I have a weird non-issue in that whenever I go to the Hero store I am often confronted with the option of PDF or hardcopy + PDF. I know the PDF is essentially a free add-on and I don't have to download it, but I always want to ask "could I just have the hard-copy ala carte, please?" Electronic copies are like carbs. As I get older, I find I don't want or need as many. 😈

And Tiger use Poignard and Esprit in his books, along with new members.

    The member list:
    (Professor) Muerte,
    Kabuki (new),
    Gigante (formerly mistranslated as Giganto),
    Poignard,
    Sabot (new),
    Espirit,
    Bruja Balam (new),
    Charon (new),
    Equinox (new),
    Perro Muerte (new, agents),
    Agents of Terror (agents),
    Recovery Bot (new, agents, robot),
    Infirmany Bot (new, agents, robot),
    Security Bot (new, agents, robot).

While Tiger's version of Terror Incorporated doesn't need more members per say (nine supervillains and five agent types), Muerte doesn't always want his presence known. This, he has contacts to a few superpowered mercenary groups. I suggest the Assasinos (sp!) because they are mostly Hispanic and live/work in the same area.

You can learn more about them in TPP Villain Compendoum 1, till Tiger makes his book. The Assisanos (sp!) are in another e-book.

By the way, he has Steve Perrin's permission (and I believe he is now the head writer at Heroic Publishing).

Given that not every major disaster that happens in the world (earthquake, typhoon, hurricane, flooding, etc) will be stopped by superheroes, what resources might exist at the government or NGO level to deal with the aftermath that don’t exist in the real world?

For example, what exists in the CU?

I completely agree, Opal. I think that's why we see occasional posts on the Hero Boards wondering about The Guardians characters and campaign.

How about a god or robot that needs to be reassembled?

For example, in Egyptian mythology, Set killed his brother Osiris and scattered the pieces of his body.

Isis went on a quest and retrieved the body parts and temporarily revived Osiris with a spell. Their son Horus was conceived and when he grew up eventually defeated his uncle Set.

Or maybe a giant Power Ranger's style Zord which needs all the heroes inside to power it. And maybe a few follow-up sessions with at least some of the players being partially depowered because their powers were "used up" in the Zord. (The depowering being negotiated with the players in advance with an eventual small experience bonus attached.)

    Magrathea!

Yes, the planet Earth is the Maguffin and the Empress has NO idea.  She knows it's a living organism (the whole Earth is a very complex organism for Maguffin purposes) but thinks it's something in the Earth, or made by people, or maybe animals, or aliens brought it or whatever.

I too am like most old folks.  Born in 1964, worked for 25 years in a field I enjoyed till I couldn't compete in the nail-banging business, started doing retail arbitrage, got married in 2008, had my first child in 2009, 2nd in 2012, and 3rd in 2019.

OK, so I'm (re)starting a Champions campaign, based on my Earth, 2030 setting <link>; my plan, is after getting the players to settle into their cosmic-powered characters with a few "normal" games, I'll start to seed the campaign with minions of the Empress coming to Earth (and perhaps the other two alien's systems) to find "something" (the MacGuffin(s).

These are to serve the same purpose as the Infinity Stones in the MCU or the Mother Boxes in the DCEU; very powerful items, the heroes do not want the Empress to have.

I plan to try to keep the MacGuffins secret for as long as possible, having the players uncover that there is an actual conspiracy to gather them prior to the Empress' arrival (I don't even want the characters to know about her either, but to discover that she's coming as they go along in the campaign also) - it'll be a big reveal at some point, as many beings will be fleeing her (causing their own chaos in their wake), so to get the players/characters to be worried/scared before they even face her in any real way.

In my campaign, the Empress' main motivation is to enslave the galaxy; much like the Roman Empire, she feels she's bringing order, peace and civilization to the barbarians - so she's the hero in her 'story' (or head; of course, aren't they all)...

So, what is she sending her minions to gather?  I've decided they can be either (keys to the?) super-powerful MacGuffin(s) (or are they the MacGuffins themselves?) she needs to help her enslave the populous (e.g., the afore mentioned Infinity Stones or Mother Boxes, or One Ring for that matter) - OR - they could be (keys to the?) the one thing that could defeat her, and she wants them gathered so they cannot be used against her (she may collect them, or try to destroy them, or whatever).

Whatever they are, they just "awoke" when the Earth crossed the threshold (per my setting's mythology), which is what got her attention and answers the "why now?" question.  So, anyone have any good ideas for what she's looking for?

OK another question for the folks here.  The Player's Book is riddled with images and captions, trying to break up the text into smaller bits and make it hold attention better.  I have two different options for formatting, as shown below.

Now, the first option saves space and packs in more into fewer pages, but has longer sections of text (eek!  its longer than a Text Message!).  The second option makes the text look less intimidating and long, but takes up a lot more space.  Any thoughts on which would be better and come across best for new players (particularly younger ones)?

I would say #2, but I really like #1 (less space wasted). I would ditch the actual comic book panels unless you actually want to be used by Disney or Warner Brothers/Time Life Incorporated.

That's the one, Scott. Rumor mill had it that Sean was looking at producing a Guardians book for Prowlers & Paragons, though I'm not 100% if the book is still on the docket. I would love to see a book like this converted over to Hero as well.

Scott, any chance you could mention this thread? Maybe see of anyone else could give some more info? It's really too bad that we don't have a 40th Anniversary book for Champions coming out. The Guardians campaign would've made an awesome landmark for the system.

He helped me answer a question I'd had for a while.  Easy going guy; great to get along with.  Shoot him a PM, as I think the discord is his current weapon of choice.  (I had to bow out of it; too unstructured for my tastes)

Considering doing a a product that will be called Book of Muerte.

Will house all information released so far on Muerte & Terror inc., updated  & re-edited, information on TITechCorp and some new material added.

Will also include the upcoming title Island of San Muerte. Some other ideas I have for Muerte & Terror Inc., as well as some adventure ideas.

Title will be print on demand as well as releasing individual products for the new material for those that don't wish to purchase the print on demand or have purchased the older material previously. Looking towards next year for possible release

What else would you like to see?

My favorite latest one was a quadriplegic who used mind scan, clairvoyance, and mental powers to project an image of a hero to a location with the other heroes, pretending to be a teleporting wizard.   He stayed home controlling a remote, distant projection that did the hero work.  The cost was so much that even with 400 points the hero wasn't real powerful but had a lot of AVAD attacks and such to make up for it.  The GM didn't even respond to my character submission

Necro-ing this topic to add a few characters.  I never made a player character who was too weird, but during 10 years as a GM, I made some strange NPC concepts.

I did play one PC who wasn't especially weird, but his concept came out of my own contrarian response to something in the rules.  The Extra Limb rules in early editions said you could get a bonus to OCV by attacking unexpectedly with the extra limb(s), but not to DCV, obviously, because that makes no sense.  Well, I set out to imagine an extra limb that could plausibly help with dodging but *could not possibly* deal damage...and thus Flying Squirrel was born.  He was a successful and popular character in a years-long campaign.

For NPCs, possibly the strangest was the Gerrymander.  When subjected to stress and fear, milquetoast political consultant/campaign manager (picture Rick Moranis) Gerald Manders would involuntarily turn into the Gerrymander, a weird, flat, segmented dragon-like monster that was constantly twisting, folding and unfolding, and producing extra appendages with claws.  The apparently mindless, raging monster absorbed physical blows and energy, putting the points into Duplication....when a sufficient point total was reached, it would divide into two Gerrymanders, and so on.  I statted him out to 8 total duplcates, but the most we ever got into play was 2.  He also had a big self heal that was bought as some sort of permanent thing, but linked back to the Duplication, so it essentially only went off once each time he duplicated (so that the duplicates would be scary instead of nearly dead).  The secret to defeating the beast was to stop beating on it and employ gentler means of absorbing the rage....one time they hurled it into deep water.  (Unlike the illustration in the Wikipedia article, my version lacked wings.)  The players developed a much better approach -- keep Gerald Manders safe and blissfully ignorant of conflict and stress.  In a few adventures, babysitting Gerald and keeping him unaware of scary things was considered a prestigious and critical job.  "What was that loud crash!?"  "Oh, it's trash pickup day, Gerald.  Now tell me about the demographics of District 11, that sounded fascinating."

My hands-down favorite NPC was Stevie Far-Traveler.  Stevie had pretty over-the-top time travel powers, the kind you never let players get their hands on.  He was also a Down Syndrome kid.  Sweet, innocent, friendly kid who didn't usually recognize when he was being manipulated by bad guys.  Clearly, an existential threat to the timeline and a complete wild card.  Possibly the safest thing to do would be to lock him up, despite the moral repugnance of doing so -- his power was vastly dangerous.  However, no government or villain could control him for long, as he was for all practical purposes invulnerable (being able to see everything coming) and could disappear into time and space on a whim.  He showed up periodically through the campaign, smiling like a cherub, sometimes remembering the players (the first time they met, he remembered them as friends) and sometimes "before" he had met and grown to trust them.  He arrival was usually associated with some high-pucker-factor threat like a railgun tank from the far future (he thought the touchscreen controls were a video game, and was happily blowing up the landscape), or "Hey guys, wanna see a Tyrannosaurus?"  Sometimes villains would attempt to bribe, nab, trick, or control him.  The players tried to be protective of him, but he was never around for long, as his attention span was too short and there were so many interesting things to see.

I'm just about ready to start. I decided I'm going to rely on Enemies II (1982) as the campaign opens, and branch out from there.
So if you're building a character, choosing one of those villains would fit right in.

Note that the game is set in 1981, but the ruleset is Champions 3, 4, 5. (If any die-hards want to use even earlier editions of Champions, I can actually work with that.)

Take a look at Shelley McTyre's explanation of how pbem games work if you're thinking of joining, and send me a PM. :D
