  1. Re: Help with some character ideas A scrappy kid: pickpocket and eavesdropper. I take it we're going with a SE Asia theme here, so he's the son of pirates. The captain fought the pirates and the kid, hoping that maybe the hero wouldn't beat him like his parents (being pirates) did, stowed away on the Airacuda. Officially, he's just a helping hand. A British or American doctor? Or go with the Face/Con-man with a goatee and make him a doctor. Them's is handy.
  2. Re: My Ferris Bueller Writeup. Yeah, I was just counting Camerons car as his useful resource, and, technically, the car that he lost was not his own, so he still might have it. He also had enough con-man skills to make a reasonable sidekick. Hmmm, Jeanie as a rivalary. not a bad idea. As for how to use Ferris in a campaign? He can be a handy friend or an annoying enemy. Offer him a nice car (or even one that just runs) and he'll probably do anything short of murder or hurting his friends. Useful if you don't have a good face man in your group. On the other hand, Ferris has real authority issues. If a team member comes across as pushy or bossy, Ferris may take revenge in the form of practical jokes, public humilliation, etc. Not a leathal hunted, but certainly an irritating one.
  3. Re: Usable As Second Mode Of Movement Now, if you tunnel through liquid, can you pay extra to leave the tunnel open behind you? because that would be kinda cool.
  4. Re: Pulp Martial Arts Badness (Dice were hot) Kinky! Wish I had a good group to game with regularly

  6. Re: Your Hometown For Pulp Moscow, Idaho? Well, there would've still been a lot of mining in nearby cities, especially silver and precious stones. Moscow itself put most of its economy in farming wheat and other grains. The towns most distinctive feature is the University, which opened in 1892. In 1906 (too early for Pulp, but whatever) the administration building caught fire. Arson was suspected but never proven. In 1938 Elanor Roosevelt spoke at the memorial Gym, wich was built as a memorial to the students who died in WW1 IIRC, during the pulp era, the largest school would've been Agriculture. EDIT: originally wrote 1838, but 1938 is correct. thanks to Basil for the correction.
  7. Re: My Ferris Bueller Writeup. I actually didn't think that Sloane was that good looking, but then I generally don't care for Hollywoods lady offerings. Her biggest problem was that she wasn't really a fun character. Did she have any personality traits?
  8. Re: My Ferris Bueller Writeup. I originally put in Sloane as a DNPC (not quite enough resources to qualify as a contact or follower) and Jeanie as a Hunted, but I already had well over 50 pts worth of disadvantages.

    Pulparize It!

Re: Pulparize It! Red Dawn: The Germans roll into France. A group of four hear it on the radio and flee into the Massif Central. They try to live off the land, but one day are spotted by German soldiers sightseeing in the mountains. After killing off the soldiers, they begin a commando operation, staging ambushes and traps.
  10. Re: My Ferris Bueller Writeup. BTW, I recomend looking at the HDC file if you can, I have quotes from the movie attached to the skills, perks and powers. They just don't show up with this particular template.

  12. Re: Aging kids Well I feel Stupid. I completely forgot to sell off the original point accumulation.
  13. Re: Supernatural Special Forces I think white oak is good to use on witches, pure iron for faeries. Don't forget crosses, if those do anything. If holy water does, crosses should. Every man a chaplain! Trained owels to take down bats. Werewolves should have enhanced hearing, so ultrasonic weapons made to cause debilitating pain might work.
  14. Re: Aging kids Can Do! Okay first find (10-limit) for all characteristics with a limit lower than 10: Str=10-5=5 Con=10-8=2 Bod=10-8=2 Ego=10-8=2 Pre=10-8=2 Now, Take Difference*Cost*2 (the cost of an attribute doubles when you exceed the age limit) STR:5*1*2=10 CON:2*2*2=8 BOD:2*2*2=8 EGO:2*2*2=8 PRE:2*1*2=4 Add them all up and I get . . . 38. Not 54. I got 54 because I did it in my head. And I shouldn't do things in my head.
  15. Re: Aging kids Yeah, you have to sell everything down, then buy them back. Since it's all doubled, a straight 10's character with this disadvantage would cost *tries to do math in his head* 54 points or so.
  16. Re: Burning out the Speed I wouldn't use any aid variants for the spd increase unless the bad guy plans to use this to temporarily speed up his henchmen. Powers are supposed to be things that help you. Things that hinder you are either limitations or disadvantages. I can't imagine a villian being happy his foes get more actions per turn. Happy they're burning END like napalm, yes, but not getting more chances to beat him silly. That means he shouldn't have to pay points for that part of the effect (arguments about points being for players asside).
  17. Re: Burning out the Speed I'll agree Steve. I'd build this as Drain END, with a side effect of the person being drained getting an extra phase for every, say, 10-20 END drained. I call this a side effect because it's the problem the villian encounters whenever he uses his power.
  18. Re: If Dark Champions were a movie... Not a bad graphic. It's the Punisher one, is it not?
  19. Re: Change Enviornment: Need Guidelines For A Failed Roll Well I was wrong. I really should have read the whole section. The text did specify that entering a CE-affected area could force a character to make the specified roll or suffer some kind of penalty. It doesn't however, give any guidlines for how severe the penalty might be. It also mentioned that the cost of CE might change if the penalty was too severe. I'm not sure if that implies an adder or an advantage, but I'm leaning towards an adder. maybe we could come up with a few guidlines. One thing I did notice was that anything involving Taking Damage or Altering CV should be scrutinized very closely. Come to think of it, that makes the Ice Sheet kind of odd, since falling down leaves the character prone, with all the penalties that entails.
  20. Re: Change Enviornment: Need Guidelines For A Failed Roll After reading the section myself, I think it really comes down to GM kindness for anything other than just penalties. Y'see, the example in the book is of the ice sheet defined as CE(-4 Dex), where you have to make a roll or fall down. The actual language here is "The GM rules that . . ." as opposed to "The official rules state that . . ." So, normally, this ice sheet would only matter if Ninja Bob was standing on it and tried an Acrobatic stunt. 'Twas GM mercy that made it otherwise. After all, the same page lists Dr. Terrors fear aura, which ticks off a little presence (4 pts worth) and thats only to resist his PRE attacks, as opposed to "Make a PRE roll or piddle in your pants". This is why I've never used CE in the past. It appears to do almost nothing and costs a lot of points.
  21. Re: How to: Ego Roll Wall New Thread. I'll let you do the honors. I say this because, at this stage, its mostly the same people looking at the thread. Most of the first ones looked at my question, gave an answer if they had one, and put it out of mind. They won't look at this thread again, even though the topic has changed to something more interesting. I would, however, post a link back to this thread. Meantime, I'll go through USPD and see how many CE's I can find for examples.
  22. Re: Your PC's might be underpowered if... Have you SEEN their Stare Attack? They didn't do too badly in the Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Destiny. If your team vehicle says "Tonka" on the side Your team ninja was a leftover from the "Tick" cartoon There's an Ewok somewhere wearing your last team leaders head for a hat.
  23. Re: Exotic ammo in DC? Huh. Those would be fun, provided they work as described. I'm just not sure how well I trust the website.
  24. Re: If you should need a map of a regular house And the smallest floorplans work for two bedroom apartments! Perfect for a hudson city character.
  25. Re: Synergistic Meld I know. That's how this works in The Ultimate Vehicle, where a bunch of robots can hook together Voltron style. The other characters just have a limitation to represent that they are one with the new being. I'm not sure what that limitation is, but I think its -1/4 or -1/2.
