I also have to say that, as a reinterpretation of comic-book lore, the cinematic Ten Rings are the most original, imaginative, and aesthetically beautiful example I've ever seen.

I only knew five, but one of them was from Justice League Unlimited. I think you know which one.

And how did they do that?  With relatively new, fresh concepts and stories, with strong interesting and likable characters that largely (at least until recently) stayed away from being preachy or woke.
 
A lesson Hollywood still does not seem to have learned.

Well great cinema used to be enjoyable, interesting and great to watch.
 
Now you basically two types of movies.
 
1) Bang whoosh bizzanga like Supers movies or John Wick.
 
2) Lifeless dull sermons about someone's holy crusade of the minute.
 
The idea of making an engaging movie that can actually be enjoyed by anyone is a dead concept.

This Shang-Chi film is all the more impressive when you consider the history of the character (and especially his original father).  Replacing the jewelry with chi sau rings was only one of many small touches along these lines.

Just watched Shang-Chi. 
No idea why people are so down on it. 
It was a fun supers movie and I enjoyed it more that The Dark World, Iron Man 3 and Endgame.  
 
I may still think Ironman 1, Captain America 1 and Avengers 1 were better.  But that is because they were my favorites out of the movies made.
 
All in all Shang-Chi was a good supers movie.

Shang-Chi greatly exceeded my admittedly low expectations.  It worked as both a wuxia film and a MCU movie, and managed to tell a new story on top of that.  If I try real hard I can think of imperfections, but nothing that pulled me out of the movie or is otherwise even worth bringing up here.  Simu isn't Jackie or Donnie but he held up the action sequences surprisingly well, and I liked all the callbacks to classic martial arts movie tropes.

Electro and Thor always have strong character arcs.

That's also similar to the premise of 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968 movie), which Jack Kirby adapted for comics in 1976, and followed up with a short-lived series; which parallels the concept in Eternals of advanced aliens meddling with the genes of human ancestors. Eternals resembled a blend of Clarke's and von Daniken's concepts, with a big dollop of Jack's New Gods. I remember reading a remark by Kirby that New Gods was written from the perspective of the gods looking down on humanity, whereas the Eternals took the viewpoint of humanity looking up at the gods.

You may be wondering why both items are in the same paper.  It's because it's a compilation of two weeks worth of the original daily newspapers.  

I saw Eternals today.  Given the clunky nature of the comic book source material, IMHO this is the best adaption that could have been make.  It takes the source material seriously and never plays it for camp.  The actors are all very good, though given the large cast some characters get bet fleshed out than other.  There is humor but never at inappropriate times.  The stakes are huge both for the world and the characters personally and they give them the the weight that they are due.
 
Viewers who go in looking for another MCU action comedy are going to be disappointed.  But viewers who like comic books and don't feel a need to wink wink nudge nudge the story may enjoy Eternals.

Doctor: "You've been bitten by a radioactive shark."
 
Patient: "So I'm going to get shark powers, right?"
 
Doctor: "You no longer have legs."
 
Patient: "Just like a shark!"
