying. VimanStands up, faces the camera. "New York is mine. Commit a crime here I will kill you Myself." Rolled his 70d6 pre attack. Crime rate skyrocketed in New york as every criminal TURNED themselve in with incriminating evidence and confessions. People in other countries were turning themselves in for crimes they just tought about committing..
  13. Re: New Champions/Superhero Art and here is the artist's site: http://www.doomedculturegraphics.com/
  14. Steve, On page 405 of 5er there is an example given under Normal Damage Weapons in Superheroic Campaigns. bottom right hand corner of page. This example is supposed to illustrate how weapons just add to the str damage, even if it is more than the double of the wepon damage. It fails. The str is 20 (4d6 hth) and the weapon is 6d6 for a total of 10d6. This fails to illustrate the point you are trying to make here because the total damage is less than twice the weapon damage. The example would make more sense if the 2 dice sets were switched: i.e. a 30 str (6d6 hth) and 4d6 weapon for a total of 10d6. You should sentence whoever's job it was to catch this to have to spend time with Foxbat and listen to him explain his Master Plan. for hours on end.
  15. Re: Magic system question I would like to address the stealing issue. What you could do is have the spell get weaker each time it is stolen. and that you get that person in your head, slowly driving you insane. this could be represented by psych disad side effects on the 'spell' And the more powers you steal, the weaker ALL of your powers become. causing the theft of powers to be a game of diminishing returns.
  16. Re: Favorite Superhero Lines Guy Gardner (Green Lantern) was being his usual annoying self, saying Batman wasn't that scary. Then he backs into Batman, who has walked up behind him. Batman looked Guy straight in the eyes and said: "SIT DOWN" Guy ended up bruising his rear end when it hit the seat. At this point one of the Leaguers that was there said. "That is why he is the Batman" __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ This reminds of the time Dick Grayson was posing as Batman. He is down in the Batcave with the new Robin. When the original Batman walks in and tells Robin they have work to do and walks past them. Robin turns to Dick and says "How does he do that?" Dick responds "I don't know. I have known him for 20 years and I still don't know how he does that. It still gives me the willies." I am partiallly paraphrasing here, of course.
  17. Re: Best way to Build Cap's Shield?
  18. Re: Impervious to Magic This is exactly how you would do this, with 1 glaring error that I have highlighted. This should read affected by everything BUT magic. only to protect against magical effects.(-1):
  19. Re: Pulp Hero Resources I came across this on RPG libaryt. http://www.seedwiki.com/page.cfm?wikiid=2331&doc=Pulp%20Project1557
  20. Re: What do you do onboard a starship? A problem that has only partially addressed is illness. It was said that illness would run it's course fairly early in the trip because everybody would be immune to the diseases. Because of this, their immune systems would atrophy. The doctors would have to keep releasing new viruses into the environment to keep peoples immune systems strong. Otherwise you would have a population of sickly asthmatics.
  21. I am asking for help in making a Psychic warrior for my campaign. They are people who have psychic powers who have been trained to fight Cyber-aug. These are genetically designed, cybernetically augmented killers with computer designed personalities. The scariest part is that they look like normal people. The cyber-augs that is. They travel in pods of 13. They go to a planet, infiltrate the infrastructure, and rip it apart right before the Empire shows up to conquer the planet. The Psychic Warriors are created to combat them. What skills and powers would you give the psychic warriors?
  22. Re: Random powers (falling, barriers) This is going to change the way movement specialist and martial artists are built from now own. A variation of this and you have ultimate dodge or the ultimate damage avoidance power. This should never been thought of!!! Now that it has, it belongs in the ultimate speedster.
  23. Re: Random powers (falling, barriers) This can be used to model the Marvel Universe Juggernaut's ability to NOT be knocked back, ever. It does it perfectly.
  24. Re: Okay, how do you want them to handle the OTHER Organizations? I am surprised. No one mentioned M.E.T.E. I would like to see this organization redone for 5ER.
  25. I found this site and thought Herodom might find it useful. starship schematics
