Package Deals exceeding Characteristic Maxima
Okay, this is probably an erratum rather than a clarification, but here goes. In Star Hero, the Package Deals for large extraterrestrial species (pages 31-32) all charge the regular 1:1 point cost for all STR, though even the first one would send the average character above Normal Characteristic Maxima. I can come up with three possible explanations for this: 1) There was an error, and the double cost for Characteristic Maxima should have been figured in (+15 STR for 20 points, +30 STR for 50 points, and so forth); 2) Characteristic Maxima aren't supposed to apply to Characteristics bought as part of a Package Deal (though an answer in the FAQ would seem to contrad…

Side Effects
Steve, Can you take a -1 extreme side effect on a power below 60 Active points? and What is the active points of the side effect? Is it 60 or the active points of the power? The Empathic Healing Spell in the side bar does not meet the (whichever is greater) stipulation of the limitation value box. Thanks

Growth and Missile Deflection
Missile Deflection normally only applies to missiles entering the hex that the deflector is in (unless the "at range" advantage is purchased). What if the person with Missile Deflection also has several levels of growth? In other words, if he now covers several hexes all by himself, can he deflect only one of the hexes of his person (and if so, which one?) or is the missile deflection scaled up to cover the number of hexes that the growth-affected person now fills? If the growth-affected person buy's the "one hex range" version of the "at range" advantage (for his missile deflection), does the missile deflection still only extend to a one hex radius (like…

Continuous Followup From Succor Question
I actually have two questions based on his question. 1:Would a character with TK be able to use Full STR TK on multiple targets by starting it in multiple phases? 2: And I am personally curious about Entangle when I entangle some one do I pay end every phase or only in the initial phase as I would with a mental power. I have always been a little curious about this and have been running it like a mental power but would like to know the correct way.

Missile deflection followup
Can you define what a "missile" is? This has important ramifications when it comes to missile deflection/reflection (see below). Please comment on the following... Part 1... If person "a" throws a rock at person "b", the rock is presumably considered to be a "missile" and can be deflected via missile deflection. If person "a" punches person "b", person "a"'s fist is presumably considered to not be a "missile" and therefore cannot be deflected via missile deflection. Now for some less obvious examples. If person "a" flys/glides/falls into person "b", that is presumably considered a "move through" and therefore cannot be missile deflected. Is th…

Missile deflection
In a previous posting, someone asked if a person, thrown at another person, can be missile deflected by the intended target. The answer was yes (as long as it wasn't something like a "fastball" manuver). What about any of the following scenarios (let me know if I should have broken this up into separate postings)... Person "a" is floating in the air as person "b" jumps from some position above person "a" with the intent of attacking person "a". What if person "b" (the missile) is *falling* towards person "a" (the target) - and person "b" is doing so consciously in order to do a "move through". Can person "a" still missile deflect person "b"? What if …

Question about Succor
Greetings, I was wondering about something. If a character uses his Succor power to aid a power, can he, on his next action, Succor a second power of a second character? Is this true for other continuous powers? For example, if a character has a Continuous RKA, can he effect two seperate targets on consecutive phases (paying twice the normal END of course?) Thanks, Mark

No Range Modifier vs LOS Followup Followup
I think it's becoming clearer. LOS power cannot be used, for example, to attack targets which are invisible to the attacker's targetting sense(s) even if a non-targeting sense role is made. In essence the attacker must be able to "lock on" to the target with a targeting sense. Is my interpretation correct?

No Range Modifier vs LOS Followup
Still not sure what is intended. The LOS rules refered to on 5E pge 78 provide rules for attacking targets of which you are not precicely sure of the location. I don't see that as being any different or disadvantageous over any other attack power. Is there something about the LOS advantage that is different than described on 5E pge 78. Thanks again.

Attack From Behind/Multiple Attacker Penalty 2
I just wanted to be sure I understood this fully. Using my earlier example: Attackers A, B, and C attack Target D (DCV 6). A attacks from the front while B and C attack from behind but only C actually stealths up to attack D (so only C gets the "from behind" benefit). All three make their Teamwork rolls. Multiple Attacker penalty, -2 DCV. Based on this, D has a DCV 4 vs. A and B and a DCV of 2 (6 - 2, halved because of the "from behind" penalty) vs. C. The "from behind" penalty would only apply for the first attack because after that, D knows about C (at which point, only the -2 Multiple Attacker penalty applies). Thanks!

TK/STR Follow-up
Can Telekinesis and STR be combined for the purpose of lifting? And if so would TK lower the weight of the object in regards to inches of Flight required to move? Thanks in advance:)

Inherent
What are the Powers that should be made Inherent? Reading the Hero Bestiary it seems that only Extra Arms is a must. Life support isn't, armor isn't, Damage Resistance/Reduction isn't. Even claws aren't. So, is there a rule? Can you tell me why an extra arm shouldn't be dispellable but an extra pair of wings should be? Thanks Max

No Range modifier vs Line of Site
Been scanning through the FAQ and Erratta and I still do not fully understand the modifiers and the real difference between them. As best I can tell the Line of Site advantage includes the advantage No Range Modifier as well as having no true maximum range (limited only be the ability to perceive the target and no objects blocking LOS) The part that confuses me is that one is better than the other but both have the same advantage value. Did I miss something? Thanks.

Damage Shield Questions: HKA or RKA?
Howdy. I'm trying to design a character with a Damage Shield (he secretes corrosive chemicals), but I'm uncertain how to go about building it correctly. Published examples of similar powers seem to be somewhat contradictory. In Hero Bestiary, the Giant Space Amoeba's shield is built as: HKA, Continuous, Damage Shield, Penetrating, 0 END Persistent, Always On, No STR Bonus In the UNTIL SD, however, the example under Acid Powers shows: RKA, Continuous, Damage Shield, Penetrating, Personal Immunity My questions are... 1) Why is HKA--No STR used in one example, and RKA used in another? 2) Why is Personal Immunity used in the second example, and no…

Telekinesis & Strength
I am under the impression that Telekinesis and strength can be added together when TK is used at touch but I can't find where it says that. Can you confirm please? Example: Gravitar and Grond are arm wrestling. Grond will use his Str of 90 while Gravitar will be able to use her Str of 40 and add her TK of 60 for a total of 100.

Attack From Behind/Multiple Attacker Penalty
Apologies right up front if this is a redundant or totally stupid question (well, two questions). The rules penalize someone being attacked from behind with 1/2 DCV. QUESTION: Is this merely a matter of position or one of awareness? (IOW, if the attacker is just a regular Joe and simply steps behind the defender as his half move, does he automatically trigger the penalty or does it require someone to actually manage to sneak up behind someone else in combat and attack the target unawares?) The rules state that a multiple attacker penalty can be triggered by two or more people coordinating an attack on a defender. QUESTION: How does this interact with …

Follow up on STR and HA
Assume 20 str with a 4d6 HA reduced end (no end) and maybe some Marial Arts with DCs. How much endurance does this attack cost? 2 end (just pay for str) or 0 end (whole attack is free)? Also. Does str affect AVLD or NND Hand attacks? Seems overpowered.

Negative Body Maximum?
If a character hits twice his Body characteristic, he's dead. Is that the cap? Can he take more Body? The reason I ask is for purposes of adjudicating Healing with the Resurrection option. Some characters, knowing about an antagonist's Resurrection ability, might try to delay by hacking him into smaller bits. Gruesome, but it happens. Here's a scenario: EvilGuy has 10 Body, and Regeneration with Resurrection. He gets hacked down to 1 Body. And then he 12 Body damage. Is he now at -11 Body, or does the Body damage cap at death? Thanks! --->M@ss

Alien Minds...
Hello Steve, I'm about to start a Champions campaign, and one of the team members is goig to be a mentalist, so I want to be ready for some future questions: 1) Would Ironclad be classified as having an "Alien" minds for mental power effects? 2) Do you need to specify what class of mind you can affect with an Ego Attack?

Triggers
How long does it take to set a trigger. I am wondering because I looked in the book and it mentions that a power with a trigger needs to be reset whenever the trigger goes off, but aside from an example that uses extra time, it doesn't mention how long it takes to set up a trigger. I can see three alternatives. Activating a power is a Zero Phase action, so setting a trigger could be done as easily as saying its set when you can next do a zero phase action. The second way I could see it is simply taking a half phase to set the trigger. The third way I could see it is taking how long it takes to use the power. For example if you have a movement power set on a trigger,…

Using mental powers on yourself
I didn't see anything in the FAQ on this, but I might have missed it. 1) Can you use a mental power on yourself? 2) If you can use Telepathy on yourself, could you use it to recall memories that have been blocked or suppressed into the subconscious, like being under Mind Control or a Mental Illusion? Could you use Mind Control on yourself to reveal such things? Would you need to roll a higher effect number than the Mind Control that blocked the memory rolled? 3) If you have a psychic surgery type of Transform power, could you use it to rewrite your own memories?

END Reserve
(Don't know if this goes here or the HD forum .. apologies if it's in the wrong place) Ok .. I've read the faq and I just wanted to be sure of something. It says that the END and the Rec of the reserve are counted as "one" power when it comes to calculating costs. So correct me if I'm wrong .. but when you build the power in HD, you typically should put the same limitations on the REC as you have on the END, right? Or is this double dipping?
