  1. Re: Group Designed Anime HERO Of my group only a couple of us are into anime (8 people, 2 like anime, 1 dabbles). As a result the only anime that usually gets added is by me as the GM of our Dark Champions group. Currently in Hudson City we have Gunsmith Cats and Satella Harvenheit (from Chrono Crusade, the manga version) running around as NPCs/Allies of the Weekend Warriors (the PC Vigilantes).
  2. Re: Order of the Stick My D&D knowledge is very rusty. So I got a couple of spoiler laden questions.
  3. Re: Resource Pool Armory Questions I am the GM of this game. The Weekend Warriors have some very useful contacts within the District Attorney's office and HCPD. That helps keep investigations into their activities mis-directed. They also have to worry about their public image. If they get start getting innocent bystanders killed or over do it, they are likely to get the public sentiment against them and then problems can start. If the public gets up in arms the police will devote more effort towards the team and that spells trouble. The vigilantes are criminals in the eyes of the law (they're Vigilantes after all), but the crime-ridden city of Hudson City has a lot of other (worse) criminals to worry about (Card Shark, an on-going Mob war, large street gangs, Outlaw bikers, etc.). If these true blights on society are cleaned up or controlled and it appears that the Vigilantes are part of the solution then there is less pressure to stamp-out the vigilante menace. However if the Vigilantes go on too much of a killing spree then they are liable to draw too much attention to themselves. It is a balancing act that they constantly have to worry about.
  4. Re: Where to send the scientific expedition On a more serious note here are a few possibilities. Microquasar XTE J1550-564 Rho Cassiopeiae Crab Nebula & Pulsar LBV 1806-20 AB All of the above taken from Notable Nearby Stars website.
  5. Re: Where to send the scientific expedition Pluto is much more interesting if if is infested with the fungi of Yuggoth, the Mi-go.
  6. Re: Banned Supplement For Sale Well like I said I haven't read it and was just going on what I have heard. Based on what I have heard here I kind of wish I had a copy. But not enough to pay very much for it.
  7. Re: Banned Supplement For Sale I don't know if it was actually banned. But it is considered by many to be about the worst written adventure for Champions. It is story that generally railroads the players down the storyline. Never read it myself but that is what I have heard. That in itself makes it a collectors item of sorts. Not many were made or sold so it has a bit of Hero System history attached to it.
  8. Re: NINJA HERO campaigns I have always wanted to run a Senkogu Hero campaign. Alas, too many games and not enough time.
  9. Re: [Campaign] The Last Dominion Torean has a Lute not a flute. Other than that it looks like a nice write-up. I'll have to read it more closely tomorrow when I have more time.
  10. Re: Order of the Stick A new one is up. More proof that Celia is the most naive sentient in that world.
  11. Re: Mapping the galaxy I imagine in a few years an even better survey will change the shape again.
  12. Re: [Campaign] The Last Dominion The anticipation I have felt for Saturday's game has even grown more. Edsel (aka Torean)
  13. Re: dark champions from each of the 50 states Oklahoma would have to be the Sooner. The historical Sooners got that name by sneaking across the border into the land run areas and staking early claims in violation of law. The Dark Champions Sooner would be the fellow who bumps off potential criminals before they can commit a crime. Very proactive. Though technically I guess that would make him a serial killer...
  14. Re: Order of the Stick New one is up!
  15. Re: Ideas for combat runes The Fantasy Hero Grimoire II has a school of Rune Magic.
  16. Re: Ideas for combat runes Here are a couple of Earth Based Ideas: Earth Wall: FW (8 PD/8 ED) (Opaque Sight Group), Costs END Only To Activate (+1/4) (62 Active Points); No Range (-1/2), OIF (Must Have A Rune Inscribed Focus; -1/2), Requires A Rune Magic Roll (-1/2), Only When In Contact With The Ground (-1/4) The caster must etch a line in the ground. This causes the earth/stone to burst forth raising a wall over the area so etched. Normally this will be a three hex-side area done with the sweep of a sword, stick, or other hand held item. The rune itself need not be inscribed on the item but the rune must be in contact with the caster. The wall is about 4-5 feet thick (which is how I arrived at the approx. DEF values). The caster must be able to mark the ground so this won't work on a wooden floor, the deck of a ship, while in the water, etc. Earth Ram: EB 8d6, Area Of Effect (16" Line; +1) (80 Active Points); No Range (-1/2), OIF (Must Have A Rune Inscribed Focus; -1/2), Only When In Contact With The Ground (-1/4) Most of the limitations of the Earth Wall apply to this spell as well. The effect is that the caster jabs or marks the ground causing an ram of earth to burst forth in a straight line. Is this the sort of stuff you are looking for? If it is I will think a while and try to come up with some others. Based on your examples you may only be interested in SFX that apply to the user only and not his surroundings. EDIT: I am also guessing on the sorts of stuff you are looking for based on my meta-game knowledge of our home campaign. I surmise that this is arising from Jeff wanting a character reminiscent of of the characters from the anime Full Metal Alchemist, who are alchemists in name only. All of their magic is based on the symbols that they employ. Transmutation magic that relies on a symbol focus. The spells I listed above are similar to effects from a couple of episodes that I have seen. I can see your challenge here, you need something that will fit with your campaign while trying to achieve something that will satisfy what Jeff wants in a character.
  17. Re: What Have You Watched Recently? Paprika. The Oklahoma State Library got a copy so I finally got around to checking it out. Very good animation, deep storyline, but almost confusing in its complexity. I won't be buying it, and of course it cost me nothing to view the library copy. It is probably worth a view to most people who are into anime at all. It held my interest well and was a complete story (it wasn't left hanging like some anime is).
  18. Re: Hero Dice and the Glory of Hero I have 36 of them and a Hero Dice Bag to keep them in.
  19. Re: What's your favorite Champions supplement? What my favorite is varies over the course of time. I'll limit this to adventure/sourcebooks. Currently my list (in no particular order) would include: Shades of Black by Allen Thomas Watchers of the Dragon by Steven S. Long Hudson City Blues by Edward J. Carmien (technically this is Dark Champions)
  20. Re: [Campaign] The Last Dominion To late tonight for me to look at it much but I am sure it is horribly devious. I think it is a good thing that we decided killing Oliver wasn't worth the potential entanglements it could cause.
  21. Re: First edition Champions Actually the 1st Edition was a stand alone book with color cover (I have one). The revised, or 2nd edition, came in a box. The box had a color cover identical to 1st Edition but the book inside the box had a black and white cover.
  22. Re: "Neat" Pictures The bottom link started working for me but the top one still errors out. What I can see with the second link is pretty amazing.
  23. Re: "Neat" Pictures Both links give me a 403 Permission Denied Error.
  24. Re: Jokes Disabled Vet A man applies for a job at the Department of Transportation. The interviewer asks him, 'Are you allergic to anything?' He says 'Yes - just caffeine. 'Have you ever been in the service?' 'Yes,' he says. 'I was in Iraq for two years.' The interviewer says, 'That will give you five extra points toward employment,' and then asks, 'Are you disabled in any way? The guy says, 'Yes 100%..an IED exploded near me and blew my testicles off.' The interviewer tells the guy, 'O.K. In that case, I can hire you right now. Normal hours are from 8 AM to 4 PM. You can start tomorrow at 10:00 - and plan on starting at 10 AM every day.' The guy is puzzled and says, 'If the hours are from 8 AM to 4 PM, why don't you want me to be here before 10 AM? 'This is a government job,' the interviewer says. 'For the first two hours we just stand around drinking coffee and scratching our balls. No point in you coming in for that.
