Take the 5e Solo villains, and make a team out of them

Okay, pop quiz hot shot, you need a supervillain team, and you don't have time to make one from scratch. You do have CKC, Champions, and a couple of other 5th edition books, but the teams already in there don't suit your style. Time is running out, what do you do, what DO you do?

 

Well, over used movie commentary aside, you take some solo villains, shove them together, and make a villain team out of them. Either a temporary one, or one meant to be longer lasting.

 

SO... Taking the 5th Edition solo villains in the various books we have, who do you think would make a 'good' (if one may use the term) villain team?

I've always been partial to "theme" villains and teams, so just spontaneously:

 

TechnoPhobia: high-tech mercenary supervillains willing to work for anyone if the price is right. Mechassassin (leader), Lazer, Devastator, Armadillo and/or Ankylosaur. A variety of powers, movement abilities, and infiltration skills in addition to combat capability. Utility would bring a lot of versatility and technical expertise to this team, but the rest of the lineup is perhaps more lethal than he likes to be.

 

The Brotherhood of Terror: Monstrous, destructive entities with motivations not wholly comprehensible by human minds. Slug (leader), Leech, Morningstar and Hornet. If more power is needed, throw in the Monster.

 

The Eumenides: All-female team who present themselves as seeking to establish a benevolent world matriarchy; actually motivated by greed and power-lust. Tesseract (leader), Zephyr, Photon, and Esper. For more power and versatility, add Talisman, Howler, Riptide, Menagerie and/or Shrinker. Lots of power on this team, but generally not lethal. Several members have "alien" origins which might draw them together, and provide potential plot-hooks.

 

To make the Eumenides a credible world threat, put Gravitar in charge of the team. :eek:

A variation on Lord Liaden's tech theme:

 

Tech Support: all the high tech backup a villain or terrorist agency needs. Utility (leader), Ankylosaur, Brainchild and Cybermind. Need a good plan? Need some good old fashioned muscle? Need those agent blasters upgraded? Need an alarm shut off at just the right moment?

 

Even without Utility, the team can provide alot of good support, especially if you pool their resources. What do the heroes do when this crew starts making other villains more effective and efficient, all from behind the scenes?

The Beastiary: Armadillo, Fenris, Hornet, Menagerie and any of the villains listed under the Animal Villains subtext box on p. 146 of CKC. Not too bad individually, but put them together and they could be a threat. Add Foxbat for comedy :P

 

The Rulebreakers: Nebula and Captain Chronos. 'Nuff said.

The Underdogs- team of misfits drawn together by the desire not to get beaten up.

 

Occulon Leader add armour and tactics, ranged specialist

Esper girlfriend of leader, information and crowd control

Vibron needs the money, HTH speedster with phasing for robberys

Black diamond team brick, looking for just one ounce of respect add DRed

 

Formed by Occulon after both he and vibron were raiding the same ware house, starburst appeared as they were arguing, expecting the usual thrashing they attacked as one occulon blinding him and vibron doing a full move stike. he went down the vilain were con stuned at winning, vibron believed it was due to occulons "tactical genius" Team Underdog was formed, went on requritment drive which resulted in two women (strange ehh, 2 guys get 2 girls ). Now with the team dynamic as sexually charged as it can be the vilains are out to make a name for themselves.

That's an appropriate role for the 4th edition Oculon, but the Fifth Edition version is no underdog.

 

I do like the concept. How about Black Diamond, Boa Constrictor, Esper, Armadillo, Shrinker, and Pulsar, with Pulsar as group leader?

5the ed occulon is a 20d6 eb so im given to believe, a vilain version of Cyclops.

 

I changed occulons impants from alien to demonic, and the demon wants them back!

Made for a more horific game as demon has to steal mortal eyes so he can hunt down occulon as they wear out has to get new ones. Occulon terrified comes to the heroes for help, what do you do?

 

Occulon gets respect in my games, i just liked turning a loser into a threat by shear roleplaying, and he had a deep background/personality to boot.

 

Give em all 300pts and they are respectable, Pulsar is a overconfident jerk perfect for team leader ( oh give hin a EB not just NND )

 

Ps i personally thing Howler 4ed was one of the best pregened that they made, except for the rather silly mistake of her blowing up rocks with her NND attack ( or was that 3rd ) and she would make a good leader.

Here's an idea--Bulldozer gets his clock cleaned by an all-female hero gathering (one of those "Girls' Night Out" episodes they like to do in comics). To avoid a repeat of such an incident he forms AIM--the Alliance of Indomitable Men. Their current membership includes Armadillo, Gargantua, Thunderbolt II, Stormfront, and occasionally Devastator. (Blowtorch was originally a member, but he was kicked out after burning down their first headquarters.)

 

While they love to get together and plan grandiose schemes for major robberies or taking over the city, they're just as likely to spend their meetings drinking stolen beer, then going out to steal some more. Among their most famous exploits (it made every national news program) was the time they took over a HOOTERS restaurant to watch the Daytona 500. When the race was over they made a break for it, with Bulldozer following Armadillo through his tunnel.

 

The formation of AIM has surprised everyone in law enforcement familiar with Bulldozer--many believed that not only did he lack the necessary charisma or leadership skills, but that he was incapable of pronouncing--let alone defining, or even spelling--the word Indomitable.

It's simple: he challenges them to a drinking contest. ;)

... 5th Edition Oculon? WHERE??!!

 

In VIPER -- I would provide a page reference, but it's at home and I'm posting from work. He's one of the senior members of Dragon Branch, VIPER's supervillain branch. (Can't really call them a team when they normally work alone for whichever Nest convinces the Council Of Thirty they need supervillain backup.)

Funny thing is...

 

Well it was 4th ed...

But I took Ogre, Armadillo, Cheshire Cat, Mindlock, Howler, and Bluejay.

They were foes of the Champions who tired of the individual beatings.

Called themselves ...the Challengers. :)

 

...I used this EXACT team, sans Bluejay, in a one-shot scenario based (loosely) on the film "Die Hard" :)

Here's my dream villain team:

 

 

Firewing (the leader), Tesseract (the transport), Grond (the muscle) and Mentalla (to keep Grond in line).

 

Small yet scary group.
