  1. Re: Intro Solo scenario for new player The very first bit of Champions I ever played was the simple "you see a bank robbery in progress" situation Just remember that all you need to do is tell the player to tell you what they want to do and you will take on the job of converting that into Champions actions. Which is a good rule of thumb for any session, let alone your first
  2. Re: Does anyone really roll 30D6? I seem to remember in one particular game (that was intended to be combat oriented) once managing to get up to 36D6 through the fast fly-boy sky-diving my brick character into the neck of a dinosaur rampaging through London town. Of course I rolled the dice. I one go I seem to recall
  3. Re: How Much Experience? You are gaming a lot so I am instantly jealous It also means you could very quickly get some large numbers so I would be inclined to restrict it as much as you can, or at least restict how its spent. If you make the players spend their xp in small batches then it tends to create characters that "feel" like they have learnt something rather than just had another accident
  4. Re: Getting to two This thread made me laugh for some reason. It also made me think of the far more serious problem of "Getting to Four" with Duplication! Going from Hero System 4 to Hero System 5 really messed up my duplication character sQuad. Not the same if he could change into 5
  5. Re: Evil Schemes for the Average Megalomaniac Cheers. My name is Jagged and I am a Champions Referee adict, its been 6 months since my last campaign.
  6. Re: Evil Schemes for the Average Megalomaniac Can we go all "Big Trouble in Little China" on this one? Jade Eyes Once in every few hundred years if a dragon is lucky they will find a human that is capable of baring them a child. Jade Eyes is one such person and Dorain Drake will do anything he can to possess her. Kidnap, blackmail, drugs, he will destroy the city if thats what it takes. Once the heroes have defeated him Jade Eyes will suggest he might have better luck if he tries flowers and chocolates instead.
  7. Re: Evil Schemes for the Average Megalomaniac Attack of the Bat-Men Dr Noah has successfully created an army of man-bats which he unleashes onto a city of your choice. The heores battle against this army and turn the tide. Eventually finding Dr Noahs base (Ark?) and defeat him and his strongest henchmen. The heroes are patting themselves on their backs when Caine steps out of the shadows. Unbeknownst to everyone he has been directing things from the side lines, just waiting until Dr Noah was successful. Now Caine is ready to reveal himself and his army of (now fully Vampiric) Bat Men!
  8. Re: Evil Schemes for the Average Megalomaniac Do Andoids Dream? The President invites the heroes to the White House to thank them for their recent efforts. When they are alone in the Oval Office he says he has something rather worrying he needs to confide. He then proceeds to remove his face and reveal that he is actually a very complicated android. The President explains that it is obvious that he has been replaced by a robot duplicate and that the duplicate is so realistic that even he didn't know he was a robot. Obviously the culprit behind the switch must be waiting till some point in the future before triggering some programme that will let him take control. Maybe he has done it already and I (the robot President) haven't noticed, or have been programmed not to notice! The inner workings of the robot President have been signed by Atomic Khan. The Robot President shouldn't turn evil until the very last minute when your players return the real President to the White House at which point the Robot President can morph into a very formidable fighting machine. Depending on the humor level of your campaign and the ploitical leanings of your players you may want the Robot President to do a better job than the real thing, or at least be more popular EDIT: I think I knicked this idea from an old 200AD story, Sam Slade?
  9. Re: Evil Schemes for the Average Megalomaniac The War from Time Atomic Khan hi-jacks the worlds communication channels and announces from his new base in the Cretaceous period that he now has absolute control over Time. Unless the governments of the world conceed all power to him he will remove their leaders from the time line. As he says this President Bush "vanishes" and a T-Rex appears on the White House lawn. The truth is that this is all an elaborate hoax. From he secret hide-out he has managed to cook up a few dinosaur-like creatures which he will deliver to cities of the world using his new powerful teleportation device. The same device he used to kidnap the President. His base in the "Cretaceous period" is little more than a film set with a few large ferns From deep inside his base Atomic Kahn and President Bush play Checkers to pass the time
  10. Re: Evil Schemes for the Average Megalomaniac Eco-Terrorist Many a story writer tells tales of vampires trying to block out to sun to plunge the world into eternal darkness. Caine isn't that stupid, such a thing would kill off the eco-system and Caine likes the eco-system. After all, he considers himself the highest predator at the top of the food chain. The current eco-system gives him food in abundance and if he wants for sport there is always the opportunity to hunt some super-hero prey. No, Caine likes things as they are thank you very much. He is starting to worry about the food chain though. Humans are getting so plentiful they are destroying their habitat. They are damaging the environment with their chemicals and waste. The hormones and steroids they inject into their food gets passed onwards through the food chain. Is it any wonder that humans don't taste as good as they did a mere two hundred year ago? Humans are so short lived they can't plan ahead for future generations? Its time someone took things in hand and made them look after themselves. What would any good farmer do if his flock was so effected? Possible plot devices: People caimpaigning against a new chemical factory/hydro dam/whatever are complaining that Big-Evil-Corp Inc have hired super powered cronies to strong arm the protestors. The heroes go to investigate only to find the cronies dead and strangely low on blood. Meanwhile the head of the relevant planning committee has aquired a strange taste for beetles. A factory that produces chemicals and pesticides is found destroyed. Factory workers have been torn to shreds. A day later a video is released onto the internet saying that "all substances having a hormonal or thyrostatic action" must be banned from food production or more such attacks will take place. The war on obesity: Caine likes his meat lean, which could be reason enough to take to fast foods, but what if he decided to punish those on the wrong side of the Body Mass Index? What would motivate you to get down to the gym? Big-Evil-Corp Inc have done a very public u-turn on that-thing the ecologists where all complaining about and have decided to invest in renewable energies and sustainable farming instead. What could be the cause of this change of "heart"? Might Caine have offered the CEO life everlasting? Might that explain strange deaths in the boards of rival companies?
  11. Re: Monster Island How about Chicken-Man and round out the rooster ba-boom-ching!
  12. Re: Steve's Chat (Weds., October 1) 'scuse me I'm new here ... do you publish a transcript after the event?
  13. Re: Golden Age Resources: Superweapons of WW II For some reason the line "Bigfoot rose quickly through the ranks" really cracked me up
  14. Re: No more Nazis, 'mm Kay? Ooh! Evil
  15. Re: How do I post Screenshots from CoH Actually if you just press [Print-screen] while running CoX it will save a screen shot to a directory called (I think) /screenshots underneath you game directory. There are also options somewhere under the game menus to decide whether the picture is saved as a .jpg or .tiff. By default the screenshot will not save the user interface (i.e. all the menu stuff, target box etc etc) but you can change that on the fly with the slash command: /screenshotui 1 or /screenshotui 0
  16. Re: I'm not sure how to get the PCs together! Perhaps you could give your players initial clues that would lead them to investigate each other? Then providing they can all alibi themselves quickly enough they can all work together. Of course if you want to go heavy on the mystry you can always leave a little doubt to those alibis
  17. Re: How do you guys deal with WoTC drones? Why thank you. But you started it
  18. Re: How do you guys deal with WoTC drones? I just noticed the original post is almost 5 years old. Whos the necromancer? Plus I wonder what system they are playing today?
  19. Re: How do you guys deal with WoTC drones? Actually part of the rationale behind GM created player characters is because the characters are the mos important thing. As a referee I find it far easier to create a campaign story that ties in with the player characters if I have created them myself. However going back to the D20 drone question: if the player is they type that gets excited by complex character creation then all you are going to need to do to convert them is leave them alone with the rule book for a few minutes
  20. Re: my UK hero project As an "Englander" I did enjoy the Champions UK Source Book (whatever it was called ). My favourite bit was the slang translations: "Naff off" - Please leave immediately that always made me laugh for some reason
  21. Re: E-mail Spam in a comic book universe I found this in my email this morning. Do you think its genuine?
  22. Re: E-mail Spam in a comic book universe Reply to find out how! No purchase necessary!
  23. Re: my UK hero project I suggest the heroes invest in some rubber wellies
  24. Re: Rolling lots of D6s If you really hate rolling Dice I think the sensible alternative is something like RpTools DiceTool Still think nothing beats the fun of trying to hold all those dice in you hand because your flying team mate has dive boomed your brick character into the villain and you actually managed to hit, despite all the velocity minuses I got embedded in the back of a Dinosaur that way once
