  1. Re: What Other Dark Champions Resources Would You Recommend? Thanks for reminding me. Heroic Adventures, volume 2 by Gold Rush Games, © 1996, Catalog Number GRH101. This was a collection of six stand alone adventures for Dark Champions. Authors were: Steven S. Long, Chris Avellone, Amy Crittenden, Greg Lloyd, Jim Crocker and Ed Carmien. Some good stuff in there and I still haven't run all of the scenarios yet.
  2. Re: What Other Dark Champions Resources Would You Recommend? There are still a couple of older edition supplements you haven't mentioned. Murderer's Row was an Enemies Sourcebook and many of its villains were not repeated in the later Predators book. An Eye for an Eye was a Sourcebook for both Dark Champions and Champions. A lot of that material has been updated and republished in 5th Edition but not all of it. Shadows of the City was a collection of three adventures usable for either Champions or Dark Champions and can be used to form a sort of mini-campaign for Dark Champions without too much effort. The currently for sale Hero Plus adventure Shades of Black is interesting. Though it is written for Champions and based in Millennium City, it can easily be shifted to Hudson City. The crimes involved are of a supernatural nature and there are autopsy reports for victims. The adventure requires some detective work by the heroes to solve. It has always been my intention to modify it into a Dark Champions game for my Weekend Warriors campaign. Not really background material but if you want to watch a good movie with a Dark Champions, gritty vigilante feel, watch Boondock Saints.
  3. Re: Training away DCV Penalties from Armor This is basically how our group has always handled it. Often I have allowed player to buy off up to half the normal armor penalty. Of course we often design our armor so that it has a DCV penalty other than the traditional encumbrance penalty.
  4. Looking at the Hero News for August 28, 2008, I noticed that Steve is working on the Ultimate Base. That got me curious so I started searching for any threads that deal with it. I can't find any, but I seem to recall that there was a discussion about "what do you want to see" or something similar. Can anyone direct me to the proper thread? I am really curious to see if we can hope for updated Danger Room rules (similar to those found in the ancient Champions III book, circa 1984). EDIT: Oops, I probably should have posted this in the Hero Games Product Line forum.
  5. Re: "Neat" Pictures A little civic pride on my part. This it the new Devon corporate tower that will finish building in Oklahoma City in 2012. 925' tall, 56-stories. Devon Energy (and OKC) are booming right now and have the $750 million for the building and the surroundings, they won't even need to finance it, they have the cash on hand. The current tallest building in OKC is the Chase tower at 504' and the largest in Oklahoma is the 667' BOK tower in Tulsa. This thing will dominate our skyline. More images of the building and its surroundings can be found here.
  6. Re: Links to one-shot adventures? The Empire Club website could be a good source for inspiration. Heck, you could simply steal plot ideas from the campaign history. Go look at the Pulp Hero Resources thread for a lot of stuff as well.
  7. Re: Real Locations that should be fantasy How about this, Mont Saint-Michel, located on a tidal island on the Normandy coast of France. I hate relying on Wikipedia for information but here it is.
  8. Re: A Thread for Random Musings My mother, bless her twisted mind, has a new theory. Apparently the Russian-Georgian war is a plot by the Bush administration to make people believe that Obama is ill-equipped to handle foreign affairs and to make McCain look like the only viable choice for president. It's okay, I don't her understand it either. I really can't figure out how they got all of those Russians and Georgians in on the conspiracy.
  9. Re: Purple Powers Perhaps ultraviolet... or grapes.
  10. Re: [Campaign] The Last Dominion
  11. Re: Horry County Hudson City - Campaign Log Very entertaining so far. I look forward to the next installment. I wish I hadn't already spent my rep for the day. Our group is hip deep in Eosin's Last Dominion campaign right now. It'll probably be "the" game for at least the next couple of months. I do hope to resume the Weekend Warriors campaign after that. Our group has expanded to eight people now and running a street level campaign for that many could pose some interesting problems.
  12. Re: A Thread for Random Videos An NFL Video about the Fly Overs just before the game. http://www.nfl.com/videos?videoId=09000d5d80924c91 So apparently this new embedded video thing only works with youtube video, or I don't know how to make it work.
  13. Re: Which sourcebook will help me out the most? As far as I know Ninja Hero has not yet been released in PDF format. They have been converting the older books, like that one, as their schedule permits but they haven't gotten to it yet. If you want some Hero based background on the Sengoku era you might be interested in the Sengoku Hero website. More of a historical setting but at least it has stuff from the right era of Japan. The Asian bestiary is published in two volumes. Volume II specifically deals with mythical monsters of Japan. Fantasy Hero would probably be pretty useful since it really gets into how to use magic in a fantasy setting. IMHO Inuyasha is basically a Fantasy Hero game, its just set in Sengoku Japan, with lots of demons and magic.
  14. Re: [Campaign] The Last Dominion Yep... It gets much more creepy. I bought Torean some PRE defense after this session.
  15. Re: Can't find description of a power I did an extensive search of all the likely sources that I can think of (Ultimate Martial Artist, 5th Edition Revised, old 5th Edition, Character Creation Handbook, etc.). I can't find a rule anywhere that says you can buy an Extra Damage Class for 4 points. You are right there are many examples of it in published characters but I can't find a place that actually spells it out as an official rule. It does not seem to be on any chart or table that lists a cost. They all talk about it but never specify its cost. It is shown on page 31 of the old Champions Deluxe book (the previous edition, last printed in 1995). I will be very interested to see if someone can find this rule and site its location.
  16. Re: The "Nice Happy" Thread I was stunned yesterday to find out that the Oklahoma Department of Transportation (my employer) had done a market study and decided that I should get a 9.12% pay raise. This will go into effect September 1st.
  17. Re: [Campaign] The Last Dominion Yeah its a pretty upsetting villain that we are up against. We ended Saturday's session with him and his ghoul underlings in sight so our next session will start with a combat. It is not something that Torean looks forward too since these things have proved to be hard to kill. Even worse is the realization that Garm Halstead must have been recently turned by the true evil that is at work so he is only a sub-boss of sorts. Things are likely to get more sticky before this is resolved. As a Bard Torean is all for heroic exploits about which to write songs and wonderful tales. But really... pus-oozing half ghoul / half mind flayers are pretty hard to work into a melodic harmony. Ya gotta give me something to work with here. Dare I say... throw me a bone.
  18. Re: "Neat" Pictures Attack my Segway Minions, Attack! Actually this is supposed to be some sort of rapid response anti-terrorist unit training in China for the Olympics. I wonder if this is really such a good idea?
  19. Re: "Neat" Pictures The Žižkov TV tower in Prague. Looks like an interesting structure. Wow, I didn't realize how large that picture was. I'm not really sure why it has large babies crawling all over it.
  20. Re: [Campaign] The Last Dominion My... that sounds pleasant.
  21. Re: What do these numbers mean? In this case -1/4 means it has a -1/4 limitation. This makes the attack cheaper since it is limited (in this case the number of shots per combat is limited). To calculate the reduced point cost for buying the power you take the cost and divide like this: Normal Cost of the power divided by 1 1/4. It is not quite the same thing as taking 25% off the cost. For instance a 40 point power less 25% would be 30. But take 40 divided by 1 1/4 and the cost is 32.
  22. Re: Order of the Stick Based on how sick Belkar is I am even more convinced that he'll...
  23. Re: Disad for Impossibly Good Health... About the only downside would be attracting unwanted attention. The character would have to have a reason for not wanted to attract this sort of attention. Otherwise, as others have stated, there is no disadvantage in this and no justification for disadvantage points.
  24. Re: Disad for Impossibly Good Health... I'd say Distinctive Features (Detectable By Uncommonly-Used Senses and/or By Simple Tests), in this case a Medical Exam. Social Limitation maybe, But I am not sure how I would do that and it'd be worth very few points. It is also possible that he could get a Reputation for being Impossibly Healthy if he is in the public eye a lot. Or to a smaller group it he associates with them a lot. Casual observers and those unfamiliar with him are not going to see good health as too odd (they might just think they are seeing him on a good day).
