  1. Re: Synergistic Meld So the whole is greater than the sum of its parts? It sounds like a Multiform to me. Or maybe a multipower with two slots, one a multiform and one and aid to multiform. One guy uses his multiform slot and everyone else aids.
  2. Re: A couple of Canine questions. Awesome Video! The dog ripped the guy out of the car by his arm. I'm going to have to think about how to do that. EDIT: you must spread around some reputation before giving it to bloodstone again.
  3. Re: A couple of Canine questions. It varies from city to city, and I don't know what the deal is for the HCPD. I know that in Idaho it is a felony to shoot a police dog. That story you linked to is cool though. I was impressed that the dog kept fighting after getting shot in the head. Maybe I should get Akela some "Resistance" In other examples of dogs getting a good deal, I read about a few counties in which the dog got a pension that covered doggy bones and vet visits.
  4. Re: A couple of Canine questions. Hey, since you were a K9 cop in the military, did you ever see one of these? I was just trying to look up some equipment to give him when I found it. They're IIIA Kevlar dog vests with straps so they can be attached to parachuters (or carried around, if you feel like toting a 80-90 pound dog). Arial Insertion Vest
  5. Re: A couple of Canine questions. Here's a question for Fur Face: Do K9 dogs generally live with their partners or in a kennel? I looked up Kevlar vests for dogs. Could the dogs partner buy a vest for the dog? Because they're so expensive it doesn't seem like they'd be standard issue. EDIT: I should have looked at Wikipedia first. It says the dogs do live in handlers homes, they can get their vests from anywhere (including several charitable organizations that exist for that very purpose). It says they're trained to not kill (or even seriously injure), so I may need to get the code against killing, at least a weak version. It also mentioned the use of dogs to find dead and rotting people. apparently, they can even smell bodies under running water. I'm studying diffusion right now, so I know that's impressive I also took off the "locking Jaw" power. I knew that wolves couldn't really lock their jaws. I just liked the idea of a hold where I could be stunned, KOed, or even dead and still not let go. Oh, well.
  6. Re: Exploding Duplicates It wouldn't be a limitation. If they recombine when they get hit hard, that's a good thing, since duplicates are gone once they die. These are both just trigger.
  7. Re: A couple of Canine questions. Awesome, I didn't expect info from a real K9 cop! I'll rep you as soon as I can. Hmmm, I only used the "bad vision" disadvantage because it was in the bestiary. I actually just used the bestiary Wolf to start with. Maybe I'll think of something to replace that lim. I did improve hearing and smell, and gave the character Tracking for smell and uultrasonic for hearing, so that's covered. I haven't given the character any "detect fear" powers, but that would be pretty durn cool. Would it have to be a Telepathy power, I wonder, or could I get away with "Detect Fear" added to the Smell Group? I knew that K9 only get drugs OR bombs training, but the Knowledge skills were so cheap I got them both. hey, it is a Heroic level dog after all, he's allowed extra training.
  8. Re: How to: Ego Roll Wall The running thing makes sense. say you have the area defined as a wall 2 hexes big. It would be 13 feet wide, 6.5 feet thick, and big enough to block most doors. Now, say you walk up to the barrier. you fail your ego roll, stop and turn back. Now say you come back and try again at a full sprint (non combat speed) You try again, and once more fail the Ego roll, but even though it's forcing your mind to try to turn back, you really can't stop yourself within 6.5 feet, so you make it through. (I went with the Change Environment btw.)
  9. Re: A couple of Canine questions. "Sin City" wasn't a comic relief movie, but the act of tearing off a perps genitalia was prominently featured. That's actually where I got the idea. Besides, it was only two points in the multipower. *sigh* every body keeps pointing to using martial arts. I guess I should take another look at it.
  10. Re: A couple of Canine questions. It's +4 to all except eyesight. Did I write that down wrong? It just turned out to be cheaper to buy it for all senses at once instead of hearing and smell. Odd, eh? I figured it was okay, because that's how the bestiary did it. The running idea is I talk one of the other players into playing my partner. Otherwise I'll have to buy a follower. Granted, followers are cheap, but I personally think they're more trouble than they're worth.
  11. Re: A couple of Canine questions. I did like the takedown and hold maneuver, I just didn't want to buy 15 points worth of martial arts when only one took my fancy.
  12. I'm building a K9 unit for a Dark Champions game that I hope to get into. Anyway, I had a couple of questions. 1) I'm setting up a few "Biting" powers, one of which is a Transform, Men into Castrated Men. I'm not sure if that's a Major Transform or what. I know almost every man would consider that loss "Major", but that organ doesn't really have any game effect. Right now I have it as a 3d6 Minor Transform. Which would you set it as? 2) Another biting power is "Takedown", meant to get people prone. I went with "Dispel Running", which would definitely stop any running character, but would it put them down? If I gave it "Does Knockback" could I say the knockback is pointed straight down? 3) How do I change the hit location chart in Hero Designer? I have the Bestiary, so I have the Canine hit location chart, but I don't know How to rig it to appear in the printout. 4) Dogs aren't allowed in most public buildings unless they're service dogs. Does that apply to police dogs? If so, do I give him the perk "police powers" and at what level? If not, what level of social limitation would it be? Come to think of it, I'll just post Akela and get feedback.
  13. Re: Terrible Thoughts -- Simple Concept, Expensive Build When mentalists try to access her mind, do they have a chance to back off? "Oh man, I was just there for a second! Good thing I have nice reflexes, or I'd be raving mad, or dead" If so, it's just a special effect for bunch of mental defense, saying no mentalist can stand to stay connected. If not, yeah, damage shields are expensive. A 1 DC Tranform person into nutty person BOECV damage shield continuous for 35 points. I'd imagine it would be similar for ego attacks and mental illusions.
  14. Re: 2nd Thoughts About the Hit Location Chart STUN doesn't just represent pain. It also represents blood loss and shock to the nervous system.
  15. Re: The voice in my head Are we assuming PC's are just so heroic they aren't affected, and it just makes a bunch of loser NPC's nearby go nutty? Try Summon 10-20 nutty people, lasts 10 minutes.
  16. Re: How to: Ego Roll Wall The PRE attack idea has merit. Hero Designer hates it though, since it won't let me attach those modifiers to Pre, Only to attack. I don't even see an option to override the modifier constraints. I'd have to do it all as custom modifiers.
  17. Okay, I'm trying to make a spell to block doorways, sections of hall, and so on. The special effect is that a person who wants to walk accross the barrier has to apply a great deal of willpower, since the wall robs you of your desire to cross. I was hoping to represent that with an EGO roll, possibly with modifiers. Crossing the wall does not dissipate the wall, so everyone who crosses has to make their own roll. Each time you cross the wall, you get a positive modifier next time. Mundane Physical and Energy attacks are not affected by the wall, just sentient beings walking through, so you can shoot at things on the other side if you want. As such, you can only attack the wall with magic or mental attacks. Oh, one more thing. The wall is maintained by a spell written on a notecard pinned to something inside the wall (the wall is 4-6 inches thick). If characters figure out that the card is responsible for the effect, they can dispel the wall by either making one EGO roll to reach in and pick up the card, or using regular attacks to destroy it. I'm guessing I use Force Wall to do this, but I'm not sure how. Suggestions?
  18. Re: So, Which One Are You? Are You Sure? You may be thinking of "Dave", where the president had a stroke and was replaced by a lookalike.
  19. Re: So, Which One Are You? Are You Sure? This was mentioned in a Digital Hero Article about knacks . . . sort of anyway. They said the character looked just like somebody famouse. They built it as Reputation with a comlieness roll
  20. Re: Mystic Team Vehicle? Markings on a floor, like a pentagram or something. Everyone stands on it, it teleports to the scene. The marking just appears on the ground there. When they leave, the marking disappears. But I like the Deaths Horse idea best.
  21. Re: Shooting guns out of hands Well, a handgun is about the size of a rat or a mouse, and the bestiary gives those a -6 to hit. It also depends on how easy I want this to be. If I'm going for gritty realistic, I'd set it as -6, and say if they made it by more than 1 it wouldn't do damage to the person. If I wanted amazing stunts and saturday morning cartoon level action, I'd say a -1 would be plenty.
  22. Re: Complicate the Person Above Mutant for hire is the gnome that hides the coins you find behind the couch cushions.
  23. Re: Gravitational Tractors I think part of the problem with just attaching ion drives to the rock are 1) We'd have to spend a lot of time and money analyzing the internal structure of the asteroid. If memory serves, asteroids are covered with dust, like the moon. In order to attach anything to it, you'd have to dig down to bedrock, and 2) that's assuming the bedrock iteself is one cohesive mass, instead of a few smaller asteroids bound to each other by gravity alone. The beauty of the gravitational pull idea is that it will pull on every particle of the asteroid with the same amount of force (well, proportional to 1/r^2, but depending on how far away they are, that might not be too much of an issue.) As for using this particular toy as a mass driver . . . no. The method they're proposing would take decades of fine tuned nudging. Technically, you could use this to attack, but why on earth would you? Thered be no way to know who you'd want dead in 80 years, unless you're in a very ugly centuries old war. Even then, you'd run the risk of accidentally hitting yourself.
  24. Re: Why are robots always immortal? They said Data's brain was positronic, whatever that means, other than magic. Good point about the possiblity of eventual part replacement.
