  1. Re: Champions legacy Can't remember where and precisly when I started Champions. Probably early 80's, and no, I was not in the Navy. I probably picked it up at a gaming store called "Wanna play?" in Cincinnati. The owner always suggested something when I came in, and most of what he suggested was a gem. Darn it, he was a good merchant, I almost always spent too much money there.
  2. Re: Newspaper Headlines All would keep an eye on the museum. All except Volt would laugh at the criminals demises. Futurian would say "Darwin Award candidates." Volt would possibly laugh, but then think to himself "Shame they could not have turned to the straight and narrow before they died." Yes, he's silver age in tone, why do you ask?
  3. Re: Skills. How much is too much? What did you start with? I always ask for at least one non combat skill (or talent or perk) at 10 points or more. There is no such thing as too much spent on skills, unless the campaign is combat heavy, and the character is nothing but skills. In that case, the character or campaign must be modified.
  4. Re: Greased Is The Word After change - Volt -Put a barrier around Gomer to protect him. Once Volt wakes up (side effect) he would take Gomer in. Olorin - to Gomer- "If you want to live, drop the gun. If you want to become swiss cheese, go ahead and fire." If he drops the gun, take him in. If not, well, he was about to fire, wasn't he? Black Tiger - Take Gomer down to the floor and call the police. Leadman - "Drop the gun or I'll let them shoot.' (See Olorin) Futurian - "Wow man, I'd drop the gun. Unless you want suicide by stupidity," (See Olorin)
  5. Re: Greased Is The Word Volt would point out that firing is not necessary if the perp is not firing or about to. Then leave it up to the police and local DA to work out. Olorin. Laugh and do what Volt does. Black Tiger. Didn't see anything, had something in his eye. Oh well, the police can handle this. Leadman - see Volt's response. Futurian - (supressed laugh) "Oh wow. Darwin award candidate." Then totally forget about it unless reminded.
  6. Re: Would your hero register his Secret ID with Primus? Volt would register, and has. Olorin has a public ID. The rest would not register, and Black Tiger would give you a very evil look if you even suggested it.
  7. Re: You ARE Dr.Destroyer All my characters - start with Cygnia's idea. Then change the armor's look so they could do good. Turn in any bad guys I had info on, but claim bases (at least two) to put to good use. Olorin would change the armor to look like - Olorin. Not so much an ego thing, but people tend to think he can do anything, so why not up the scale? Olroin could also look for problems with the mind side, but not the tech. Futurian could check out the tech side. And then... "Man, I am going to have sooo much fun. Hey, pretty advanced for this time period, but not up to mine. He really did do a good job with the available tech, better than I could. Hey, he has one of those? Wow..." Blast follows - "Yep. Soooo much fun."
  8. Re: "Neat" Pictures I find it interesting that the first pro baseball team, the Cincinnati Reds, with a logo of captial "C" was not on the periodic table, and instead a logo I did not recognize was used as carbon.
  9. Re: WWYD - Killer in the fold Volt - Would be appalled if the deaths were not necessary, and turn the guy in. Olorin could almost be the killer. Almost. He killed quite a few where he came from. He only refrains because he does not have the authority to do so - and he has argued for him - and others - for "a license to kill" or as he puts it "the ability to meet justice, both high and low." It is almost certain that someday he'll kill someone illegally - especially if noone saw. if someone else did it he would turn in the killer if the thought the victim did not derserve killing. Black Tiger - If he thought the victim deserved it, it would be "I didn't see anything." otherwise he'd turn the killer in. Leadman - pretty much the same as Black Tiger, but it would eat at him more. Futurian "Oh wow. Dead body. Fragic." And then promptly forget about it unless pressed. Then he would fo Black Tigers route - only more silly and scattered.
  10. Re: Past and Future collide: Opportunity All except Olorin would take care of the time anomolies first. Since "It will put back everything the way it is supposed to be" the people 'dying' should come back. If not, very probably destroying Mechanon would be a net plus. But of course "the way it is supposed to be" may mean Mechanon is still around. He'd give it a go anyway.
  11. Re: Past and Future collide Volt - investigate as best he can and deal with any problems as best he can. It's a bit beyond his abilities. Olorin - "Not again. First, find the origin point. Next, close it. Then send everything back where it belongs. Shoot, where are the gods when I need them? The third thing is a bit beyond me." Yep, he can do the first two as long as he stays out of the magic dead areas. The third - unless shutting down the origin point fixes it, it is beyond his ability. Black Tiger "Great. #$*%@" then do what Volt does. Leadman - "Oh wonderful. We are all doomed." then act like Volt. Futurian "Hey, don't look at me, I didn't do it. .... At least not on purpose..... Oh, all right, my just being here might have caused this. I have no idea how to fix this, just like I have no idea on how to go back home. .... OOOO a T-rex! .... Wow, an antique - a personal force field thats visible!" He'd probably be way too distracted by the chaos to do anything. Which really is beyond him unless his being in the present caused it - or his attempts to go back home caused it.
  12. Re: Super Powered nation: 40 Days and 40 nights Volt - he would go- and talk to the guy.Try to sound him out. Would ask him if he considered payment for the destroyed nuclear plant. He'd point out it was legal at the time and they could have been asked to leave or shut it down. He'd also ask if he ever considered what the people in the county to be reunited would want. And then repsond accordingly. He'd use the pill if reponses were poor. Olorin - Best person to send. Could bring in others to help if needed-and this is known by very few. He could, in effect, do a spell to find the truth about this guy - and the guy would not know it unless Menton level. He'd act accordingly and use the pill if needed. If he had time, he'd find out the truth about the pill. He'd love to duplicate it, but that would be unlikely. All the rest - except Futurian - would not go. Futurian - "Oh, this is going to be fun. If he trys to change me, my nanites should stop that. I hope he's surrounded by tech when I talk to him, he could be in for a suprise." He'd actually take it seriously. However, he's no diplomat. Unless, the guy was a true hero, which I doubt, ther will be a fight. No tech and Futurian is doomed. Lots of high tech, and Futurian will probably win. In any case, any machines Futurian gets near will not work according to original specs. - Use your imagination - and Futurian can be quite a goofball.
  13. Re: "Your Most Embarassing Game Mastering Moment" I don't think I ever had players spend all their time on what I had planned. Roleplaying other things and/or doing things in my scenario I had not planned occurred all the time. I love it.
  14. Re: Super powered Nation-The Lightning strikes Since the hero blames himself, this is what Volt would say. And my other characters would agree. "You messed up. You hesitated. Well, you're human after all. You are not infallable. You feel responsible? Then mentor the good supers coming out of this and fight the villains. Do not withdraw from the world. Do not let yourself be locked up or killed. If you are responable, respond! Respond with the good! Otherwise, you have failed again, and worse this time. After all, you did not do this. You just messed up. Now grow up, stop feeling sorry for yourself, and be a hero!"
  15. Re: Super powered Nation-The Lightning strikes Every single character of mine would say a version of the following: "Do not deal with this as a nation or group. That way lies prejudice with all the evils that follow. It could lead to war between normals and supers. Deal with individuals and what they do. Punish evil. Reward, or at least do not punish good. Mentor the ones who want to do good or are on the fence. Yes, this could result in great evil. Or great good. Humanity tends to be that way. If you want no evil, kill everyone. To prove you are not a hypocrite, start with yourself. I will help the good ones and oppose the evil. Go against all, and I will put you into the evil catagory. That is all." Those precise words would probably be Volt or Olorin (more likely Volt). Futurian would probably say it this way: " Riiiight. Condemn a whole group for what they are, not what they do. Suuure. Tell you what, since you may someday commit a crime that warrents death, lets kill you now. Thats where your logic leads. ..... Idiot!"
  16. Re: Storn's Art & Characters thread. Although I think all the pictures are great, the second version on each looks less washed out.
  17. Re: Game Time & Experience pts. My scenarios tend to take quite a while to play. 24+ hours are normal for them. However, that includes chit-chat, breaks to eat, role playing, etc. Actual gaming, including roleplaying about 1/2 that. I give 1 or two points about every time actual powers/skills are used, with bonuses for good roleplaying per game session. (which is 2-3 hours actual playing.)
  18. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... We need to stop these puns wight now!
  19. Re: You are unappreciated when . . . When you get sued for saving someone's life. Wait, didn't that occur in The Incredibles? When the police ticket your vehicle for illegal parking when you just saved the city. When you are arrested for trespassing when you stopped a building fire.
  20. Re: Superhumans changing the course of history I actually gamed 9/11 once with people I knew would appreciate it. It was not prevented. All the crashes went almost (the Pentagon was less damaged due to an NPC hero sacrificing himself) as our history did, because the people who could have stopped it were in the wrong spot. The difference? Fewer people died because more rescues occurred. More bodies were recovered (mainly due an NPC locating them.) Less collateral damage. Osama Bin Laden captured (actually by US armed forces) about 6 months later (again, due to the same NPC doing his locating thing.) Yes, my campaign is not silver age. Somewhere between bronze and iron. (I call it Bronze age with whispers of iron) So heroes can change things. Anywhere from totally to very little.
  21. Re: Your PCs might be Underpowered if... ..if the guy with a tinketoy set is the gadgeteer.
  22. Re: Quote of the Week From My Life. Shoot, I've had people get offended/have a raw nerve hit when I was the subject of the joke I just delviered. And I'm talking me not my gender/race/age/weight etc. One exception so far. I've yet to have anyone react badly to my bald jokes. And yes, I am bald. And I collect the jokes. Here's one of my favorites: God created only so many perfect heads. The rest He covered with hair.

    Inspiration

Re: Inspiration Wow. I had to think about that a bit. Volt - his powers - no one. Just a concept I came up with. Personality - basically silver age superman, except introvert and uncomfotable with crowds. Olorin - Uh... Well, when I created him I told the other players "I'm creating a super mage that is bascially my sense of humor let run loose with the power to back it up." They all said some version of "OMG!" So I guess my crazy sense of humor is my inspiration. Black Tiger - The only inspiration I can come up with is that he is based loosely and another players character(s), only not quite so dark - yet. Leadman - Puddleglum from the Chronicles of Narnia(The Silver Chair in particular) in temperament. Powers are mostly The Thing from fantastic four - but with limited gravity control. Futurian - ripped off almost unchanged from a friend in another group. David, I thank you. Futurian lives!
  24. Re: Make Your Own Motivational Poster Someone please rep Mattingly for me. I can't, and my rule of repping anyone who had me laugh out loud was invoked. (it was the picture of the slashed jeans that did it.)
  25. Re: Your PCs might be overpowered if... ... if they scowl at Galactus (or Darkseid) and he begs forgiveness.
