Double Focus for 5 points
It's not a rule for powers, it's a rule for gadgets and weapons, and the Seishinken certainly qualifies as a weapon. The rule is on 5E 309. __________________ Steve Long HERO System Line Developer So. If a power (or set of powers) is bought as a focus (weapon) Then if the character has an exact duplicate of the weapon he can spend 5 points for a second one? A Blaster gauntlet MP for say 50 points (base and slots) then 5 points for a second gauntlet with the same everythinh? Or can it have a different SFX?

A gadget that costs END?
Hey Steve, I was just looking at some of the examples of ARGENT technology that were provided in Champions Universe and was wondering something: Should the Gravitic Repulsor (CU p.140) cost END for its passengers? I was just wondering if that was a mistake. Thanks again for all the hard work!

Growth and Growth Momentum Followup
The FAQ states that you can use the combination of Shrinking and Growth Momentum on targets that are larger than man-size. They don't state if you can use it on man sized. Just wanted to see what was the 'upper limit' line - the height of the target or the amount a character can grow.

Growth and Growth Momentum
Am I correct in assuming that the amount of strength that you get from your Growth Momentum stops upon reaching the target height? Example: Redwood has a 40 pt Multipower and both Shrinking and Growth in it. He gets under a normal human sized target while using 40 pts of Shrinking and then switches his multipower to 40 points of Growth. The character only gets the +8d6 from growing to normal height, when he contacts the target's jaw, and not the additional +4d6 and strength bonus from the Growth as well. Also A character with 40 points of Growth is 3.5 hexes tall and 2 hexes wide. Can he perform a 'belly flop' to do an area effect attack and, if so,…

Question about Shugoshin's Powers
I don't know where else to post this... In Shugoshin's writeup in Champions Universe, Shugoshin is listed as having a second Seishinken for a straight 5 pts. I have looked everywhere for this rule that you can have a second exact copy of a power for a straight 5 pts (such as a second gun, or in this case a second sword--this would be to take advantage of the Multiple Power Attack rules). I have seen other official characters written up with this... although I can't think of any other off the top of my head. Where is this rule found?

Movement Skill Levels and Vehicle control rolls...
Hey Steve, whats shakin? I checked out the FAQ (boy, that took a while!) and I couldn't find a referrence to this anywhere. This is in referrence to a rule in TUV, so you probably haven't gotten around to it yet (or I'm the first to ask). It mentions in TUV that Movement Skill Levels bought with a vehicle (either by the vehicle itself, or by the character for use with a vehicle) can be added to Piloting/Driving control rolls, then it says See the Sidebar, however, that particular option isn't listed anywhere in the Sidebar on MSL's, nor is it mentioned anywhere else in the book, and FREd doesn't cover this particular subject (MSL's as applied to vehicular opera…

The line between Speed Reading and Rapid Sense
Backstory: I'm developing a background character for my campaign (I am the GM and the world designer). The special effect is that he's a normal who "knows as much as a mortal mind can hold". The game effect is that he has the powers necessary for *acquiring* the knowledge he needs, when he needs it. I'd like to confirm something before I make the character too cheaply. Seems to me that one of the things the character is going to need is the Rapid Sense modifier, applied to several senses, to allow him to acquire the knowledge so quickly that for practical purposes he "already knew it". The trick kicks in on Speed Reading. It occurs to me that under 5th Editi…

You can never have too many ninjas.
My ninja would like to be able to create a phantom image of himself, to confuse and distract the enemy in combat. At first this looks like an Image power, but Images cannot be moved from their creation hex unless bought with a sufficiently large AE. (At least, that is how I interpreted the Image section of the FAQ?) It also takes time and effort to manipulate the Image in any complex fashion; I want the image to just keep acting on its own to create confusion and distraction. Should this power be bought as Duplication, but with a strong "Phantom" limitation, perhaps worth as much as -1? The duplicate is effectively just an image, unable to inflict damage, and…

MARS Flash Grenade question
Hey Steve, Just wanted to know: why was the MARS "Screaming Mimi" Incapacitor Grenade (MC p.61) built with a Flash to Hearing Group linked to a Flash to Sight Group instead of using the +5 point adder that allows to Flash an extra Non-Targeting Sense Group? Was it just so that to allow for the fact that one could recover hearing before sight (or vice versa)? As an aside, does a fragmentation grenade do Physical damage or Energy damage? I was looking at the VIPER frag grenade (CU p.146 sidebar), and it doesn't say. I always found that grenades a bit ambiguous (apart from the fact that they HURT! )

Noncombat Questions
Hey Steve. After checking the book I have a few questions about the Noncombat movement powers. Leap: When making a multiple phase noncombat leap do you pay the end cost once or every phase during the leap? Its not like there is anything for you to do in a mid-noncom Leap except hang there and wait to land, hopfully where you want to be. When using a multiple phase noncom leap what phase/segment do you land? Teleportation: It says no matter how many noncombat multiples a character has it take one extra phase. What is the character’s location while this noncombat teleport takes place? Do you disappear at the start of the teleporting phas…

Intervals between non-BODY Healing
The FAQ suggests 24 hours as a guideline for the minimum time interval between effective re-application of Healing. If that's based on the normal rate of recovering BODY, would an appropriate minimum time interval for END or STUN Healing be any shorter? Normally, they recover every turn.

Desolid Clinging
Steve, a player of mine wanted to simulate an Anime character (Ms. Deep from "Read or Die") that clearly sticks to walls and surfaces while desolid. I first simulated this with a limited Flight linked to Desolid, but that seemed a bit odd. Then I tried Clinging with ARW, but then wondered why I need the ARW if all the character is doing is swinging through walls and using floors/cielings like gymnastics poles? What do I do? Thanks

Speedsters and Scooters
According to TUV, vehicles like scooters and skateboards are generally built with 12" of running (twice "normal" running). If a speedster with 40" of running was to use a scooter with 12" of running, I assume that he can only use 12" of his running while riding due to the restraints of the construction of the scooter. Is there a rule somewhere that allows the character to exceed the 12" in order to ride the scooter at a full 40" or is it just not possible? Thank you.

Terran Empire: Sensor Packages
Hi. I'm looking for a bit of mechanics clarification about the Sensor Packages. 1 - Does everything in the sensor packages (the VPP, the MegaScale and the Radio Range PSL) apply when firing your ships weapons? I guess the real question is do the ship systems use the Radio sense to attack? 2 - When switching the VPP in combat, does it require a Power Skill roll as stated in FREd 209? If so, who rolls it, the ship or the sensor operator? Is it acceptable to simply require a SysOps roll from the operator? Thank you for your time.

Scope of Naked Power Advantages
I'm having a hard time figuring out naked power advantages with the number of examples I currently have availible. I tried searching the FAQ's but I still don't think I'm getting it. How large a class of powers can these apply to? In 5'th edition the example of applying autofire to any type of gun is given. Does this mean a naked power advantage can only apply to one type of power or does it just need to have a special effect that's acceptable to the GM? The reason I ask is that I want to include a device in a Star Hero game that will add megascaling to teleportation and another that will add megascaling to any psi power. I'm trying to figure out if one of t…

How to simulate zero gravity as a power
This one is puzzling some of us on the boards. This isn't controlling anybody's movement. It is changing their environment but how do you quantify it the change and how do you express the conditions of a zero gravity effect?

Breaking Entangles
Hey Steve, Just was wondering, can a character «Haymaker» there breakout roll to get out of Entangle? If yes, if the charcter is moved for some reason or other, can he still finish his maneuver? (His target hasn't really change position in relation to himself) What about to break out of a Grab? Though I see that one not working too well, since it would be easy for the «Grabber» to stop the haymaker. Keep up the good work!

Muliple-Power Attack Question
The multiple-power attack rules on page 234 state that "characters should not combine Ranged and non-Ranged Powers into a multiple-Power attack (unless the GM permits this)". Why is this and what might be some exceptions to this rule? I want to combine a Strike Maneuver with an Energy Blast that is normally discharged from the character's hands. Essentially, it would entail punching an opponent while simultaneously discharging the EB. Since the EB is not being used at range, would this be an allowable multiple-power attack? Thanks! ~T
