1. Re: How do I determine this... I haven't gotten around to reading the books yet, but on the show, they don't run around using some powers, have a drink, then use some more powers. They just eat, like the rest of us. If they don't, they have problems. Blood is not "fuel" in the show, like it is in the Vampire the Masquerade game.
2. Re: Artifact: The Coin Of Shifting Fortunes (5th Ed) I'm not sure Requires a Coin Toss is worth -1. What makes it worth more than Gestures?
3. Re: johann krauss (Hellboy) On the third hand, it could indicate an influx of new blood, which is always a nice thing.
4. Re: Order of the Stick Heh, I just read like 500 odd chapters of manga over the last few days, and didn't realize I was reading it right to left until the third row in.
5. Re: Secondary stats Well, technically, they're all still there. Just have to buy them separately. You could always make a rule that the player has to buy up the formerly figured stats to a minimum of what the old figureds would have been. They could be allowded to have one of those stats be lower than the old figured amount to simulate the ability to sell down one figured stat. But I don't see the point. Is using the stats without having them be figured stats causing any issues? Like players neglecting to buy them up enough? Or inconsistencies across characters? Some one on one with the players could help fix those sorts of things.
6. Re: HERO Dice App for Android - know one? Skimwords has been active on the boards for a while. You just don't see a lot of links due to the nature of most of the discussions, I think. I don't see them at all because I use Firefox with AdBlock Plus.
7. Re: How do you interrogate thugs and villains? Interrogation and torture are two different things*. If the rules as written suggest otherwise (I dunno, the old ones I have don't seem to, though), then they are in error. Interrogation can be far more subtle and effective than torture. The conversation, persuasion and charm (seduction) skills may represent a true interrogator's toolkit better than just the interrogation skill, and could all be used as complimentary skills. Also as noted, the deduction skill is useful. Eidetic Memory or a science skill in Psychology could be useful. Knowledge skills in the target's culture could also be useful. For immediate information, like "Where's the bomb?!" a big hairy PRE attack might do the job. *I knew a couple of Army interrogators through language school. Totally different job specialty than torturer.
8. Re: Djinn I suspect that it's just a video game variety. In other words, nothing specific, just a general Western conception of what a genie should look like, with whatever artistic flair their art team brought to it. Wikipedia isn't bad for researching this type of stuff, and there's also the Encyclopedia Mythica. Yeah, the game can have some pretty inspirational art.
9. Re: Where does it show the price list for Hero system equipment guide. It's sad, because of the implicit assumption that our educational system has sunk so low. Which it probably has. Then don't rap our knuckles with a ruler. (Actually, I don't think I entered the thread until after you, so I'm not in that particular "we" anyway.) Nobody was doing anything infraction worthy, here. If the OP posts in an abrasive manner, he's going to get a little bit of that back from a few people. It's inevitable. The response was pretty mild, IMO. I don't see the point in coddling poor communication skills or an abrasive attitude. At the same time, nobody really went all out on him, either, AND he got several very salient answers to his questions in both threads.
10. Re: Djinn Beats me. I don't have any transformation devices. I'm still low level on CO.
11. Re: Djinn Let me Google that for you: http://www.google.com/search?q=champions+online+djinn&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a First hit is a youtube video of the djinn device.
12. Re: reference material for Street Heroes The Sentinel and The Pretender were two shows with stuff that would probably fit into a street level game. The sledge hammer fight at the end of Streets of Fire is inspirational to me: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xv3I1p10sGI
13. Re: From Superfriends to Watchmen: The Extremes of Superheroes My first thought was, bad GM. Then I realized your group made a bunch of non-combatants in a mutant hunting campaign and I forgave your GM. =P
14. Re: Where does it show the price list for Hero system equipment guide. Then shall we continue to discuss the matter?
15. Re: Where does it show the price list for Hero system equipment guide. I agree with you that we should be nice to the newcomers. As far as forums go, this one's pretty pleasant in my experience, and I've been here through maybe six iterations of the boards. However, I don't think it's necessary to give a blanket pass to poorly-worded rants or to text-speak, or to assume that either is due to youth. Given the international nature of the Web, I'm surprised that the first thing you came to for the language usage was age rather than being a non-native speaker. That's sad. I think it's fine to ask for clarification or to point out when someone isn't communicating clearly. I agree with you that it should be done politely, but not for your reasons. Any native speaking young person who wants to communicate can use the basic skills they learned in grade school to compose a coherent sentence. As to the other thread, the ribbing received didn't seem excessive (though maybe repetitive), and seemed to be well-earned.
16. Re: Where does it show the price list for Hero system equipment guide. Those palindromedary salesmen get ya coming and going...
17. Re: List Your CO Heroes! I've added: Mister Midnight, Unleashed. Freeform Dual Blades. level 20ish. This is probably my favorite costume, just haven't settled on an archetype I like for him. I may pick up one of the martial arts archetypes if I don't like Unleashed, but I may wait to see if they release a brawler. I'd really like to go with Savage, but the attack animations don't match the concept. Arrow Guy, Marksman Freeform Archer, level 20ish. I'm kind of liking Arrow Guy. I've decided that he got the name when his super group had their first press conference, and he wise-cracked, "I'm the arrow guy, ......" but never got to say his actual code name because of an interruption.
18. Re: Black Enchantress What I want to know is how she uses her henchmen? Is she using them to capture people to sacrifice or do other nefarious things to? Otherwise, the stun-only blasters they have seem at odds with her description of being utterly evil.
19. Re: From Superfriends to Watchmen: The Extremes of Superheroes I'll toss my vote in for JLU/DCAU tone being favored. Or late Silver, early-Bronze age, but without the GM being a d-bag and saying, "You roll to catch Gwen in your webbing... but the shock at the bottom breaks her neck!" Seriously. I'll never let Gerry Conway GM for me. As for Watchmen, I find it odd that the OP used it at the counter example, then later describes the style of game as: The Watchmen definitely had personal lives. I don't know that the thing is nearly as revolutionary or as important to comics history as a lot of people seem to think, though. The story was just a morality play hung over a fairly simple plot. The characters having some depth is what made it work for me, though.
20. Re: From Superfriends to Watchmen: The Extremes of Superheroes And by "stat" he means "star." Not to be pedantic about the type-o, just to prevent someone looking for a mouseover about stats. =)
21. Re: OT: Anyone try out STO FTP yet? I think I know the answer to this, but I'm going to ask just in case: When you zoom close to your character, the camera jumps over to stand to the character's right. It's super annoying. Any way to make it not do that? Finished first mission after tutorial. Or maybe it was a continuation of the tutorial, I dunno. Rescue mission that rewards you with second crew member. Was OK. Controls are still a bit to get used to. Clunky is a word that comes to mind, but still pretty playable. I like it well enough, but the length of the missions (do this! great! now do that! thanks! can you just do just one more little thing for me... ) makes me not want to login unless I'm sure that I'm going to have enough time to sit through one without interruptions. Given the medical stuff, I haven't logged in as much as I otherwise might have.
22. Re: OT: Anyone try out STO FTP yet? I tried some space battles today. I drive like a drunken maniac, but it was pretty fun. Do the things have a reverse? 'Cause that'd help.
23. Re: OT: Anyone try out STO FTP yet? Speaking of ship names, when you get a new ship, do you have to get a new name? Or can you reuse the same name on the new ship, either by repeating it or just renaming the first ship to something else and renaming the new ship to the first name?
24. Re: OT: Anyone try out STO FTP yet? Yeah, I can't believe another smart-alec didn't think of it already. =)
25. Re: OT: Anyone try out STO FTP yet? Got my Vulcan science officer, T'Pau of the USS Heart and Soul through the tutorials last night. Pretty interesting game. Lots of stuff to keep track of and lots of keybinds to remember.
