  1. Re: Adding DC to a Multipower A 1d6+1 HKA costs 20 points and, unless it has Advantages applied to it, that makes it a 20 Active Point power. Whether or not it is in a MP does not matter it is still effectively only 20 Active Points. You can add up to 20 points of STR to boost the weapon's damage up to 2 1/2d6 HKA and this makes it a 40 Active Point attack. You cannot more than double the base HKA damage with added STR so the only way to boost the attack's AP would be to apply Advantages and/or boost the base damage of the weapon. If the character will have 20 STR and you want to sword's attack to do 60 Active Points worth of effect the simplest way would be to buy the sword as a 2 1/2d6 HKA (40 Active Points) and then add your STR damage which would make a total attack of 4d6 (60 Active Points). If you add Advantages then added STR damage become more tricky. For example if the sword is 1d6+1 HKA with the Armor Piercing Advantage it would have a Active Point cost of 30. However due to the +1/2 Advantage it would now take 7.5 points of STR to boost the damage by a single damage class. So a 20 STR character could only add +2 DC to the attack making it a 2d6 AP HKA which is equal to a 45 Active Point attack.

  3. Re: What are your HERO stats like? I have always found these sorts of exercises to have mixed results. People tend to either be their own most serious critic or their own biggest booster. Most people either under or over rate themselves or do a little of each. Personal benchmarks are also a problem. For instance as I understand it a base Champions character starts off with a 10 in all primary attributes but the average person is supposed to range between 8 and 10 with below 10 being more normal. A Hero character starts off at all 10s since they are supposed to be player characters and at the top end of average. So everyones benchmarks are going to vary by a couple of points. The last time I was with a group that tried to design themselves (15+ years ago) it did not go well. The group determined that each person would design themselves and then the group as a whole would critique the result and make any adjustments that the group felt were warranted. Several people's feeling were hurt. As a result I am very leery of this sort of exercise. I bet it would work much better today if my current group did it. We are all more mature and have had years to develop thicker skins. I might try to get around to trying to do a self-construction but as always it seems I am pressed for time whenever I visit the forums. EDIT: Having known and gamed with Eosin for many years I think I can say that he really is that impressive. I am a little confused about how he knows we refer to him as "the Big Goofy Bastard" though.
  4. Re: Jokes Medicare Health Insurance, The phone rings and the lady of the house answers, "Hello." "Mrs. Ward, please." "Speaking" "Mrs. Ward, this is Doctor Jones at the Medical Testing Laboratory. When your doctor sent your husband's biopsy to the lab yesterday, a biopsy from another Mr. Ward arrived as well, and we are now uncertain which one is your husband's. Frankly the results are either bad or terrible." "What do you mean?" Mrs. Ward asks nervously. "Well, one of the specimens tested positive for Alzheimer's and the other one tested positive for AIDS. We can't tell which your husband's is." "That's dreadful! Can't you do the test again?" questioned Mrs. Ward. "Normally we can, but Medicare will only pay for these expensive tests one time." "Well, what am I supposed to do now?" "The people at Medicare recommend that you drop your husband off somewhere in the middle of town. If he finds his way home, don't sleep with him."
  5. Another Blonde Joke Two bowling teams, one of all Blondes and one of all Brunettes, charter a double-decker bus for a weekend gambling trip to Louisiana. The Brunette team rode on the bottom of the bus, and the Blonde team rode on the top level. The Brunette team down below really whooped it up, having a great time, when one of them realized she hadn't heard anything from the Blondes upstairs. She decided to go up and investigate. When the Brunette reached the top, she found all the Blondes in fear, staring straight ahead at the road, clutching the seats in front of them with white knuckles. The brunette asked, "What the heck's going on up here? We're having a great time downstairs!" One of the Blondes looked up at her, swallowed hard and whispered... YEAH, BUT YOU'VE GOT A DRIVER!

  7. Re: Jokes A penguin was driving through the desert when his car broke down. He waddled to the nearest phone to call AAA. His car was quickly towed to the nearest garage where the mechanic told him he would need a couple of hours to check out the car. The penguin, being a good natured bird, didn't complain but wandered off to find the closest supermarket. He proceeded to the frozen foods section and hung out near the fish sticks. After an hour he got in the freezer next to the vanilla ice cream and ate several gallons. Then he saw the time and went back to the garage covered in ice cream. The mechanic walked over to him wiping his hands and shaking his head saying, "It looks like you blew a seal." Blushing, the penguin said, "Oh no! It's just ice cream."
  8. Re: Jokes A man, getting on in years, finds that he is unable to perform in the bedroom. He goes to his doctor who tries a few things, but nothing seems to work. Finally, as a last resort, the doctor refers him to an African medicine man. The medicine man says, "I can cure this." With that said, he throws a white powder into a flame and there is a flash with billowing blue smoke. Then the African medicine man says, "This is powerful healing but you can only use it once a year. All you have to do is say '123' and it shall rise for as long as you wish!" The man then asks, "What happens when it's over and I don't want to continue?" The medicine man replies, "When your partner can take no more and is completely exhausted, all she has to say is '1234' and it will then go down. But be warned, it will not rise again for another whole year." The old gent rushes home, anxious to try out his new powers. That night he showers, shaves and smothers himself in aftershave. He slides into bed, cuddles up to his wife and says "123" and he feels a sudden movement in his trouser department, just as the medicine man promised. His wife turns over and asks, "What did you say '123' for?

  11. Re: Character Build question Yep, you have to buy Ranged with Healing, Aid or Drains. For (+1/2) you can make them standard ranged powers, or for (+1/4) you can make them limited range. How limited, limited range is is up to you and your GM. For instance Limited Range 8" is probably valid, perhaps 16" would be too, if you get much longer ranged than that I would say just buy the (+1/2) Advantage. As for affecting multiple characteristics or abilities. When you buy the Aid, Healing or Drain you must specify a specific ability or characteristic that is effected. You can get around this with Advantages. For a (+1/4) you can buy Variable Effects to allow you to affect any one power of a specific special effect. For example Affects Any Fire-based Power One At A Time (+1/4). On top of that you could add the Advantage Variable Effect - Multiple Special Effects (+2). With these two Advantages, totaling (+2 1/4) ouch! You could chose to affect any one ability, characteristic or power as long as you only affected one at a time. It'll be very costly. An option might be to buy a Multi-power for your Adjustment Powers and buy a lot of slots each with a different pre-defined effect. Or buy a Variable Power Pool for Adjustment Powers only.
  12. Re: Order of the Stick So, Roy is currently dead. Halley is likely to die, Belkar could be going to meet his death. V is who knows where right now but based on the tail he/she picked up V could be in grave danger. That leaves Elan and Durkon. I wonder what the chances are the somehow Elan will save everyone?

  16. Re: First role playing memory I remember role-playing the part of a good little boy back when I was 6 or 7 years old. When in fact I had all sorts of nefarious schemes that involved stealing cookies, playing in mud and watching TV too late. This would have been back around 1968-69. As hard as it is to believe now, back then I had a sort of cuteness defense that helped me make all sorts of saving throws. Failing any of those saving throws could have led to death, dismemberment or at least a paddling.
  17. Re: A Thread for Random Musings Tonight was our annual Egg Hell! Tomorrow is my office's Thanksgiving dinner (actual Thanksgiving is November 27th) so we spent a good chunk of tonight making 28 deviled eggs (that's 56 halves). About half of them with an Olive and about half without. Tomorrow is the adventure of driving to work without making too much of a mess of them.

  21. Re: Needed: A witty quote The winner. As it was pointed out by a couple of our players the character's Psychological Disads make her out to be a bit snobbish. I am out of rep right now, but it will be forthcoming.

  23. Re: Needed: A witty quote There are some pretty good ones so far. I think I will poll the gang when they gather for tonight's game and rep whoever has presented the winning quote.
  24. I am filling out the character background on a character in Hero Designer. The only background field that is blank is the Quote. Perhaps someone can suggest something witty. The character's name is Crystal. She is a female whose powers are to absorb the properties of any natural crystals that she is in contact with. In civilian life she is a very wealthy Jewelry mogul who owns a nation-wide chain of stores. As a result she is always wearing a diamond bracelet so in hero ID she assumes a form of living diamonds (high damage resistance and hardened defenses). Her powers are 70 STR and she can fire rock or crystal blasts. She can tunnel and has N-Ray vision verses the ground or rock and stone walls. She can also control nearby ground to do entangles and forcewalls. What would be a good quote for such a character?
