  1. Re: Challenge Build: Unleashed Hmmm, that's not a bad idea.
  2. Re: Name This Hero enlongated, like rope, and associated with justice. Call him "The Noose".
  3. In the movie unleashed, Jet Li plays Danny, a man who is as meek and quiet as a timid child. Until his trainer takes off his metal collar. Over the years Danny has been the victim of Mental and physical conditioning, such that the removal of his collar turns him into a lethal berserking animal, killing anyone he can get his hands on. How to do this? Limited Stats and powers, all with the "Immediately goes berserk" limitation? Or maybe a multiform? If multiform, would it need to be IPE?
  4. Re: Symbiot Magic (aka worship) I did something like this once. The character was an imaginary friend with the "tinkerbell effect" (took damage from attacks with a 'I don't believe in you' effect, healed with pre attacks with the 'I believe in you' effect). I limited the healing power to max out at what the worshiper rolled on a PRE attack. That way, some characters can worship harder than others. I would also define this as their "food". If they can't find someone to worship them, they waste away. I'd imagine more powerful beings require more adoration. As for evolving into gods, that's just spending XP, with a worship effect instead of a radiation accident.
  5. I'll Start off showing the build I have so far, then Say what I'm going for. Oh, btw, this magic system is based on a character performing complicated matematical equations on a sheet of paper. It's a "realistic Level" magic style, so it's supposed to be dangerous, unpredictable, and can't give proof of it's own existence. Summon the Demon Within: Multiform to 172 point Combat Monster, Invisible to Normal Sight and Hearing +¾ (60 active); Costs END to Initiate −½, Requires a “Higher Mathematics†Roll –½, Feedback −1, Side Effect (Automatically Acquires “Berserk While in Combat†go 14- recover 8- while in form, only 1 Minute if Skill Roll Fails) −½, Personality Loss (Begins after 1 Hour) −1, Expendable IAF, Easy to Replace −½, Side Effect (2½d6 Drain Con, 5 points per Day, only on a success) −1 Description: The character spends a full hour creating the pages of equations necessary, then puts them away. When the time comes, he writes the final "=" sign to complete the spell, causing a combat loving demon to take possesion of the characters body. If his computations are successful, he will immediately go Berzerk, and will have to struggle to maintain any sort of control over the monster he called. The demon masks all pain, giving the character increased strength and speed, but this strain takes a toll on the spellcasters body (pulled muscles, bone splintering, etc), and will leave him ill for days. An unsuccessful roll means the demon still tries to take over the character, but doesn't manage to improve any skills and only stay's for a minute before getting bored and leaving. The character can only end the transformation while not Berserk. If he is possessed too long, the possesion becomes permanent, and can only be ended by other mystics. It's important to do it soon, because every day that goes by the character's body will be drained more and more until he dies. Justification: I made it IPE because the character doesn't grow horns, a forked tongue, or glowing red eyes (the magic can't give proof of its own existence). He does change countenance (he doesn't look at people the same way, or stand the same way), but I didn't know if that satisfied the visibility requirements. Feedback is the limitation from the "Duplication" power. I'm not sure if it can be applied here (which is why this thread was posted). The effect I'm going for is that the characters END, STUN, and BODY don't change. If he takes 5 body while unleashing hell in his possesed form, or if he drains his energy to the point where he almost passes out, he shouldn't be able to make his worries go away by going back to his true form. Does this work? Side Effect: Berserk is modified from Fifth edition. This is one I'm really not sure if I did right. It's mostly to reflect the struggle for control of the body while in possesed form, so it should end when the character goes back to his other form. I'm not sure that's rules legal. I was going to this with "Extra time: 1 hour" and "trigger", but that made for too many active points, so I went with "Expendible Focus" (the focus only takes an hour and some paper to replace, so it's still only worth -1/2). The other side effect is another I'm not sure of. The idea is that it drains his constitution 2 1/2 d6 every day he has it on, and will start draining body once the con is down to zero, such that his demon will keep pushing the body full throttle until it dies. Okay, this is the part where you tear me apart. Go for it, I'm ready. Oh, and I'll try to attack the Demon Form writeup
  6. Re: How Much STR Do You Need... All you need to do is make a Str roll.
  7. When do you require Resource Points to be Spent? I thought that was one of the better ideas in "Dark Champions", but I reallized it would cause some problems. Does a character have to pony up the points for a satelite phone? What about a normal Cell phone? If they were Character points and we were in a regular champions game, I'd say Yes to the first and no to the second. But resource points? that's a new animal alltogether. Just curious. The thought came to me when I tried to give my character a nice gun and a can of pepper spray and realized that, if the DC writeups for both are used, I couldn't afford it.
  8. Re: (Silliness But Interesting Dep't) Build an Alarm Clock! Waking up is an act of pure will. put the +1/2 on the aid so it aids to Ego and stun at the same time.
  9. Re: [Newbie] My first character You might add on a Change environment (everything around him is sticky), or use a damage shield clinging for the tarbaby effect. I'll also second the need for defense.
  10. Re: PREDATORS -- What Do *You* Want To See?
  11. Re: The Ultimate Mystic: Good, Bad, or what? It wasn't too bad. It was enough to get my imagination running. I'm almost done with a writeup for a mystic in a Dark Champions game who would use "Realistic Level Magic" (read the book to learn what that is ). Of course, I have no hope this character will ever see the light of gametime, but I think he's awesome anyway.
  12. Re: How much weight The Ultimate Brick had some recomeded values for boulders, but I'm on spring break and don't have that book with me. I'd say 20 Tons sounds about right, so we'll call it STR 47. Want more? http://www.mininglife.com/Miner/general/Density.htm lists densitys for a few kinds of rock. Lets say you want a Granite bouler. Now pretend that your boulder is a perfect sphere, so it's volume will be determined by (4*PI*R^3)/3. Lets say that a descent boulder has a radius of 1.5 yards. That boulder would weigh about 31 tons, requiring STR 53 to lift.
  13. Re: Land Mines I'm pretty Sure the no range would still let you scamper away. And if it's high powered, how annoying do you want these mines to be to their targets? Leathal? Just painful?
  14. Re: Eosin's "Cool Character" Contest Does "Urban Fantasy" count? I'm putting the Final Touches on a mystic that would be intended for a Dark Champions game with a little bit of "Realistic Level" magic mixed in.
  15. Re: Looking for Spidery names ... sort of. Silk: A martial artist who only has his skill when wearing his magic pajamas.
  16. Re: Human Shield There might be a few times when I'd allow the Force wall varient. The example popping to mind is the Batman/Superman where batman, whose pinned down in a grave, uses an explosive to blow his way into an underground sewer. He uses supermans unconcious body to stay between him and the blast. So, if the Viper agents throw a frag grenade, Vanirsson could throw Bulldozer on top of it.
  17. Re: "There is no pain; you are receding...." Naked power advantage: Invisble Power Effects (touch group), with Usable as attack applied to the naked advantage. I think this is against the rules, but it kind of works. This way, most blows will be completely unfelt, but really bad ones (those with too many points) still cause pain. Aid EGO, only to resist pain (Remember, one of the times ego comes in handy is when you need to resist pain to keep going.) This is a great choice for the "just something to keep me in the game" effect. The flash thing could work too.
  18. Re: My Cool Color Hudson City Map No, it doesn't. If it did, it would be creased like it was folded once, but in such a way that nobody can duplicate. "Fold it this way! No, it goes this way first. . . " That, or it would be on yellow paper, and look like it was torn out of a phone book. Oooh, that would be a cool prop even I could make! *scampers away*
  19. Re: PREDATORS -- What Do *You* Want To See? Would it be possible to make an "Ocean's Eleven" clone? a team of thieves and con artists with different specialties?
  20. Re: Custom Lim: Fasting No, the entry under extra time specifies that you can take other actions while you wait, and that if you can't take other actions while you wait the limitation is worth an additional 1/4. Kinda like throwing a burrito in the microwave.
  21. Okay, I'm reading Ultimate Mystic right now, and it made me think of a nice limitation for clerics, pacters and religous mystics in general: Fasting. Basically, fasting would require you to give up something (traditionally all food and water, but often something else) for a certain amount of time. Now, it looks like this should be a varient of Extra time. After all, if I get a -4 limitation for having to wait a day before a power activates, being forced to forgo food and water during the duration shouldn't give me any limitation smaller that -4. The question is, when should it be more? Logically, when it becomes more limiting. Going without food doesn't become a problem until 2-3 day's pass (Heck, I've done two day's. I was dizzy, but not hurting). I say extra time is worth an additional 1/4 lim if it requires you to go without food to the point it starts causing mechanic-simulated problems. One day? you haven't started taking stun or body yet, so it's worth -4. Two full day's? -4 1/4. 1 Week? -4 3/4, and so on. If the character is going without food and water, it's worth more, since he's getting it from two ends now. Since dehydration sets in at the 24 hour mark, we have 1 day becoming -4 1/4, Two day's -4 1/2, one week -5. well, I don't know many who can go a week without water, but some heroic characters might pull it off. Ghandi has a supernatural ability to induce peace in the land, built as megascale mental transform. To do it, he must go on a fast for peace for about a week. He gets a -5 limitation. There are other way's things can become limit-inducing fasts. Lets start with quirks and psych lims. For those not in the know, quirks are a gurps rule that some hero users import. basically, they're disadvantages that are so rarely limiting that they only give you 1 or 2 points. Try 'em, they're fun. Anyway, a character who must resist his own disadvantages (with lots of roleplayed weeping and gnashing of teeth) gets an automatic -1/4 slapped onto the extra time as soon as the timespan is long enough for the limitation to come into effect. Example: Kel loves orange soda. He drinks it whenever he gets a chance, and generally carries a bottle of it with him. This means he has a 1 point quirk "loves orange soda". for kel, going 6 hours without orange soda, especially if he has access to his temptation, is miserable, so he'd get a -3 3/4 Higher levels of disadvantage may allow for more extreme limitations. Example: Ariel is a 14 year old with some psychic talents. She has the ability to recieve visions of the future and past if she stay's in a dark enough room long enough (it forces her mind, out of desperation, to use talent so it can see something). However, she has Fear of the Dark, common total, the result of growing up in an abusive home. She has her clairsentience after spending 6 Hours in a no-light environment -4. Because of her disadvantage, she almost never uses this power, until her teammates, desperate to catch the serial killer before it's too late, resort to forcing her into a locked closet. (talk about a gritty Dark Champions game) Dependence is another possiblity for creating fasting conditions Example: A mystic in a victorian age game is addicted to cocaine (Dependence, must do a line at least once a day or suffer incompetence) (Uncommon, addiction) 10 character points). He buys the ability to summon a demonic spirit to his side, but this spirit loathes substance abuse. It won't come unless he has gone 1 week without, so the power has a -4 3/4 Thoughts? Comments?
  22. Re: Westender: a not-too-bad indie fantasy. I liked how the guy they cast as the bard was also the composer of the films score.
  23. Re: Firefly: The Reavers If there hadn't been oxygen and heat the lone survivor wouldn't have been nearly so well preserved. The "hours before" theory isn't too bad.
  24. I watched "Westender" Today. I liked it. Go see if your local video joint has it. It's low budget, so no massive armies of orcs and trolls. It's about a knight, who was once a great hero, and who has since become a gambling alcoholic because his fiancee was murdered. One day he wakes up to find out that he gambled away his most prized possesion, a ring worn by his fiancee. He runs off to skewer the guy's who took it. The movie centers on his journey of redemption. The good points include the location shooting. It was all done in Oregon (I didn't know oregon had desert locations to shoot in, but I've been shown wrong). The editing and cinematography really show off the beauty of the pacific northwest well. The other good point is the score, which I thought was very nice. The bad is that some of the story doesn't really make sense. But hey, it's a renter anyway.
